The western animated films need films like this one. It's silly that animation immediately makes people think "for kids". Maybe the growing Japanese anime scene will help change this slowly over time but we also need our own.
Oh my god you had the same taste as me as a kid (well I was more of a tween then) even so, I would obsess over all the alien and predator films so much and I remember obsessing over this film too, I remember drawing The Machine in fucking kidpix on my mum’s old computer I liked the monsters and machine so much.
So glad you've decided to watch this movie! This movie absolutely terrified me as a kid, more so than Caroline ever did. They don't shy away from some of the visuals like live-action movies would, even though it is animated. A true lesson on animated doesn't = kid friendly 😂
Yes! This movie didn't pull its punches at all, and honestly I would love to see more "adult" animations like this one... just don't let the kids watch unsupervised haha
I saw this when I was a kid and always loved it lmao can't believed there was so many kids scared... and now this movie is kinda forgotten because of that :/
Tim Burton didn’t direct it, but he took an active role as producer. Shane Acker was the writer and director of it (based on his original short film of the same title), but after 9 flopped he took a break from creating original projects and focused on working in the visual effects department. HOWEVER! Good news, he recently created a new short film called Crusoe, which even won an award in the Berlin Short Film Festival! I really hope he gets another chance in Hollywood because with creativity like this, he should be something special. He has his own website which features a bunch of concept art for other projects so hopefully they manage to be conceptualised because they look equally unique as 9 is.
Well I'm glad Burton was investing/ supporting a movie with as much originality as this one! And I'm gonna look up Shane Acker's website now, I really admired the visual style here and I'd love to see him make more movies... thanks for sharing this!
One’s redemption still has got to be one of my favorite redemptions in media. I know it might seem out of nowhere but I really do think that it represented his change pretty well. Plus the “sometimes one shall be sacrificed” was such a poetic way to lead up to his sacrifice
One is an interesting character because ultimately he was never malicious even when he seemed like an utter bastard. He was the first of them, left forsaken in a dead world filled with horrible things that wanted to hunt him and the others down and kill them and it ended up falling to him to keep them all safe. It's kind of understandable that he would take the stance of wanting to hide away and be against any risk taking or attempts to investigate things that in his mind were evil mistakes that led to all the horror they were facing and would only cause more danger. He's almost trying to be an overprotective and stern father to the group but messed up by trauma and paranoia of the machines that leaves him brutally cynical and hopeless. And for all that his saying one must be sacrificed for the many can seem like cruel excuses for saving his own skin he ends up proving that he always held himself to that standard too.
I saw this film when it came out and found it both fascinating and disturbing in equal measure, but I love the character design of these little people so much ... I felt compelled to watch . I later found out it is based on short film of the same name (9) by Shane Acker ...Tim Burton saw this short and made the feature-length adaptation.
If you think about it..... the machine was also part of the scientists soul. He mentioned that it was born from his intellect and that it wasn't enough. That's probably why it tried to absorb the other dolls, because it tried to complete the soul it originated from, possibly in order to restore its' creator. We get to see the scientist being taken away by some people who obviously want to use the machine for war, meaning even the machine didn't necessarily start out as something evil but rather as something that had the potential for both, good and evil and was just pushed in the wrong direction. It's really an interesting and surprisingly deep movie. To think I learned about its' existence because I stumbled upon the DVD, which was ridiculoulsy cheap, and just thought the cover looked kinda erie. I never even heard about it being released in theaters before I looked it up after watching it.
That is one of the major theories surrounding the film! As a fellow fan who likes to deep-dive lore, I can confirm that this theory has been tossed around quite a bit. One of my personal favorites to be honest.
Americans don't appreciate adult animation as much as they do in other countries/cultures. Examining the creatures as aspects of the inventor's soul can be interesting, but I wouldn't define any of them, including 1, as 'evil'. 1 was the self-assigned authority. He organized and led the others. He's conservative in nature: conserve life, conserve resources, follow rules/commandments, don't gamble or take chances, demand to be obeyed. He's ruled by fear; his responsibility weighs on him. And he'd been successful, until 9 showed up. He wasn't 'evil' or bad, just trying to follow a heavier mandate.
