At least now that we know that as long as if you defeat one pokemon on either side it counts as the winner of the match & the pokemon used by both sides for next episode's battle of Liko & Katy VS Rika as: {Floragato & Lokix VS Clodsire & Dugtrio} that beating Rika's Ace Clodsire would indeed be something if Liko could beat it, but if not beating Dugtrio on the other hand might be possible (to be honest, I would've thought Rika would have chosen to fight with her Closire be either Donphan [to make up for Clodsire's slow mobility]) or Camerupt [being part Fire would Really Challenge both Liko & Katy]
@@MarcusMapua Actually, the rule was that the battle will go on until either the Elite Four member loses one Pokémon or the student loses theirs. The students are the stars of these battles, so even if a Gym Leader loses a Pokémon, the battle will continue until either the student or the Elite Four member is out.
Tbh, despite how bulky Copperajah looks, it has really low Def and SpDef for a final evo. It's entire bulk mainly came from it's HP. And Baxcalibur is literally a pseudo with the highest Attack stat and busted ability. Roy and Brassius had no business being here.
That's really interesting that Copperajah has really low defenses! I don't look into stats in-game too much, so I assumed it was a pretty tanky Pokemon 🐘
And Copperajah was the main one of Poppy's pokemon that kept taking most damage from Dot & Iono, so it makes sense why he got knocked out. And all Roy & Brassius ended up doing most of the battle was just unfortunately powering up Baxcalibur with the "beauty of their attacks" which resulted in Baaxcalibur Glaive Rushing them to a Double KO
@@MarcusMapua Hassel's a hacker here. I do NOT remember Glaive Rush hitting multiple targets. When do animators learn a lesson? This sh** been a thing 20 years ago, and they still don't learn what move hits multiple targets and what isn't.
eh, I'm not going to hold it against them since this isn't a legit final battle against the elite four, they aren't gonna go all out when Liko, Roy and Dot are only doing a test
I mean, they mentioned it right at the start that the point of this tag battle is to showcase the students' skills. Both Gym Leaders and Elite Four are not allowed to terrastalize.
Some interesting details: Tinkaton was able to break through Reflect because it used Brick Break. The first time that move has shown its secondary effect in the anime. Baxcalibur has the Ability Thermal Exchange, which caused Fuecoco's attacks to power it up. The attack Bellibolt used was Zap Cannon.
I did think it was interesting how they decided to show Brick Break being used animated-wise to how the game portrays it; I figured they would've made it look like how Cubone used Brick Break in XY as both Cubone & Tinkaton are weaponry-gear users
Another interesting detail: The rules for these battles actually stated that the battle will end only if the Elite Four member loses one Pokémon or the student's Pokémon loses. If the Gym Leader loses a Pokémon, the battle will still continue, because the students are the stars of these battles. In fact, I have a feeling that this is exactly what will happen in the next episode. I bet Katy's Lokix will go down first, and then Floragato will have to battle two Pokémon by herself. The preview certainly focused on Floragato a lot.
Actually Ash was the first to use brick break to show the secondary effect in anime in Pokémon XYZ, during his battle in the fairy type gym he used brick break to break the barriers
The fact that is was Iono who did the most damage is what makes it work better. Larry pretty much shows that you being a Gym Leader doesn't automatically make you weaker than an Elite 4 member since he gets to be both. Copperajah took hits from Spark, Liquidation and the super powered Zap Cannon, so it was damaged before hand. I'd have liked for them give each battle its own episode, but given how it played out its fine. Also helps that Poppy was the only one to lose thus far.
Uh ruined is a bit harsh, the whole point of it was training. They weren't really official battles. Maybe later on they will have official battles against the elite 4 then it will feel real.
I agree for sure, I don't think this episode ruined the Elite Four either. But it's an opinion I've seen floating around a lot online after today's episode, and I thought I'd talk about it in the video 😁 I do think the Poppy battle slightly undermined the power of Elite Four members, but "ruined" is definitely an exaggeration!
@@supermariogamer1757 by that logic, any elite four battle Ash had is not official either. Battles don't have to be in a stadium, gym or packed arena to be official, or is that so hard for people to get?
@@eljordinio7647 the world championship matches were official, stop comparing this to Ash's battles. The battles in horizons work differently than Ash's series
I like the episode, but I want to see more of Paldea’s Elite Four’s power. This is only for the Terestral Test. Hopefully we see more of the Elite Four strength in the future of Horizons like during a major tournament. Seeing Poppy battle in anime was incredibly fun and enjoyable despite losing. I want to see more of this little girl’s strength to see how powerful she is as an Elite Four like the grownups.
So Fun Fact, the move Iono used to take down copperajah is Zap Cannon which is only learned by Bellibolt at level 50. Also need to note that Copperajah has little Def and SpDef. A question I had after leaening this is how much was Iono holding back against Dot during the Terastilization test.
I really like the strategies used and the artistic flair of Roy's battle. Also, I feel like Poppy's loss can be excused because she's the youngest and little kids don't really have the best attention spans. (And inb4 "she's nine", girl kinda gives the same vibes as Opal saying she's 16. Unless she has some growth disorder they haven't clarified, I'm kind of looking at her with a bit of skepticism. Still not great Copperajah got one-shot tho.)
