Now, not only are they offering a criminally low wage, but they’ve also reached a new low: not just slashing the hourly pay but also trying to compensate for it with these miserable crumbs they intend to pay per interpreted minute. I’ve just discovered a new historic low for how far human miserability can go in its drive to exploit their terps. Please, dear interpreters, I urge you to tell them to go to hell in the most respectful way possible-if such a thing is even possible
$3 per hour? That means that either some interpreters are still forced to accept that rate because of lack of experience or qualifications, or that companies are trying to make their crimes something standard. Either way this is bad.
@@ThePotatoWaveOfficial 3 usd is VERY low, even by latam standards. They wanted to mask it by offering a mixed per minute rate, but Mason is totaly right, you either work per minute or per hour, not both at the same time.

I am currently working for Proppio as a Bengali Interpreter for 0.2 USD per minutes as an independent contract. I had to accept it as I didn't wanted my all eggs to be in the same basket. Moreover, Bengali Interpreters I know and contacted don't get that much of a higher pay in any mode (per hour/per minutes). Can you please let me know what should I do here?

I want to say that you did the right thing by not putting all of your eggs in one basket and my suggestion would be to continue expanding your career as you work. @@masontheinterpreter thank you, but please answer my question, do you take note of the longest speechs in paper ? Is not allowed to do it in the pc, for e, g , word? What is the hack for take note of longest speechs without using protocols to ask for repetition?

I've taken some long segments as well, and I can say that those are not IDEAL, but they might happen, even if you have asked the LEP and client for smaller sentences. So you have to be prepared anyways. These are some things I do to help me: 1) FOCUS on the message 2) take notes on ideas 3) study symbols and abbreviations during the week with flashcards, so they are fresh in my memory when I need to use them 4) Write down the name of people involved in the first time, and after that only abbreviate with the first letter 5) Use a notepad to practice verticalization and shifting 6) After the long segment, remind your client that for completeness, accuracy and quality of the call you would like to have smaller turns. I'm sure more experienced interpreters have more to say about this matter, and I would love to hear more about it too.
