Where were you when I was a kid!! I was super into Zelda props back then, your channel is like connecting my past self and my current self's interests!
If you ever run out of carpet tacks, if you go on amazon and look for cabinet bumpers, they are like perfect little rivets for props, they come in loads of different sizes, some domed others flattened, they even have square ones
Wow! That 1mm foam was paper thin, but it really added added extra depth to the shape of the sword. And the super glue on the sword tip was an excellent tip (lol)! I'm really looking forward to my 6mm arriving so I can try making this and the other templates myself. Thanks so much for sharing them! :D
That’s a cool tip and definitely another way to approach it. But I’m from the traditional color theory and mini painting realm so I almost always work dark to light a White background kills the shadows and inclusions. Luckily Liquitex cadmium red is extremely opaque so it doesn’t have an issue covering where a lower pigment paint could.
Thanks! So many of my friends have already made that though (kamui cosplay did a great one last year) I really like to make props that are harder to come by
Oh ok, I enjoy your videos, I use your hd foam to help me make my own Cosplay Projects, I'm on my instagram posting my art projects, so thank you for making interesting projects.
Awesome build Steven! My son was just asking me to build him a sword out of HD foam. I think I found my inspiration! What type of blade do you use on your band saw?
That's fantastic to hear! My blade is really old but works great on foam. However I just bought a foam blade from McMaster Carr for my other saw but haven't tried it yet. basically you want a blade that is perfectly straight no wave or offset teeth. and as high a tpi as you can find
This looks really great and goes well with the shield. btw none of the links in the description go to the products. the amazon one redirect to the front page and the bitly just go to a 404 not found.
@@SKSProps cannot wait to watch it i have an idea for something you could try to build ever the Hookshot or Clawshot but since you have gone mostly Ocarina of time i say Hookshot, but this is just an idea i don't expect it or anything i always feel weird when giving ideas through comments i feel like i am being pushy or something like that.
I really like the transparent blue paint and how it allows the silver to shine through but I dont own an airbrush. Is there another product that I can buy that will have the same effect?
Zelda stuff looks pretty cool though I never got into it..question, have you ever done a patina paint on foam? Like the green/mint patina over brass or copper? If yes can you point it out to me, if not, could you?
Wonderful build as always! Your painting skill always impresses me as do your ability to get such a smooth finish on your props. I just made a fairly large order of your HD foam, taking advantage of the free shipping over $45 offered and I cannot wait to get my hands on more of your awesome foam and foam clay! Do you think you could extend your Carbon fiber rods using glue to adhere two of them together? I am thinking of making a really long sword that's about the same thickness as your blade and I want it to have a strong core. I usually use 4' long dowels, but I'm not sure they will be strong eough.
First off Thanks!! And I usually use the fiberglass rods or metal yard sign rods I just had already cut that one down for another project is why it came up short. For cosplay use a dowel would prob be fine you’re not fighting it would be different for larp
Thank you very much! When Wet sanding you use a super fine grit sandpaper the water acts as a buffer and will help collect the debris. Usually this process is used as a last step to get the smoothest finish possible
Thanks! It's currently freezing in the midwest so I can't spray plasti dip and creature cast is non toxic. As far as thickener I put in a very small amount at a time and gradually increase the viscosity until I get a good mix. It's just added by eye.
@@SKSProps Got it. Thanks! So I could easily just Dip it where I am in SO FLA without the added cost/learning curve of Creature Cast. Although, I know a lot of you pros use it, so might be worth looking into. Thanks again and love the videos!
Steve has some good products, but he heeps forgetting to add the "Don't expect to receive your order anytime soon" part of the "Buy my products from Blick Art Materials" statement. On the same day, I ordered in-stock items from Blick (in Wisconsin) and Jimmy DiResta (in New York). The DiResta order was delivered to California in a 4-5 days while the Blick order took weeks to arrive. I don't want to hear about "There were weather issues", the DiResta order went farther thru the same "weather". I get it, not everyone is Amazon. If you are going to order from Blick, order well in advance of your needs and be prepared to wait.
Sorry about your shipping delay but your situation is definitely not the norm. Most everyone that orders from Blick is 3-5 day delivery schedule which is standard for FedEx or ups shipments. Also the fact that a package came from New York faster than Wisconsin is not a valid argument because shipping is dependent on supply depots and carry throughs not overall location. Believe me I’ve shipped more packages than most and I’ve seen deliveries that are 2 states away take longer than to the other side of the country. Plus as a large company with thousands of skus and orders Blick ships a lot more packages than Jimmy DiResta so of course they aren’t going to pull stock, pack, and send something out as fast as an individual shipping one or two boxes
I like the idea of prop making, but I don't like loud power tools... (That and I don't really have a "workshop" or space to do this kind of stuff in...) > I can see that you didn't use a lot of power tools... 15:08 ---> R.I.P Mr. Iwata (12/6/1959 - 7/11/2015)
This is specifically the Ocarina of Time design. The Majora's Mask Kokiri Sword has what I like to call a "block handguard", or in other terms, it's a solid block of metal instead of a normal handguard, as well as a different pommel (the bit at the bottom of the grip) and grip tape.

I'm obsessed with these Zelda builds!
Fantastic! I’ve got a few more coming up 👍
Both props are crazy stunning!
Thank you!
Super cool!!
Thank You!
came just to see the paint job for the blade, it was awesome!
Thanks! Hopefully it helps some people out there wanting to add to their painting bag of tricks!
We'll be Ganondooring with this beast!
Incredible work with easy to understand and follow steps. Thank you! Going to apply this technique to a fierce deity sword.
Awesome! Thank you!
Pieces are on point as always
Thanks!
Those are very cool designs! Thank for sharing Steve
Thanks! And You’re welcome Phil!

Nice! Being an injected mold rubber how does paint hold up on them in the long run
@@SKSProps I've only used them fairly recently, so I can't really tell, but it doesn't just rub off as far as I can tell, so I'd assume fairly well
ok, you just blew my mind with the creature cast. #newcosplaysupply!
Yeah it's definitely cool stuff really like the fact it's durable but non toxic need to break out my old airbrush and try that method soon

Looks nice! If you want a more brilliant gemstone be sure to underbase your red with a layer of opaque white first to really make the red pop.

Can you do the master sword?

Might try saber blue from plaid fx it’s metallic that’s thin just add additional water to thin it out some more

Any tips for grit numbers and Dremel speeds?
Watch my video on how I make my own custom sanding drums. That’s all you will ever need
Will that smoothing technique, with a piece of poly foam, work if you seal with modge podge or flexbond?
Yes but remember they are water activated so water can be used to help smooth but to much can ruin the surface
Both props would work in a legend of Zelda ocarina of time movie they look so real
Thank you very much! 🙌

🤣🤣 Yeah I noticed that when I was editing left it in anyways 👍
I’d paint them first before connecting them, but I’m not the expert here just giving out my experiences

Just for display so I don’t need one. But I’d just trace around it and make it out of 6mm foam