I only fully noticed the artistic flair of Roy's battle when I rewatched it, after recording my video! I wish I spoke about it in the review because it really was awesome, and such a unique element to add to a battle! Perfectly fitting for Brassius and Hassel! 🎨
That definitely makes the OHKO a little better! Since we have no clue how strong Iono truly is... for all we know, she could be getting close to Elite Four level herself! 😎
Yeah. It was really more Iono's win. Geeta even stated at the beginning that rather than it was the student's battle, it was mainly really a battle between Gym Leader VS Elite 4
@@Pokeferlax yeah that why I love her. I mean Bellibot is fully evolved, right? So I will give a credit about that since Quaxly jumping onto Bellibot belly, my guess is their strategy is to jump on Bellibot belly is to charge Bellibot to full power and this is where Bellibot can able to one shot against Copperajah.
@@Pokeferlax Especially helps that plus the damage Bellibolt endured from Rock Slide & being "stepped on repeatedly" by Quaxly to power itself up with Electromorphosis to be able to boost a powerful Zap Cannon to beat Copperajah. If anything it made sense Copperajah was the main one on Poppy's side that took most of the damage; he either took it for Tinkaton or just toughed out through the attacks. When Tinkaton took a hit, it was mainly from her hammer & not really herself, so it makes sense
Just watched it (with subs) and whole yeah, Copperajah going down did feel a little Journeys-y, listening to Poppy and Iono challenge and cheer Dot, coaxing her and even letting her use strategy during the fight really made me appreciate her teamwork with Iono. Like, I can totally belive Bellibolt's ability would be super charged especially after the last time it was utilized during Dot's fight. That said, I feel like the E4 here are really likeable and fun. They all have distinct personalities that make me really love them, and I'm glad they are part of the storyline this way.
Honestly watching the episode with subs, and seeing dot come up with the idea to increase bellibolt's electric attack, with zap cannon being a strong move on its own. Plus I do believe that having a gym leader's ace, powered up, fighting an elite 4's non ace pokemon isn't really that bad as it looks, it did also have to take a lot of damage through the battle, discharge, liquidation, and a direct powered up zap cannon
indeed it did have Thermal Exchange. Unfortunately most of the battle was resulted in powering up Baxcalibur with the "beauty-artistry of their attacks" to lead to Baxcalibur Glaive Rushing a Double KO
@@hunterhq295 Not the best ace though; it is kind of a glass cannon. I mean do you honestly think Flamigo stood a chance against Glalie; by either itself in regular battle and/or if went through Self-Destruct?
@@miikaroos3809 Ok type-wise yes. But can you think that a physical fighter (like Flamigo) would be able stop a wide range exploding bomb like Glalie?!
I do understand why Dot and Iono's battle with Poppy is considered to be a disappointment because how easily both defeated her Copperajah. When watching the battle, we see Iono uses reflects to mitigate the power of Copperajah and Tinkaton's attacks. We also see Poppy's idea of using sandstorm and brick break to lower their defense. I also want to point out Dot's idea of using Terrastalization as a decoy to have Iono some time to confuse Copperajah to get the winning blow. I also like the detail of Poppy and Iono cheering up Dot because she feels that she didn't contribute too much in the battle. In which you could say kinda solves the power scaling situation
@@Pokeferlaxit would make some sense. In various other animations involving pokemon, it is often shown that the gym leaders have a different team lineup depending on how many Gym badges the opponent has. Now, granted this is the elite four, but I would like to at least imagine that the Elite Four would not try to go all out on up-and-coming trainers unless they knew they were ready for it
Glad Dot managed to win and redeem herself after her last loss but poor Roy man. He just broke his losing streak and suddenly it starts up again Yeah it's to an elite 4 level trainer but it's not like he was battling said trainer alone. He had a gym leader helping him That just leaves Liko to beat her opponent and get some redemption. She's already failed against two gym leaders, losing to another powerful opponent isn't going to do her any favours. Flora especially needs it cos she's been beaten like a rug since evolving
Albeit it will help in Dot's growth as she mainly viewed the battle & win was just Iono (which she isn't technically wrong about). As for Roy, yeah. Unfortunately most of the battle was resulted in powering up Baxcalibur with the "beauty-artistry of their attacks" to lead to Baxcalibur Glaive Rushing a Double KO
@@MarcusMapua I guess Roy didn't know about Baxcalibur's ability which powers up its attack if a fire type move makes contact. No wonder that Glaive Rush finished them off quickly
To be fair, Dolliv and fuecoco were pretty bad matchups against Baxcalibur (Dollive being weak to Ice types, and Fuecoco's fire only empowering Baxcalibur). Flapple, they _possibly_ could've handled if they'd focused on _it,_ but not Baxcalibur
To be fair I think the Elite Four were always displayed as a little overpowered in the anime. Like right before Ash battle Volkner, he lost a 3 v 1 against Flint's Infernape. Yet we're supposed to believe Ash would be ready to battle the Elite Four and the Champion if he won the Sinnoh League. Then again the writers might have purposely made them too strong because Ash was never meant to beat any of them. It took until XY for an Elite Four member to be defeated, and Alain was at a disadvantage when he won. In Journeys Ash finally defeated an Elite Four member, but after he already defeated a Champion Trainer with Iris, so we never really know when his Journey Pokémon became Elite Four level. I think they are nerfing the anime Elite Four strength, to make it more believable that a beginner Trainer can actually become a Champion level Trainer at a relative rate.