That's interesting, I didn't realize it was a cultural thing (and I'm glad people are more open to adult animations in other parts of the world!). For Number 1, the thing that made me look at him as more than just cautious/ conservative was sending Number 2 out purposely to perish... but it made his redemption at the end more unexpected and satisfying
@@nickreacts6394 I interpreted it more as 1 sending out 2 on a mission, not as a means to get him killed. 2 had already lost an eye, had other patches performed; it looked like 2 was inherently the explorer, so 1's eyes on the surrounding area. You can't stifle an individual's core nature, only guide it. But your interpretation is just as likely.
@@chris...9497 I think it’s more so that at that point, 2 had become much more Of a liability to the group at large in 1’s eyes. He was weak, not particularly agile and didn’t follow orders very well so in 1’s eyes getting rid of him would increase the group’s safety overall
I'm a scientist, thanks for point out that the fault does not come from Science but the nature of the human beings. You've earned my subscription! Greetings from Mexico.
This was my sister and I’s favorite movie growing up. She would beg me to watch this with her about every week to the point where we would have most of the lines memorized and say them with the movie. It’s weird that a lot of people didn’t know this movie existed because it was such a big part of our childhood. I’m so happy you reacted to this!
THis movie gives me massive nostalgia now, but I remember not wanting to watch it more than twice when I was a kid because the soul sucking was just so damn scary for me. Both this and Coraline where two movies that I kinda can't believe my parents let 9 yo me watch,, but it really does have a fondness in my heart. I think it's very much someone's passion project and you can tell!
I actually had a theory on the dolls 1 is pride 2 is compassion 3/4 curiosity and memory 5 is cowardice 6 is insanity 7 is independence 8 is strength 9 is courage
I liked 9, and the dedication of the Facebook page for the movie viewers to piece together the mystery on this movie. You can tell that this is indeed a thought out idea
(wipes away tears) As someone who loved this movie months before it came out, and joined the earliest fan forum for it-- thank you for being so gentle and sweet with this film. Your willingness to get invested made me smile like crazy! Also, so crazy to see comments all the time from people who watched this as children! I was already an adult when it came out, and the perspective of these old fans of the film is fascinating
9 is the Oppenheimer of kids movies in my opinion, considering it was dropped on 9/09/2009, also the heavy topics that were included in it like war and genocide makes it a masterpiece. It was also my childhood.
This is such a fantastic sleeper movie! The care and effort put into it creates utter perfection. I wish this kind of attention was into more animated project!
Haven't even watched this yet and I am SO excited you did this!! I feel like most people entirely overlook this movie. It's so clever and kinda creepy. I always loved this one. Hoping you like it...now let's watch!
Okay I loved this. It has a unique style, you're correct. I had to laugh at the beginning when you mentioned the one ring and called him Frodo because it actually is the voice of Elijah Woods lol I had a good time watching this reaction 🙂
@@nickreacts6394 The actor's name is not Elijah Woods, it's Elijah Wood, just with no s in Wood, still close! I too, love Elijah Wood and his voice acting of 9. Never seen the movie, but I did see the short film of 9, which is phenomenal! I even have a computer background with a 9 poster! Arguably one of my favorite short films I saw! The film came out 4 years before the feature film was released, which the short came out in 2005. Again, never saw the movie, but you can't tell me how much I love Tim Burton! Favorite director/producer! Elijah Wood also done the voice of Wirt from Over the Garden Wall. He also voice acted Mumble from the Happy Feet franchise. Which I recommend you watching. Oscar winner, Happy Feet, has amazing visuals, music, story, and characters. The film is directed by George Miller, the same guy who directed the Mad Max movies. We even get some popular actors, Elijah Wood, obviously, including Robin Williams, Brittany Murphy, Nicole Kidman, Hugh Jackman, Hugo Weaving, and surprisingly, Steve Irwin! Happy Feet Two, which I never saw, sadly replaced Brittany Murphy with Pink. I hope you can watch the franchise soon enough, they're really good! Edit: Congratulations if you read my full two paragraphs, here is a croissant for reading it 🥐
So glad you've gone for this niche treasure. 9 is an amazing movie, filled with a lot of heart and jump scare creepyness. Loved it. Love the reaction, as often happens, if I hadn't already subscribed, this would've got you my sub.
This has remained one of my favourites since it came out. So creepy. So dark. So entertaining. It is wonderful to see someone react to it! Just starting the video. Hope you liked it.
I particularly enjoy all the little details of their tools and inventions, and I liked trying to figure out what they were. 5's crossbow was made from a wind-up key and two springs, fired sewing needles, and a grapnel made of fishing hooks. The components of 7's spear were harder to identify, but I think that its shaft is actually a minute hand from a grandfather clock.
