Sarah Lynn quote from S01 E03: SL: "I'm at a place right now where I never need to grow as a person or rise to an occasion because I can constantly just surround myself with sycophants and enablers until I die tragically young." BJ: "Wh.. what?" SL: "Yeah it's pretty much too late for me." The writers had a clear idea of the plot even though they write only one season at a time. From Bojack's call in this episode, it's clear that he's the enabler. "Sukadik dumshits."

Sarah Lynn was really interested in Architecture, she commented on father and son's building little house, the shape of the dome in the planetarium etc. never got to pursue her real passion and unfortunately ended up a victim of Hollywood mentality and exploitation

Poor Sarah Lynn. She was getting better, even if the reasons and tricks for being sober were weird, they clearly worked for her. Maybe they were weird, so she could keep motivating herself. But Bojack came, and yet again dragged someone down with him, like he was drowning with the lifeguard.
Bojack is not to blame. He's a trigger, not a bullet. She kept tons of drugs on her house, right by her hand. She made all the wrong choices by herself. Bojack is a full toxic person, but it would had happened sooner or later even without him. Often, we try to find excuses or a scapegoat for the others did but most of the time, it's their fault too. Yes, she said earlier it was so the next time she does drugs it'll hit extra hard, but if that was her motivator, so be it. Fact is, she was sober, and Bojack knew this, yet when Todd called him out and he felt alone, he called her up to do drugs with him. Then he suggested they go on a bender. He didn't just trigger her to relapse -- he actively encouraged it. I'm not saying he outright murdered her. But there is blame to be placed on him for using Sarah Lynn as a prop to feel better about having severed his other connections, without regard for how it would affect her. It was selfish, thoughtless, and resulted in her overdose. He was constantly using her, as a substitute daughter figure, as a way to promote his show through her fame, as an enabler, as a drug provider, as a sex object, as a way to avoid his problems and mistakes. It was the drugs that killed her. If Bojack hadn't taken her on a months-long bender and provided her with heroin they then did together, it's not unfair to say she may have lived longer. How much longer? We can't know. But this is what happened, and it is a result of Bojack's actions. He is guilty. Not of murder, legally. But dismissing his role in her death or waving it away with "she'd have died sooner or later" misses the point of this plotline, and of Sarah Lynn's role in the show as a whole. Her death was a direct consequence of Bojack's actions. It wasn't fate, or doomed, or a tragic happenstance -- this overdose was entirely avoidable. And she'd been avoiding it for 9 months.
@@quinintheclouds firstly, bojack didn’t introduce the heroin that got her killed, she was looking around in his car and found a bag of heroin bojack forgot about from a thing they were trying to solve, how is it bojack fault that Sarah Lynn rummaged through his car and found the heroin that he had forgotten about entirely considering the coke was from season 2 or smth and we’re in season 6, also Sarah Lynn could’ve not answered the phone, or even not agreed to have a party with bojack, she could’ve said no but she didn’t, in fact she was more than happy to get out of sobriety
It’s no surprise that people sometimes skip this episode on rewatch. Also from here on out the series is what people are talking about when they say BoJack Horseman is one of the best shows ever made. Can’t wait for your reactions to some of the greater episodes in season 5 and 6
As horrible and heartbreaking as this episode is i have to say it’s in my top 5 but maybe that’s because i also have substance issues i need to work on lol anyways i love Sarah Lynn so much and I’ll never get over her and the fact every one in her life failed her horrifically.

Possibly one of the hardest episodes to rewatch and one of a handful of episodes that crushed my soul on my first watch. Kristen Schaal has been one of my favorite actors since I saw Gravity Falls and Mabel reminded me of my own sister. Mabel and Sarah Lynn are two vastly different characters but after this episode, I needed a nice long hug from my sister because of how much this one hurt.
6:05 it pisses me off that he says he isn't proud of what he did and that he's worried about her when he just shared this very traumatic experience (that she obviously doesn't want anyone to know about) with a bunch of people and even told them to look her up
There are so many key episodes that you have to watch in order to understand the series finale. This was one of them. I watch this whole series over and over and it never gets old or any less shocking.

This clearly is one of the saddest point of the serie, i loved her character too and felt the exact same way as you, kinda angry at Bojack. But i think the point is that you can still change, i wont say how or when but Bojack shines trough the next half of the show (yes, there will still be some veryy sad things) but i personally really saw a difference between the two halfs of the show. They probably knew they needed to help us keep caring about him as a main character since for many fans, this is the saddest thing that happened in the show. I really hope you enjoy whats to come since personally, i really prefer 4-6 to 1-3 even if those seasons are still amazing lol. And last thing, i loved how you basically predicted it from the start, i really didnt see it coming 😅 and of course, loved the video man 👌😁
After JUST finishing S4, I get why people are saying that's where things get even better. I'm really excited for the back half of the show, but my god I don't think I'm ready lol

With how Bojack, Sarah Lynn, and Todd were partying in "Downer Ending", it's a wonder that none of them keeled over THEN. Were the latter two even there, "helping" Bojack with his writing? Or was it just a figment of Bojack's drug-fueled imagination? It's hard to tell, even to this day. Anyway... They got lucky then. What the three of them did took place over the course of a few days. But here, it lasted a whole *month.* And two of them really pushed their luck, now.
Dude Bojack did not get her killed. She got herself killed by falling into the drug gang if you can call it that. He does feel really bad about it. It isn't even his fault in all honesty. He has his own problems. It is not an excuse by any means, but it is somrthing to consider. This is not the same as if it were some cancer patient with a month to live doing this. People did have a choice albeit under duress.

I would never skip episodes on a first watch through! Nor would I recommend anyone ever doing that.