Yeah, for whatever reason, the Elite Four have always seemed either too strong or too weak in the anime. They were basically gods in the first four Gens. To make things worse, Ash's battle against Drasna was a total mess. I'm not saying he shouldn't have won, but pretty much everything about that battle was poorly written and made no sense.
Ig ash became elite 4 level at end of kalos and from alola onwards he was a e4 until end of alola when he beat kuki (that's when he became a champion level trainer) and when he beat leon he became number 1 and world champion level finally
I totally get what you mean about Poppy's Copparajah getting OHKO'D so easily like that, it felt a little bit like a Journeys battle, I agree to a certain extent. Don't get me wrong, I actually enjoyed that battle for what it is. But in terms of the power scaling and the pacing of the battle, Roy's battle was handled explicitly better!
Yesss I completely agree! I enjoyed the battle too, but the ending felt... very Pokemon Journeys, haha. Roy's battle was DEFINITELY handled way better in terms of power-scaling and everything 😁🔥
@@Pokeferlax Yep Yep! It was great, looked like a contest battle! Which is what you and I thought of when we saw the moves combined lol. Hassel did not disappoint and neither did Roy & Brassius, which is what I expected going into this ep! Also the poppy fight, what saved it imo was the fact that Iono, a gym leader, was the one who got the kill and not Dot.
I mean... this is not actually Elite Four battle in Pokemon League tho. Just like the gym battle is just a test. Clavell said these battle is also an entertainment for the student, to see/meet the Elite Four, their pokemons & how they battle. If the Elite Four actually use their full power, just 1 hit KO every student's pokemons and win. I really like how this episode show us so much character, we almost meet every gym leaders & elite four in the same place and this is not the League, just school program. Iirc in the past seasons seeing all the elite four have to be in the end of series, and it is rarely to see the gym leader in the same place. Imagine casually meet almost all of the strongest trainers in the region not as a trainer who have gym badge yet.
Hm, I see, fair points and opinions, i hope next Episode doesn’t disappoint. I also still hope to see Dot’s Tinkatink and Poppy’s Tinkaton bond in someway.
2:32 for the record JN's wasn't the only series to do that. it happened way earlier in hoenn and the battle frontier sagas which I know some people happen to like, once Ash got to Flannery, most of his important battles had the factor of Ash's pokemon taking so many hits yet winning with one good counter strike, kind of pace breaking the battle by doing so, the battle frontier was just as bad about that, I mean look at Ash's fight with Tucker, he clearly had Ash's number with his fire water combination tactics, yet somehow Swellow and Corphish were able to win with one good hit each, and before that his fight with Greta, alot of people think Ash's Snorlax had unlimited health due to how much damage it took. The only battle in JN's to me that truly gave me a similar feeling was Ash vs Drasna, because I won't deny that yes Sirfetch'd and Dracovish took abit much damage wise, but I was willing to overlook it in Sirfetch'd's case when it took down her mega altaria because she and her altaria were being way to smug and she deserved that loss. That said, It's clear the elite 4 are holding back, otherwise why wouldn't they use terra as well? I'm sure that if poppy had, she would've won no problem.
@@piens51 it's not like flint or Bertha were trying against ash either tho and they still whopped him Dot is a novice trainer she is not supposed to tank any hit from an E4 following logic same goes with Larry He lost to a self distruct
Probably a bit of an unpopular opinion going off your reaction to this episode. But overall thought it was a pretty nice one, think the battle was well animated, I liked the strategy’s used. Only problem was Dot and the the streamer gym leader winning, granted the strategy to distract while powering up a big blast was cool, but I feel like it should not have one shot especially when electric isn’t super effective against steel and when it’s an elite four Pokemon. Apart from that I don’t think it’s any where bad as some might say it is, definitely didn’t ruin them so far.
I enjoyed most of Dot/Iono VS Poppy, but sadly I just don't think the ending was great. OHKO'ing an Elite Four Pokemon feels weird to me, it kinda feels like it undermines the power they should have. So we have similar opinions really! I mainly titled the video what it is because that's an opinion I've seen floating around a ton today, so I wanted to talk about it in my review 🔥
I was going to say the same thing because while I didn’t like how it concluded regarding Liko and Iono’s battle against Poppy (Considering how Copperajah was one-shotted felt a bit underwhelming which makes me feel sad since I love that Pokemon), I am not the biggest fan of one-shots in Pokemon and its not even remotely badly as some people would say considering it really didn’t feel *ruined* the elite four for me personally but moreso undermined and downplayed. I didn’t mind Iono because I love her to death but felt like Dot should have her fair share of the battle, at least balance it out of who does support or offense but issues aside, I loved it!!! 🥲
[elite 4 member loses once] "the writers must think they're super weak :( and doesn't take them seriously at all :(" people act like the e4 losing a single battle means they have their titles immediately stripped away from them while being told "get lost and go fuck yourself. lol." 😭😭😭😭😭
I know I’m late commenting this but… 2:30 I think that’s actually the best explanation to this issue now that I watch your vid again. I love Iono(and probably most fans too) as a Paldean Gym Leader and she’s probably the one of the strongest(if not the strongest) Paldean gym leader but we’re talking about an Elite battle. She’s not brutal in battles too so I don’t think she’s on the elite or champion level(or at least the highest ones). I think they should do Poppy’s Copperajah justice a bit. Maybe Iono and Dot should lose but also defeated Poppy’s Copperajah only at the same time. Basically the same result but more faints in Dot’s side…and maybe they should do a little bit more damage to Poppy’s Tinkaton(I don’t know). It’s not that serious battle anyway so… 5:55 It make sense but we’re talking about an Explorers member in disguise battling. You mentioned earlier you expected it. I think it’s fine that way. That’s just me.