YESSSS! I’m so glad you liked it! I was so excited for this reaction and it did NOT disappoint :) This movie actually came out the same year as Coraline and was severely overshadowed for many reasons, then got left in the dust. Coraline was a similar type of movie where it has a supposedly child-friendly adventure that actually turns out to be really scary for younger audiences, so I’m assuming the stop-motion animation is what hid this movie and brought Coraline more fame. That’s what I understood anyway
The history on how this movie came to be is incredibly interesting it started out as a college students animation project that he created on his own and it was started out with no voice acting at all and Tim Burton caught wind of it and helped him make it into a full-length film
I know I'm 2 weeks late, and someone else might have already posted this, but the posters/promotional material all had quotes related to the characters they showed that I think help with understanding them a bit better. Or at least they helped me: 1 to protect us, 2 to inspire us, 3 to define us and 4 to teach us, 5 to guide us, 6 to lead us, 7 to defend us, 8 to guard us, And 9 to save us.
I'm so glad you were able to enjoy not just the movie but the characters! I think most people associate each character with different aspects of the scientists personality, and 1 always seems to be associated with Fear and Survival. You can be capable of a lot of bad things when you're afraid and trying to survive. His character arc truly was wonderful and I love this movie more than I probably should lol
I love this movie. I sometimes forget it exists because no one talks about it, but I found the concept so interesting and intriguing as a teen when I watched it first and used to watch it often
Great reaction! I really wish this movie got more recognition, it's such a fantastic film! I watched it when I was 12 and my younger sister was 10, we were extremely interested in it since we saw the trailer from Coraline, which we loved too. And when we finally got to see this movie it was the greatest thing ever to us. Happy to know you enjoyed it!
I don't remember just how much, but Tim Burton was definitely involved in this movie, he was also a major inspiration for the character 6 (as you can tell by the stripes, hair, crazy look and his drawings) The movie is actually based on a short film Shane Acker made that pretty much only had 9, 5, the Cat Beast and no dialogue, it shows just how much of the creativity was already there from that start I love this movie a lot, it's super nostalgic to me even though I didn't watch it until years after it came out, actually met my best friend because we were both making fanart of it, there was once a time where I was SO drawn into it that I just had it run on loop all day long while drawing fanart X'D
That's so neat Burton is the visual inspiration for a character! And I just watched the original short film by Acker, it's so good! Perfect little story with no talking necessary, and I'm so happy how much of the aesthetic is almost exactly the same in the feature film, way to stay true to the creator's vision!
The steampunk-esque style you're referring too is called diesel-punk. Usually the design comes from the very end of the industrial revolution into the early/mid 20th century. It's my personal favorite aesthetic of all time!
This was actually one of my favorite movies as a kid. I just loved the whole post apocalyptic feel to the movie and how the 9 characters are fragments of a man's soul who lived a life of regret after creating this innovative machine. One of my favorite amalgamations that the robot created was the seamstress snake creature, the creativity into creating this haunting thing is amazing. And when I mean I watched this as a kid, I wasn't joking. I was into paranormal activity and all that jazz growing up, so this movie was my jam.
I didn't see this movie until I was an adult in my 40's, and absolutely fell in love with the story and characters. I'm so glad you did a reaction that gives the run time justice.
Love that you found 1 to be your favorite on a single watch alone, because on rewatch you can notice all these little nuances about him that show that even in the beginning he's not purely coldblooded. The faces he pulls when crossing 2's number out or seeing his body or at the funerary scene, he's NOT actually all that comfortable with what he's done, but only when he sees the real consequences of his actions, otherwise he lies to himself about it being the right choice. And i think a lot of who he is stems not only from whatever traits he got from the scientist, but also the fact that he was born alone (2 canonically wasn't around until about a week later). Because what does that kind of experience do to a person, awakening all by yourself while a war is raging. It's really no wonder he's so fearful of change or losing what little control he has. He's been in survival mode since day one and it DOES make him a callous jackass with a power complex, but his final speech there really puts it into perspective. They all got dealt a shit hand. Definitely makes for the most complex character of the movie, and he's rightfully a fan favorite.
