I bought one of these project Jon boats from this gentleman about a year ago. He is fair in his asking price considering the time he puts in. I was a first time boat owner with questions after the sale and he was very generous in helping me with them. I recommend going to his craigslist posts if your looking to buy and close enough to pick up.
Yea it's fast, but it's also been stripped bare. No trolling motor, no second battery, no fishing gear, small gas tank. It scoots, but all you can do is drive it around.
The only thing I do not like about that boat set up is the color of the boat (white) to me that would be blinding reflection out on the water on those bright sunny days, although I could be wrong. Otherwise it's a real nice set up boat and motor.
great video, i have an 18ft lund Alaskan sv with a 40hp. with 3 adults and rough water, 6"+ chop. we hit 26mph. i didnt think to trim it off a little, cant wait till next time,lol, i assume its alot faster if im alone. im thinking maybe 35?
i have a 1948 feathercraft vagabond (light riveted aluminum raceing boat) with a evinrude 40 hp and its really fast off the line but tops out at 29 mph with a 27 mph average.. the 40 is a big motor for this boat.. im wondering if a diffrent prop would help get better speeds what pitch do you recommend
A rude, or any motor will only spin so fast , yup 5500 for omc and 6k for Merc. If you are already there, the torque above that drops off and it won't go faster
vojomatusenko - Whereabouts roughly are you located? I've heard many stories filled with negativity surrounding used outboard motors but if I knew someone like you who fixed these motors up and resold them I'd definitely be open to buying one off them.
I have a 1650 Lowe with a 1999 30hp Johnson and get about 25-27mph. I just picked up a 1986 Johnson 40hp real cheap. Should it perform on my boat like your Yamaha 40hp does? Am I comparing apples to apples as far as performance goes with a 40hp Johnson and a 40hp Yamaha? If I got 35mph I would be super happy with that.
If yamaha 40 3 cylinder is little stronger than Johnson 40 two cylinder it will not be by much. I had once Johnson 28 SPL getting my empty Fisher marine 1650 32 mph.

I just repowered my 1999 Alumacraft MV angler with a 2000 40HP Yamaha I hope to get similiar numbers from mine. She gets wet this weekend

Hi I have this same motor but I don’t have the controls for it. Do you know if yours is a 7 or 10 pin connector for the controls
10pin has electric trim 7 pin doesn’t.

Yes you should prop up, Get a tiny tach and prop to get your max rpms just below spec.
Turbo hotshot stainless is a nice product