Great review of this latest episode of horizons it was great to see Dot win her battle from her previous defeat and I loved Roy teaming up with Brassius thanks again Pokeferlax and looking forward to the next video 👍❤️🦊❄️
In other words , they plot armored Dots battle. thats not just a journeys Vibe, that was most of the whole series itself. and to be fair at least Dot didn't Commit the finishing blow. Gym leaders maybe a skill or power class below elite 4 but that doesn't mean that it's impossible for them to win against them.
In Dot's battle, I thought it wasn't that bad & it made sense how the battle played out: most of Dot's team took damage from only Sandstorm, Rock Smash, Brick Break, & Rock Slide (1st half of those moves do deal too much damage) & with Bellibolt kind of a tank, it made sense it was able to tough through & use Quaxly-charged Zap Cannon to Copperajah, Who Was the main one of Poppy's pokemon that kept taking all the damage (albeit overall it was mainly Iono's win than Dot's). For Roy's battle, it really was one-sided as most of it ended up with him powering up Baxcalibur to Glaive Rush a Double KO. - As for Sango's, it was declared that she Lost her battle as the rule was the 1st pokemon knocked out either side loses, and Glalie knocked itself out First with Self-Destruct to knock out everyone else. - Onyx I sorta get why he lost: Onyx is a Soldier-Warrior. He wasn't going to sacrifice/let Tulip (his tag partner/backup~subordinate) be defeated so he & Garganacl took the hit for her which made them lose. If Onyx hadn't, he'd feel like it'd be disgraceful to him. He really is a Soldier with a Warrior's Honor & Pride. He might be my favorite Explorer > At least now that we know that as long as if you defeat one pokemon on either side it counts as the winner of the match & the pokemon used by both sides for next episode's battle of Liko & Katy VS Rika as: {Floragato & Lokix VS Clodsire & Dugtrio} that beating Rika's Ace Clodsire would indeed be something if Liko could beat it, but if not beating Dugtrio on the other hand might be possible (to be honest, I would've thought Rika would have chosen to fight with her Closire be either Donphan [to make up for Clodsire's slow mobility]) or Camerupt [being part Fire would Really Challenge both Liko & Katy]
In my head there are 3 reasons why Dot win so 'easily'. 1 Its not just dot vs poppy, Iono and bellibolt are that strong, and it did the final blow with a boosted zap cannon 2. Poppy probably wasn't giving her best... It's just friendly battles vs students, I assume the E4 are holding back for educational purposes 3. (meta) We didn't have that much time in this episode for a longer battle. I enjoyed both battles and sandwich explosion gag was funny.
I just defeat Kieran in Pokémon Scarlet The Indigo Disc DLC Part 2 and become the Pokémon Champion in the Blueberry Academy too and now i'm in Area Zero with the Teacher, Carmine and Kieran. About of Carmine and Kieran is it possible they're in Pokémon Horizons anime and coming on it soon? I would LOVE to see Liko, Roy and Dot visiting in Kitakami and then Blueberry Academy! 😮❤
Maybe the next part should be star training centers, but you would need 3 Pokémon, and since the main trio only have two they’re going to need to go and catch one more Pokémon
Quaxly proccing Bellibolt's Electromorphosis is some peak doubles strats! :D If only it was a ground attack and Bellibolt had a Weakness Policy~ And yeah, Copperajah has realllllly high HP, but baaaaaad defenses in terms of game mechanics. Conversely, Baxcalibur is a tank unless you have a supereffective move, and its default ability, Thermal Exchange, actually gives it a power boost and blocks burns from fire attacks! I see where you're coming from, though! In that respect, Dot x Iono's battle seemed more reminiscent of playing the game and stomping the E4 (They were uhhhh... *not really challenging* to be blunt?) whereas Roy x Brassius' follows some more narrative realism.
The Sandstorm in my opinion was a good strategy in a weakness to Bellibolt. Bellibolt's ability only activates when it takes direct damage from a move & since Sandstorm in dealing indirect effect damage to Bellibolt, it bypasses the ability from activating
I bet it especially won't make Roy fans feel any better that with the official translations out on the subtitles of this episode saying in general on Roy's words that "in order to get stronger, He's Gonna Keep on Losing!!!!!!"