Hello, Avid Animation Fan here! So, 9 is PRODUCED by Tim Burton, but there’s a funny story as to how it came to be! Shane Acker the director made a short film called 9 I believe either as a student film or as a personal film, and Tim Burton saw it and took interest! So he funded Acker, so he could make this whole movie! So I’m sure most of the designs could be from the original short film, which is pretty similar in story, look, setting, tone… kinda everything, it’s super duper similar. It’s a pretty interesting origin story for 9, and you can see why Burton took interest in it (although I personally would say that Burton’s films are way more whimsical, so it doesn’t personally give off a Burton vibe, but I was totally not surprised that he produced it.)
This movie didn't have much promotion. I remember seeing a 30 ad on TV but that was it. We had no idea what this film was about. But I'm a huge animation fan and went to see this in the theatre. I don't know what I was expecting but this blew me away. It has a great story and these little sack cloth guys are so relatable. I loved how dark this post-apocalyptic world was developed and animated. The world they built and the wonderful animation great to watch. This is still one of my favourite animated film. If you like Tim Burton you might like "Ed Wood". It's about the Hollywood director, Ed Wood. He directed what is still considered the "worse movie ever" called "Plan 9 From Outer Space". Burton has a unique sense of humour.
I remember watching this movie in theaters during my birthday party. The entire thing frightened me and still does at times. Shane Acker did a brilliant job at creating this. I believe it was one of the first 3D animated movies to be rated PG-13. Of course, I could be wrong about that last part.
I loved this movie, it’s super creative, artistic, and has a super serious story to it. The characters were great as well but unfortunately yeah this movie didn’t do so well in the box office, so it’s safe to say “9” is an underrated gem. Also fun fact: the movie came out in 9/9/09 XD
few people know In Russia, by decision of producer Bekmambetov, an adapted version of the cartoon was released, with the plot slightly modified due to rewritten dialogues and added voice-over monologues. The texts for the Russian-language version of the film were compiled by Dmitry Glukhovsky translated from Russian Wikipedia: 1 - The First contains memories of the Chancellor, who took the Machine from the Scientist before completing its animation and used it for bad purposes. 2 - is the Scientist’s assistant and faithful companion, who has worked under his leadership for decades. 3&4 - they contain memories of the professor’s twin sons, first-graders, as the Ninth himself claims 5 - is a doctor who cured the Scientist from a terrible disease and until the last treated wounded soldiers during the war with the machines. He once said that he “never studied this, but his hands do everything themselves,” which Nine later repeats. 6 - it contains memories of the unfortunate engineer who turned on the machine and became its first victim. 7 - this little man contains memories of the professor’s wife, fearless and at the same time caring. 8 - this little man was imbued with memories of the Chancellor's bodyguard, who remained devoted to the Chancellor until the end of his days. 9 - the entire soul of the Scientist was infused without a trace and his own memories. At the beginning of the cartoon, Nine knows nothing about himself and the world around him and cannot speak, but he gets out of the house in search of the living. Soon he meets the Second Man, who helps the Ninth find his voice with the help of a speaker part. The second keeps repeating that the Ninth has finally come to save everyone, but does not have time to explain anything - the Beast attacks the little men The scientist is the creator of the Machine. He was too late, when the Chancellor’s soldiers removed the Scientist from his work, realized his disastrous mistake for all humanity and, with the help of the artifact he created, transferred his soul into the rag dolls he created. Nine sees his mummified corpse in the semi-laboratory. In ordinary Glukhovsky, the Scientist, passionate about alchemy, did not create the source material, but only used it to transmigrate his soul into the body of the Ninth. The Assembly Machine is a huge robot with many flares, the main antagonist of the cartoon. It is actually a medium sized ball with two small arms. But after the Chancellor placed her in the building, she began to monitor other people’s souls and build killer robots. The scientist managed to snatch the document from the car because she remembered it and let it come to her. Nine later uses the documents and removes the Administrative Soul, destroying the artificial intelligence.
Your excitement in the beginning made me sub immediately and then proceed to watch the rest of the video with a ear to ear smile on my face, I may only be 17 but this movie was one of my favorites when I was younger. It definitely still is now too.
Loved this movie, it is unfortunate it is so little known. Absolutely excellent on every level. If you liked the visual style, a great live action film that is a must see... check out The City Of Lost Children (1995). An amazing film with an excellent performance from Ron Perlman, whose character is ironically named 'One'
9 is a masterpiece. There's nothing quite like it. It's been my favorite animated movie since I saw it in theatres back in 2009. It grossed 48.4 million USD. Tim Burton was one of the producers.
Even tho the movie doesn’t explicitly tell you it is said that the machine goes bad because it starts to go into a stressed state by making so many machines in mass production!
