I like J. Krishnamurti's formulation of meditation as "choiceness awareness". It is the thought-borne self, the ego, which picks and chooses, and when thought is absent there is only awareness. Also, he says: "The thinker IS the thought." There is no ego apart from thought. Every thought we have carries the implicit stamp of self. And when the mind is observed without choice, without wanting this thought or arguing with that thought, the mind, like a muddy pool, is made clear by non-action. Any desire to still the mind is a continuation of noise, and so "choiceness awareness" leads to the silent mind, which is the non-dual mind. I had the pleasure of meeting Krishnamurti in Sydney Australia in 1970 where he gave a series of talks. And I have read all of his works. A great platform you have here for the exploration of such things.
I had a mini awakening the other eve. It lasted about 5 minutes. There is no doubt at all that that was what it was. It has since dissipated, but has given me motivation to continue. I'm going to give your method a try. It will be a little tricky dropping the fixation of being a separate self because I'm so used to that idea that initially there doesn't seem to be anything to replace it with, so I've decided to drop the fixation and see what happens. I love your videos, please keep them coming 😊

What "method" has been useful for you to remember your True Nature? If you are interested in a pointing-out instruction that can aid in the recognition of our True Nature, I explore one in this video: th-cam.com/video/fYiz_I7K120/w-d-xo.html. In its essence the pointer is: Where do perceptions take place? Experiment with integrating this instruction with the method I describe in the video above and let me know what your experience is like.
Thank you for this video. What has made a sustained difference for me has been the practice of Yoga Nidra. By repetitvely grounding myself in my senses initially and by that process allowing for the stillness of body and mind it has now become effortless and has had far reaching effects. That inner silence in all situations has carried over to just being without a concious "efforting"
I find Douglas Harding, the headless way methodology to be the most efficient and direct way for not only Seeing our true nature, but also seeing what we are not. Without this, I would never have the understanding and insight into other teachings. I’m amazed how the majority seem to make it complicated and mystical.
Listening to the silence underneath sound is the way by which I discovered the open nature of awareness. Now it's there whenever I remember to "look" - however, although it comes with a shift of how expansive and restful I feel, it is not classically non-dual in that there is no observable merging of self with the outer world. I deeply appreciate ND teachings, especially the notion of complete non-striving (even for beginners, to arrive at non-striving is restorative to the nervous system), but unfortunately so many ND teachers are speaking from a place that can only resonate to those who've already had an experience of the center dropping out. For the aspirant, we hear a word salad of terminology so common in ND teachings that I'm affraid is typically not helpful in its aim to evoke awakening. And as taboo as it is to speak of progress, I suspect some degree of progress in mindfulness is in order first. Without it, the idea of "dropping the practice", or inquiring about the I, is surely to produce subtle striving to understand these concepts without noticing that one is in a state of striving.
Thank you sir, this just show up in the right time, coz I'm struggling to keep my daily meditation alive and the reason for that is that I'm trying too hard to be aware of my breath it's like I'm fixating myself on the breath, but now I know that I am just naturally I am and I don't have to try hard and I just remember what Eckhart Tolle said is that the criteria for meditation is how peaceful you are inside.
Being mindful of the breath can be a beautiful and useful practice. In my view all practices eventually lead to the realization of the fundamental Effortlessness of our Being.
Just subbed. Very good content thanks. Maybe for a future video you can tell us about your awakening, when how etc. Did you follow some good books ore teachers? More stuff for the hungry ego :P.
Thank you, I'm glad to have you here! I will consider it, but at the same time I don't want to over-emphasize specific experiences I had because that can seem to suggest that our True Nature is an object of our experience or that I as a person have had some kind of special realization. In actuality the honor of realization only belongs to True Nature itself.
Another really good video Sam. It seems you have this innate ability to communicate spirituality, and our true nature in a very understandable and accessible way. This in turn in allows for lay people like myself to take part and awaken without feeling like they need their degree in spirituality..
That is very kind of you! Focusing on the essential aspects of this understanding and expressing it in a direct way is exactly what my aim is. I'm glad to read that this is how it is received.
The problem I have in non-dual pointers is that I am always waiting for "that" feeling or state to happen it even while following the instruction. "Ok I did what the speaker told me to, but where is the enlightenment? Can't find it." Maybe its result of learning too much theory about the state/ true nature. Thanks for shedding the light that its not about doing something , but rather undoing the falseness. Theres no way I can get from fasle to truth by doing something. The false needs to be eliminated for the truth to reveal itself. Hopefully the truth will reveal itself someday in my case. It can be fruatrating tbh. Sometimes I wish I didn't know about the concept of True nature. Things wouldn't have been this way. But the more I learn the more I want to get to that state. But the more I try ro get to that state, the more far away I get from it. Hopefully shiva will reveal himself to me before Yama ends my life.
Ever since i was a little boy, whenever i was afraid of the dark. I could kind of focus inside my mind and summon a vibrating sphere in front of me. I called this sphere my best friend, and whenever i succeeded i would never get nightmares. I can still summon it. I sometimes do it when i meditate. I can also summon other patterns and images. Is that what i am? Is that non dual meditation for me??
Hey there! Our True Nature in of itself is not an object of our experience, a sight or a feeling. Our True Nature is the Clear Openness which takes the form of all our experiences, including the form of a vibrating sphere. So your real Being is more fundamental than whatever your mind can summon. I'm not trying to diminish your practice, however. If you find it useful, there's absolutely nothing wrong with it.