@@redshot5403 But that armor Team Rocket used didn't even take down Bertha. It "took down" Buizel & Pachirisu, but Bertha stepped in as she was angered by how they artificially powering up Pokémon & responded by One-Shotting the armor & KO Team Rocket's pokemon with one blast from from her Golem's Rock Blast. The armor never stood a chance at taking down any of Bertha's pokemon
One one hand, I get that the elite 4 are meant to be powerful trainers and all so the complaint about copperajah losing in one blow is justified, but all the same, the fact that electromorphosis powered up that electric type moves does make sense with how the winning blow was scored. I think a one shot works if it's paced well enough
I bet that Floragato will both learn a new move and have to battle both Clodsire and Dugtrio by herself next week. The rules stated that the battle is not over if the Gym Leader loses a Pokémon, so I'm absolutely positive that Lokix will go down first. The preview focused mostly on Floragato, and even the episode's name is Rika vs Liko! Katy won't play a big role at all, this is Liko's time to shine.
I think it was a great ep showing off abilities from iono/hassel and teamwork only think that could of make it better is dot using fighting moves because fighting is SE against steel and Roy after seeing fire doesn’t work because of it’s ability he should’ve just used stomping tantrum and disarming voice rest of the battle. The next ep won’t just be liko battle we have dot and penny moments and most likely grusha/Anne battle, it was a great way to show off the GL/E4 because this is most likely the only time we are going to see grusha battle and show up in this arc at all if my count is right that we only have 5 more ep before we leave. The second half of the E4 matches then the terapagos ep after it then the last 3 test for the kids dot vs kofu, liko vs tulip and Roy vs ryme. After that we should be leaving to get back to the main plot the treasure hunt.
Instead of Liquidation at Copperajah it really should've been Low Kick. As for Roy, Unfortunately most of the battle was resulted in powering up Baxcalibur with the "beauty-artistry of their attacks" to lead to Baxcalibur Glaive Rushing a Double KO. Based on the subplot happening while Liko is battling, it kinda reminds me of scenarios when Croagunk is dealing with Team Rocket during Ash's Gym Battle. And At least now that we know that as long as if you defeat one pokemon on either side it counts as the winner of the match overall & the pokemon used by both sides for Liko & Katy VS Rika are: {Floragato & Lokix VS Clodsire & Dugtrio} that beating Rika's Ace Clodsire would indeed be something if Liko could pull it off & beat it, but if not with how troublesome it could be, Beating Dugtrio on the other hand might be possible
@@MarcusMapuayeah and she might learn a better grass move most likely petal blizzard in place of leafage and if she does with boosted Tera totally see her winning
Definitely worth the watch! I enjoyed it still overall, I just think there were a few issues that shouldn't have been there. But still a fun & entertaining episode :)
Maybe they could've been handled better but at least we got ALL of the elite 4 in this series. Seriously I don't think we've met the entirety of a regions elite 4 since Sinoh.
Ok I just need to say this Roy doesn’t feel like a good character like liko and dot seem to have way more personality than Roy and he is the dual protagonist but he feels like a side character like he has no role in story whatsoever like at this point he needs a redemption arc or something cause man he doesn’t feel like a protagonist at all idk what growth he has had as a character compared to dot and liko like what are the writers doing this is just disrespectful at this point I feel like the two main characters are just liko and dot ok this episode I can see why he lost it’s an elite four member but how many times is he gonna freaking lose its becoming hella repetitive at this point for 55 episodes what has Roy done to impact this story other than just release Rayquza or what had Roy done to grow as a character and if the elite four really held back omg it just shows roy will never grow 😭😭😭
I bet it especially won't make Roy fans feel any better that with the official translations out on the subtitles of this episode saying in general on Roy's words that "in order to get stronger, He's Gonna Keep on Losing!!!!!!"
@@MarcusMapuaat this point they need to make a spin-off series or an Roy redemption arc because every single time he loses I feel like he barely learns anything he just smiles and says some random bs to brush his loss under the rug like this episode when dot won she felt like she didn’t really win and she felt like her partner did all of the work but she learned from it and took time and it felt like she grew from this anti social streamer to now a actual Pokemon trainer but when Roy loses he’s just smiling from joy without learning
@@justdavid1712 😂 at this point I don’t think the writers even care about Roy anymore any time Roy gets to shine it’s always not felt important or his spotlight has gotten stollen by someone else the biggest feat Roy has got to be a decent trainer one day is him hitting a legendary once that’s it 😅 and I think if they did do a spin-off or arc he would need to leave to group for a little while and learn to grow this time because if he’s with the main group he’s just gonna be overshadowed like he’s been the whole series like if it was not for the liko and Roy set off title I wouldn’t even know Roy is a “dual protagonist” because I feel more attached to dot, friede way more than Roy hell I’m feel more attached to the Pokemon themselves than Roy like hattrem and teropogas I think they are written better than Roy
The events of the games are separate canon relative to the anime. It's the reason we don't see Brendan, Lucas, Hilbert, Hilda, Nate, Rosa, Calem, Elio, Selene, Victor & Gloria during Ash's tenure. Arven might appear in the anime at one point, if the writers could figure how to adapt his story, especially given that both Scarlet & Violet gave his slightly different stories, neither of which are happy.