My favourite character is 9. I just love how he is always looking out for others and inventing genius stuff, as well as his noble side and brave personality, because it is almost like a motherly role that you don't see very often in male protagonists. I just think this whole movie feels so fresh I love it ❤
This movie is also shown how humanity cared more but themselves and greed. So it's always fascinating to see how something's so small, are willing and doing to restore what was done by both machine and humanity.
So awesome to see a reaction to this movie. It’s definitely one of a kind. As a numerology buff it’s also interesting to note which characters seem closest to their traditional symbolism - 9(humanitarian, compassion) and 1(leadership, independence). Don’t know if they’d get any views but I’d say The Secret of NIMH and MirrorMask would qualify as darker animated movies.
Omg...i remember watching this when i was 10...my brother bought it on CD...I watched coraline the same age too and if you wanna compare them coraline is more creepy than scary...definitely recommend reading the book(it is written by Neil gaiman)...it is more scary than the animation...as a child when I watched coraline it realy terrified me and now as an adult I think it's more fun and intresting than scary...it has a lot of intresting details...I personally like coraline more because since I read the books and watched it thousands of times I'm realy attached to it but I totally get why some people love this animation more...it's an amazing and unique animation with the a great story(the story is definitely deeper than coraline)...anyway can't wait for the next video and this reaction was amazing as always...I realy wish you all the success in the world and I hope to see you hit millions subscribers soon...you realy deserve it...😊🤩👏🏻💐💐💐💖💖💖
I really liked this movie and it was such a surprise since I hadn't heard of it... but I think I might like Coraline even more. The visuals in Coraline are breathtaking, and there's something so perfectly melancholy about it, I'm very intrigued by the book. And thank you for the kind words and wishes! If I ever hit a million subscribers one day... I'll remember you were one of the first people to think I could :)
This is one of those movies that I wasn’t a big fan of as a kid, but I have a lot more appreciation for as an adult. Also, so excited for the Coraline reaction!
This film has one of the best soundtracks I've ever heard, the theme song for character 9 is simply incredible, one of the best works by composer Danny Elfman ❤ 🎶
Man what a throwback I absolutely love this movie and haven’t seen it in years. I found your channel from the Nolan Batman films and have been watching ever since, really enjoying the channel.
The Winged Beast and the Seamstress were so freaking well designed. The Cat Beast too but the Seamstress was the MOST terrifying how it lured the others with basically the dead corpse of their friend.
The characters in this film are so reminiscent of Little Big Planet's Sackboy for the Playstation... just with a horrific tone to the whole experience. :P
I like how they had that the creator of the ‘people’ and that machine weren’t made into good inventor vs bad inventor. The fact that it had the scientist make a screwup and felt semi responsible for the way of the world was honestly very nice and very mature.
This movie is such an underrated film, I remember seeing the posters and trailers and being so intrigued. Wasn’t able to watch it in the theaters but I remember my family renting it On Demand and absolutely LOVING it! We watched it over and over. Always a treat when we see it randomly being shown on tv (very rarely) Think I’m gonna have to track down a copy on DVD or blue-ray to keep in my collection Thanks for reminding me of this wonderful film!
This one legit gave me nightmares after seeing it in the theater. It's an awesome story. It's incredibly well made. And there are some deeply disturbing visuals in here. It's pretty damn dark. Really really good. And I keep having to tell people... animation does not always mean it's for kids. This... is not really for kids.
I have such a nostalgic love of this movie! The whole concept behind the Stitch punks (yes that's what the characters are called) and their creation is so fascinating! The creatures are wonderfully horrifying and it just sucks you in!
Did you know that Tim Burton joined the project along the way, and after watching the 2005 short film, Timur Bekmambetov decided to contact the author of the short film and create a cartoon. Also, the Russian version differs in details, some words have been replaced by others, slightly changing the story: somewhere a scientist says to destroy a robot, somewhere to save souls, in one a scientist created an artifact, in another he excavated.