They should have just given each of the Elite 4 battles their own episodes so none of them had to be rushed just like how they split the quarterfinals of the Masters 8 tournament into their own battle episodes.
Popy is to focused on tingkaton to much that she forget about copperajah, and yeah copperajah defense is soo weak as steel type no matter if its elite 4 pokemon Also everytine baxcalibur get hit by fire type, it became stronger (it also cannot being burn) that why baxcalibur didnt dodge it
Agreed that Poppy focused way too much on Tinkaton. As well as agreeing on Baxcalibur. Roy & Brassius got too caught up in the artistry in their moves that they ended up powering up Baxcalibur to Glaive Rush them to a Double KO Grave
Honestly i don't hate this episode. Sure its not perfect but it's everything i expected. The Explorers gag battle makes sense since this was a focus on the kids. As for the main 2 battles Im proud of my girl Dot for winning and she even was upset she win because it felt unfair and unbalanced. (Poppy is just a baby though sooooo yeah... She's still precious). Then Roys battle gosh dang! RIP to the homie. (To people getting mad he lost it's the FREAKING E4) So it's understandable. And Baxscalibur having Thermal exchange. Just damn! When it comes to Liko she's probably gonna lose especially for being at a semintype disadvantage from Clodsire so we'll see what happens. 8/10
At the very least it'll help Dot's personality & character grow. She mainly felt like she didn't contribute much as the battle was mainly Iono vs Poppy and that they only won as Bellibolt was the one that defeated Poppy.
And I bet it especially won't make Roy fans feel any better that with the official translations out on the subtitles of this episode saying in general on Roy's words that "in order to get stronger, He's Gonna Keep on Losing!!!!!!"
it isnt an official battle and i think its fair to say the elite four must have used their extra pokemon and not their main ones cause if it was their main ones they would have completely wrecked beginners
This episode was overall decently good ig, so I think for dot's battle, she should have had a full episode for her battle cuz quaxly could have evolved that way
1. Nothing's anime nonsense here, Copperajah has bad defense stats, period. Hence, it gets OHKOed easily. Things would be different if Poppy uses Corviknight or Magnezone. 2. If Zap Cannon wouldn't hit, that would turn the battle against Dot and Iono's favor.
i don't really care i still think these are just tests plus Geeta picked these characters herself so really there isn't a real power scale for the E4 and gym leaders
it tells us that the Gym leaders are on par with the Elite 4 cuz Geeta picked all of them out so they all are on par its just some are stronger then others in situations
In the games, after you beat the elite four and champion, you end up working in geeta's stead evaluating the strength of the regions gym leaders. Their pokemon are at the same experience level as the elite four and champion, roughly around level 60. The pokemon the gym leaders use when you challenge the gym in the earlier playthrough are merely testing your experience level at that stage in the game. (Spoilers) Same thing with geeta after you beat the story of the indigo disk. You face her again at her full strength, showing why she is the top champion. And if you want to contrast anime vs. gameplay, while the anime doesn't show level difference, the anime does show the difference in experience. They just always reset Ashes' experience because the show is targeted to children, not teenagers or adults. Additionally, Geeta, in the games, is not only the top champion. She is also the chairwoman of the pokemon League and the Academy. This was obviously planned and organized by Geeta and coordinated with Director Clavell and his battle studies instructor, Ms. Deedra. Realistically, it makes sense for this region, which has been given more structure than the previous regions.
She didn't really lose her cool this time. I think unfortunately using Self-Destruct is just her go-to move. She used Self-Destruct at the start of the battle to take everyone out; thinking she won, but by rule it led to Larry's win
@@eljordinio7647 It's kind of like in the games, when you self destruct, your Pokemon is fainting itself to take out the enemy. Using it when your last Pokemon is the one using the move counts as a loss for you everytime. So with Coral, her using it basically fainted her Glaile first and then everyone else went down with her.
@@eljordinio7647 That's the thing though, I believe it's counted as an intentional knock out. Because it's no surprise what happens to your Pokemon when you tell it to explode, in calling out the move you are effectively fainting your own Pokemon. So with the rules set, whomever loses a Pokemon first loses for their team and because Self Destruct, a move that literally always knocks out your Pokemon was used, they count that as a knock out because the trainer chose to use it knowing full well their Pokemon was going down. Regardless of who faints first in the match up, the trainer choosing to use the move will automatically be considered as the one who fainted first. They made the move so they consider it fainted once the move succeeds.
I feel like this episode would have worked a lot better if the elite four were only allowed to use one pokemon, and the battle was a 2v1. Then they could have had the elite four member slowly pushing back the gym leader's pokemon, then the student being the thing that pushes the gym leader over the edge and making it an even fight. Making it a 2v2 just really undermined the power of the elite four, because making this one a close battle implies that either the gym leader is stronger than the e4 member, or that the student is on par with an e4 pokemon, neither of which should be the case. A 2v1 would have allowed for creative teamwork strategies to overcome a clear power deficit, which is what I think the episode meant to portray.
I'm 100% sure elite 4 were holding back. Gym leaders never goes full out on chalangers so in a match like this that was ment for training only O doupt thes would go all out
I disagree - I think there’s such a big cast of characters and the nature of paldea is more toward education than competition - it’s way more fitting that we meet the elite four early, that they also play a collaborative part in the students’ education. My biggest complaint is more that the show ignores perfectly good type match ups; quaxly could have used low sweep, fuecoco could have used stomping tantrum etc. Also y’all Roy is FINE. He was hyped after the battle! He’s using it as a chance to learn and he had fun, that’s what the show is telling us that matters, not just winning
To be fair, Quaxly was focusing on Tinkaton. Fighting-type attacks are not super-effective against it. Also, Fuecoco did use a super-effective move against the Dragons, Disarming Voice. Stomping Tantrum would have been his weakest move against Baxcalibur and Flapple.

Perhaps even childish
She's 5...

@@laxusstrauss5945 yes they have. It's not anywhere near as strict, but the stats in the game do translate to the anime a lot of the time

@@Pokeferlax fair enough XD from what I remember copperajah's defense isn't actually that good but don't quote me on that lol
It is like a trial before they are really ready to take them on.
I mean, they mentioned it right at the start that the point of this tag battle is to showcase the students' skills. Both Gym Leaders and Elite Four are not allowed to terrastalize.
Some interesting details:
Tinkaton was able to break through Reflect because it used Brick Break.
Another interesting detail:
The rules for these battles actually stated that the battle will end only if the Elite Four member loses one Pokémon or the student's Pokémon loses.
@@Fallensnowch No. That was X-Scissor used on a Trick Room.
@@wikiuser92 Oh was it? My bad then. But still that was the first time when secondary effect was actually shown in the anime.
Maybe the elite 4 was holding back secretly, to test the other trainers.

@@Pokeferlax today is the new episodes of Horizons Dude 🥳🥳
It was as official as any other battle Ash has had. Besides Dot won, which is precisely what she needed to do after her loss against Iono
@@eljordinio7647 they weren't official, because if they were, the elite 4 wouldn't be this weak
I think they wanted to show that Iono is not weak. Remember that she guides Dot while Nemona guides Roy.
“Ruined” feels a little dramatic to me
I like the episode, but I want to see more of Paldea’s Elite Four’s power.
@@Pokeferlax It was like watching a contest battle, definitely a really nice detail for a between two artists. 😁
Doesn't baxcallibur's ability do something if hit by fire type move?
It boosts Baxcalibur's Attack, I think! That probably happened during the battle too but I couldn't pinpoint the exact moment! 🔥
It raises Baxcalibur's power
At least it's not Dot final blow right? It's was Iono final blow.
Dot helped
Well baxcaliber is 1960s Godzilla and most likely had the ability thermal exchange
indeed it did have Thermal Exchange. Unfortunately most of the battle was resulted in powering up Baxcalibur with the "beauty-artistry of their attacks" to lead to Baxcalibur Glaive Rushing a Double KO

My favourite part of this episode was the doppleganger return liko and her group should confront them for what they did in the annihilape jungle
I'd love to see that in a future episode!!

I'm hoping the Elite Four were REALLY holding back, because that definitely makes the battles feel more realistic 😆
@@Pokeferlaxit would make some sense. Yeah it's to an elite 4 level trainer but it's not like he was battling said trainer alone. He had a gym leader helping him
That just leaves Liko to beat her opponent and get some redemption. She's already failed against two gym leaders, losing to another powerful opponent isn't going to do her any favours. Flora especially needs it cos she's been beaten like a rug since evolving

@@miikaroos3809Drasna battle was very well written

If the Elite Four actually use their full power, just 1 hit KO every student's pokemons and win.
I really like how this episode show us so much character, we almost meet every gym leaders & elite four in the same place and this is not the League, just school program. Iirc in the past seasons seeing all the elite four have to be in the end of series, and it is rarely to see the gym leader in the same place.

Anyway, Copperajah isn't that bulky to begin with aside from its HP

2:30 I think that’s actually the best explanation to this issue now that I watch your vid again. It’s not that serious battle anyway so…

Quaxly proccing Bellibolt's Electromorphosis is some peak doubles strats! :D If only it was a ground attack and Bellibolt had a Weakness Policy~
And yeah, Copperajah has realllllly high HP, but baaaaaad defenses in terms of game mechanics.

@@MarcusMapua oh yeah, I’m thinking of Aaron maybe?
@@redshot5403 Yeah I think it was Aaron
One one hand, I get that the elite 4 are meant to be powerful trainers and all so the complaint about copperajah losing in one blow is justified, but all the same, the fact that electromorphosis powered up that electric type moves does make sense with how the winning blow was scored. I think a one shot works if it's paced well enough
Especially since Copperajah was the main one of Poopy's pokemon that kept taking the hits; it either endured the attacks or shielded Tinkaton from it
@@MarcusMapua that, and copperajah doesn't have that good special defence anyway
On the + side
At least its not tinkaton that got the short end of the stick and was defeated instead
I've heard pretty bad things about this episode. Is it worth the watch
Definitely worth the watch! I enjoyed it still overall, I just think there were a few issues that shouldn't have been there. But still a fun & entertaining episode :)
"Is it worth the watch?" What is the point of following a series if you don't watch every episode at least once?