Honestly this movie freaked me the hell out when I was a kid but I still loved it me and my dad watched it together and sometimes I had to hide in my blanket cause it scared me but now I rewatch it every now and than because its honestly a good movie
3:39 I laughed at this moment because this is EXACTLY what my parents thought when we went to watch it when it came out in 2009 ! 😂 But even if I was very marked by this film when I saw it as a kid (and made some nightmares at that time), I thank them because it was a real good movie and in a way it opened a new "door" in my mind in term of creativity and fictional universe. And even now that I'm a young adult, it keeps inspire me in my arts in some ways. So yeah, thanks mom and dad for the little trauma because it was worth it ! 😄
I remember in Russia there was something of theory or it was in a movie dub that each number represented someone from scientist past. 1. Is the evil counselor. 2. Is scientist's assistant. 3 & 4. Is scientist's kids. 5. Is scientist's coworker. 6. Is coworker who gone mad. 7. Is scientist's wife. 8. Is counselor's bodyguard. And 9. is scientist himself.
I think the same person that ended up making the script is also the person that made the initial animation that became this movie. It was of 9 having to set traps to take out the mouse skull robot from the beginning. Apparently it had killed everybody else but him because after he kills it he takes a talisman around its neck which is the same talisman in this movie and has a funeral which shows the ghostly forms of the other eight characters and the green colored rain.
Fun fact, a few weeks before the show came out, there was a facebook account named The Scientist, who was trying to warn people about the upcoming disaster and potential end of the world, is a nice ARG!
Duuuude, you are one of only 2 reacters that I've seen do this movie. It's such an incredibly well done animation, I absolutely loved it. Totally an underrated film.
I received this movie on BluRay as a gift from my best friend when it came out in 2009 and for some reason have not watched it so many times, probably because it is so haunting, but I do however like it because it is so strange and unique and as you said, truly one of a kind. Thanks for your insightful thoughts on this one!
I saw this movie as a kid and I remember crying a lot, not even because I was scared (maybe a little) but it really made me sad, I felt very sorry for them
3:40 you joking, but that what happend to me when i was a child. Back then that snake-hypno monster scared me so much i started to be afraid of the dark for a while
I love this movie!!! Thanks for reacting to this, to be honest, I feel this film is underrated... it is disturbing, but it's so human in a way that is incredible.
a little detail of the characters is that 1 is fear 2 is the smartest one 3 and 4 the... idk 5 is the armor ( sorry if i said something with nonsense) 6 the teorist 7 the bravest 8 the strenght 9 is curiosity
Do you wish there were more animated movies like this??
YESSSS!!!!!!
Pls react to DREAMWORKS animated movie THE ROAD TO EL DORADO youre awesome
Tim Burton did work on this film, he's one of the producers.
Yes! this is a hidden treasure
The western animated films need films like this one. It's silly that animation immediately makes people think "for kids". Maybe the growing Japanese anime scene will help change this slowly over time but we also need our own.
I remember seeing this as a kid and absolutely loving it. I would always watch 9 and Alien vs Predator over and over till it annoyed my mom.
Same here
Oh my god you had the same taste as me as a kid (well I was more of a tween then) even so, I would obsess over all the alien and predator films so much and I remember obsessing over this film too, I remember drawing The Machine in fucking kidpix on my mum’s old computer I liked the monsters and machine so much.
Same, something about how we manage to survive in a post apocalyptic world always intrigued me
For me it was 9 and Freddy vs jacen
Ya I think it's amazing that even as a child I loved this movie and watched it over and over again
It's Coraline
You can also see Anna y Bruno, a mexican animated film from 2017. Very different.
Same! My mom gave me this movie when I was like 6 years old, it left me with nightmares back then
I saw this when I was a kid and always loved it lmao can't believed there was so many kids scared... and now this movie is kinda forgotten because of that :/

I love this description, "fascinating and disturbing in equal measure"! So glad Burton saw the potential here!
I believe the director did describe the Machine as an abused kid who wound up with a lot of power, so this theory is very fitting.
Me too
I actually had a theory on the dolls
1 is pride
2 is compassion
3/4 curiosity and memory
5 is cowardice
6 is insanity
7 is independence
8 is strength
9 is courage
I liked 9, and the dedication of the Facebook page for the movie viewers to piece together the mystery on this movie. You can tell that this is indeed a thought out idea
The fact this movie involves Tim Burton it has to be good. And the fact that this came out in "999" is something else (September 9th 2009).
(wipes away tears)
As someone who loved this movie months before it came out, and joined the earliest fan forum for it-- thank you for being so gentle and sweet with this film.
Originally it was going to have a film trilogy but all these plans would be scrapped given that the film didn't find an audience at the box office.
Dang really?? That's really too bad, I would have loved to see more of the universe and this story continued...
@@nickreacts6394 me too... i love this movie so much, and want to know that Earth a lot more.