@@miikaroos3809 I have? And I watched this one already. I've been following HZ. This episode was alright. Don't assume stuff
@@miikaroos3809 for your information. I've already been watched the episode, you're late
For your information I did watch the episode
If there’s a battle, it’s a good episode
Maybe they could've been handled better but at least we got ALL of the elite 4 in this series. Seriously I don't think we've met the entirety of a regions elite 4 since Sinoh.
Ok I just need to say this Roy doesn’t feel like a good character like liko and dot seem to have way more personality than Roy and he is the dual protagonist but he feels like a side character like he has no role in story whatsoever like at this point he needs a redemption arc or something cause man he doesn’t feel like a protagonist at all idk what growth he has had as a character compared to dot and liko like what are the writers doing this is just disrespectful at this point I feel like the two main characters are just liko and dot ok this episode I can see why he lost it’s an elite four member but how many times is he gonna freaking lose its becoming hella repetitive at this point for 55 episodes what has Roy done to impact this story other than just release Rayquza or what had Roy done to grow as a character and if the elite four really held back omg it just shows roy will never grow 😭😭😭
you're not wrong
I mean at this point whenever he battles I’m not expecting him to win I’m just waiting to see his best response when he loses
How is it that Florian, Juliana, and possibly Arven hasn't make any appearance yet.
Popy is to focused on tingkaton to much that she forget about copperajah, and yeah copperajah defense is soo weak as steel type no matter if its elite 4 pokemon
Also everytine baxcalibur get hit by fire type, it became stronger (it also cannot being burn) that why baxcalibur didnt dodge it
Agreed that Poppy focused way too much on Tinkaton.
Still waiting for Coral to Normal Terra Self-Destruct her Glalie
espresso the first coffee type
At least it a trainer and gym leader vs elite 4 trainer
it isnt an official battle and i think its fair to say the elite four must have used their extra pokemon and not their main ones cause if it was their main ones they would have completely wrecked beginners
This episode was overall decently good ig, so I think for dot's battle, she should
have had a full episode for her battle cuz quaxly could have evolved that way
What, you think Corviknight would have survived a boosted super-effective Zap Cannon? I think not.
@@miikaroos3809 if it hits, yes
i don't really care
i still think these are just tests plus Geeta picked these characters herself
so really there isn't a real power scale for the E4 and gym leaders
it tells us that the Gym leaders are on par with the Elite 4 cuz Geeta picked all of them out
so they all are on par its just some are stronger then others in situations
TELL ME
HAS THE GLORIOUS CLODSIRE TO BE IN ANIMATED GLORY?
Next episode
Indeed he is next episode; and from what the preview showed he's going full force with Mud Shot, Sludge Wave, & Poison Jab
Clodsire will be in the battle between Rika and Liko/Katy next week! I can't wait to see it!

Tulip, Larry, and Kofu were robbed
well they were paired with the explorers after all
☝🏼
In the games, after you beat the elite four and champion, you end up working in geeta's stead evaluating the strength of the regions gym leaders. Their pokemon are at the same experience level as the elite four and champion, roughly around level 60. The pokemon the gym leaders use when you challenge the gym in the earlier playthrough are merely testing your experience level at that stage in the game. (Spoilers)
Same thing with geeta after you beat the story of the indigo disk.
Look how cute Poppy is with her Steel types! 😍
good vid
Typical of coral to lose her cool and screw up. Guess that's one member of the explorers who's not a serious threat
She didn't really lose her cool this time. I think unfortunately using Self-Destruct is just her go-to move.
She used Self-Destruct at the start of the battle to take everyone out; thinking she won, but by rule it led to Larry's win
@@MarcusMapua how when all the Pokemon were taken out, including glalie itself?
@@eljordinio7647 It's kind of like in the games, when you self destruct, your Pokemon is fainting itself to take out the enemy. Using it when your last Pokemon is the one using the move counts as a loss for you everytime. So with Coral, her using it basically fainted her Glaile first and then everyone else went down with her.
@@dash9641 so if they're all out regardless of who went down first, it's a no contest since nobody won
I’m not the only one who thought Poppy was a literal toddler
I pronounce Espathra as Es-path-ra, or as I call her, Lady Gaga.
Literally cause I named my Espathra in Pokemon Scarlet Lady Gaga
Baxcaliber is such a good pokemon in my opinion not my favorite psudo legendary but its up there
Agreed
Lo tomare como una batalla de entrenamiento y no algo oficial :3...asi evito andar llorando jsjjsjs.
Good vid. :)
Thanks so much, I really really appreciate it! 😁
I enjoyed the episode but expected elite 4 to be stronger. I knew the explorers would end like this
Honestly it makes sense that if any of the elite 4 lost, it would be Poppy since shes like 6.
She's meant to be tougher than Rika
@@hunterhq295 I mean yeah you're not wrong, you do face her afterwards but still she's like 6 so if they had to have one lose, it would be Poppy. Also the others have more experience just because of the fact that they aren't in like 1st grade.