Haven't even watched this yet and I am SO excited you did this!! I feel like most people entirely overlook this movie. It's so clever and kinda creepy. I always loved this one. Hoping you like it...now let's watch!
This one is CRIMINALLY underrated, I had never even heard of it before
Most people haven't. Not sure why that is but it's a good watch once you discover it.
Okay I loved this. It has a unique style, you're correct. I had to laugh at the beginning when you mentioned the one ring and called him Frodo because it actually is the voice of Elijah Woods lol I had a good time watching this reaction 🙂
Elijah Woods is just awesome, I'm glad you enjoyed this one!
Edit: Congratulations if you read my full two paragraphs, here is a croissant for reading it 🥐
1 the leader
2 the inventor
3/4 twins
5 the mechanic
6 the painter
7 the warrior
8 the bodyguard
9 newcomer
So glad you've gone for this niche treasure. 9 is an amazing movie, filled with a lot of heart and jump scare creepyness. Loved it. Love the reaction, as often happens, if I hadn't already subscribed, this would've got you my sub.
This has remained one of my favourites since it came out. So creepy. So dark. So entertaining. It is wonderful to see someone react to it! Just starting the video. Hope you liked it.
I'm so glad I came across this movie!
I was so excited for this reaction and it did NOT disappoint :)
This movie actually came out the same year as Coraline and was severely overshadowed for many reasons, then got left in the dust.
Or at least they helped me:
1 to protect us,
2 to inspire us,
3 to define us and 4 to teach us,
5 to guide us,
6 to lead us,
7 to defend us,
8 to guard us,
And 9 to save us.
The rain on the camera in the end had bacteria, to show maybe, one day, humanity will get another chance
9 is truly something you have to be prepared for before you watch. Bless you for looking at this blind.
(At 2:25) Yeah, if Pinocchio was a homunculus or a "Stitch Punk."
5:27 "Well done Frodo" he says to a character voiced by Elijah Wood
I'm so glad you were able to enjoy not just the movie but the characters! I think most people associate each character with different aspects of the scientists personality, and 1 always seems to be associated with Fear and Survival. You can be capable of a lot of bad things when you're afraid and trying to survive. His character arc truly was wonderful and I love this movie more than I probably should lol
Oh I'm so happy that you actually did react to this, thought I'd have to wait for ages haha. I knew you'd like it, it's definitely underrated!
"So definitely not a kids animation"
*remembers seeing it for the first time when I was around 8ish*
I love this movie. I sometimes forget it exists because no one talks about it, but I found the concept so interesting and intriguing as a teen when I watched it first and used to watch it often
Grew up watching this movie i remember walking over to my aunts house in upper michigan to watch it a lot
I think your aunt is very cool
Great reaction! I really wish this movie got more recognition, it's such a fantastic film! I watched it when I was 12 and my younger sister was 10, we were extremely interested in it since we saw the trailer from Coraline, which we loved too. And when we finally got to see this movie it was the greatest thing ever to us. Happy to know you enjoyed it!
I don't remember just how much, but Tim Burton was definitely involved in this movie, he was also a major inspiration for the character 6 (as you can tell by the stripes, hair, crazy look and his drawings)
The movie is actually based on a short film Shane Acker made that pretty much only had 9, 5, the Cat Beast and no dialogue, it shows just how much of the creativity was already there from that start
I love this movie a lot, it's super nostalgic to me even though I didn't watch it until years after it came out, actually met my best friend because we were both making fanart of it, there was once a time where I was SO drawn into it that I just had it run on loop all day long while drawing fanart X'D
I really love how this movie was released on September 9, 2009 (9/9/9)
“Imagine bringing your kid to that and being like it’s a cute little animation”
Me going when I was like 4:💧👁👄👁💧
few people know
In Russia, by decision of producer Bekmambetov, an adapted version of the cartoon was released, with the plot slightly modified due to rewritten dialogues and added voice-over monologues. The texts for the Russian-language version of the film were compiled by Dmitry Glukhovsky
translated from Russian Wikipedia:
1 - The First contains memories of the Chancellor, who took the Machine from the Scientist before completing its animation and used it for bad purposes.
2 - is the Scientist’s assistant and faithful companion, who has worked under his leadership for decades.
3&4 - they contain memories of the professor’s twin sons, first-graders, as the Ninth himself claims
5 - is a doctor who cured the Scientist from a terrible disease and until the last treated wounded soldiers during the war with the machines.
The second keeps repeating that the Ninth has finally come to save everyone, but does not have time to explain anything - the Beast attacks the little men
The scientist is the creator of the Machine.
I remember seeing the previews for this movie and was immediately intrigued by it. It's still one of my favorite movies to this day.
Oh man, my daughter loved (and was terrified by) this move as a kid. Thanks for reacting to this!
Thank you! Great to have you along for the ride!
I don't get the reference but I googled that and I think the description is perfect hahaha
@@nickreacts6394 It's one of the most adorably narrated games as well. I don't know where my PS3 is but now I want to play this again with my friends.
I like how they had that the creator of the ‘people’ and that machine weren’t made into good inventor vs bad inventor. The fact that it had the scientist make a screwup and felt semi responsible for the way of the world was honestly very nice and very mature.
i still remember the trailers of this on tv
The style is a mix of stitch punk and diesel punk.
Man this movie is nostalgic for me, I am shocked that more reactors don't know or are not reacting to this movie, it is so underrated!
Welp 13 years down, 77 years to go before we get the Sequel...
(They made a big deal about releasing the movie on September 9th 2009)
“Who knows what dangers are out there”
My man, you have no idea
I watched this film when it came out on DVD, and it made me fall in love with the post apocalyptic genre.
This movie is extremely underrated
This movie is such an underrated film, I remember seeing the posters and trailers and being so intrigued. Wasn’t able to watch it in the theaters but I remember my family renting it On Demand and absolutely LOVING it! We watched it over and over. Always a treat when we see it randomly being shown on tv (very rarely)
Think I’m gonna have to track down a copy on DVD or blue-ray to keep in my collection
Thanks for reminding me of this wonderful film!
I was obsessed with this movie as a kid!! Coraline, 9 and monster house. Absolute classics
I have such a nostalgic love of this movie! The whole concept behind the Stitch punks (yes that's what the characters are called) and their creation is so fascinating! The creatures are wonderfully horrifying and it just sucks you in!
I saw this movie at the theater when it came out because I could've sworn it was advertised as having some sort of Tim Burton connection
But even if I was very marked by this film when I saw it as a kid (and made some nightmares at that time), I thank them because it was a real good movie and in a way it opened a new "door" in my mind in term of creativity and fictional universe. And even now that I'm a young adult, it keeps inspire me in my arts in some ways.
So yeah, thanks mom and dad for the little trauma because it was worth it ! 😄
Man I was 7 when the trailers for this started coming out, and they freaked the hell out of me. Watched it a few years back and ended up enjoying it
This movie is hugely underrated. I love that it's a dark animated film. It's my favorite animated film of all time.
I remember in Russia there was something of theory or it was in a movie dub that each number represented someone from scientist past.
1. Is the evil counselor.
2. Is scientist's assistant.
3 & 4. Is scientist's kids.
5. Is scientist's coworker.
6. Is coworker who gone mad.
7. Is scientist's wife.
8. Is counselor's bodyguard.
And 9. is scientist himself.
у нас не полноценный дубляж, мы решили вообще всё историю поменять
(At 3:25) I don't think that's the purpose of what that "talisman" is for.
This is one my favorite movies. It’s short, but has such a deeper meaning
I love the mechanical monsters. As a designer of abominations and macabre monstrosities that is the kind of stuff I aspire to create someday.
I saw this movie as a kid and I remember crying a lot, not even because I was scared (maybe a little) but it really made me sad, I felt very sorry for them
Me too every time they died 😅
3:40 you joking, but that what happend to me when i was a child. Back then that snake-hypno monster scared me so much i started to be afraid of the dark for a while
This movie is my childhood, this movie is why I love horror.
I love this movie!!! Thanks for reacting to this, to be honest, I feel this film is underrated... it is disturbing, but it's so human in a way that is incredible.
When I was young I would watch this everyday after school. Every. Day.
Needless to say my mother was concerned.
You were just wise beyond your years ;)
a little detail of the characters is that
1 is fear
2 is the smartest one
3 and 4 the... idk
5 is the armor ( sorry if i said something with nonsense)
6 the teorist
7 the bravest
8 the strenght
9 is curiosity
I remember watching this when I was little and I was absolutely petrified
BRO YOU GOTTA WATCH DISTRICT 9 NEXT. Its absolutely worth it
This was one of my childhood films and I still live to to this day!
“At least they’re going up”
He did not go there 😂
