Matt dropped everything in the States to move to a hilltop Village in Italy. Why!?

  • Come to Soriano nel Cimino with me in this episode of ‪@realexpatslivinginitaly‬ , a quaint little hilltop town with a castle just about an hour from Rome (near Viterbo), to meet the simpaticissimo Matt.
Matt and his wife moved to Italy and have been living in Soriano since just before the pandemic.
They are permanent residents and have special work visas as musicians. Their love of Italy made them sell up and tackle the move (with their cats!). They managed to get a special visa because of their profession!
Matt and Zeneba are accomplished Grammy-nomination classical musicians who still play for a living as the String Duo "Orsini Virtuosi", as well as running their own tourism business. They also have a book published about their experience of moving to Italy, which is well worth reading:
"I Can't Believe We Live Here: The Wild But True Story of How We Dropped Everything in the States and Moved to Italy, Right Before the End of the World".
You can find the book and their travel business at:
    www.littleroadseurope.com
To book their musical talents you can visit:
    www.orsinivirtuosi.it
Find out how they managed to obtain their visas and how they are finding their new life in Soriano.
Please subscribe so you don't miss all the stories of ‪@realexpatslivinginitaly‬ that are still to come.
Please remember these are real Expats, not actors, and we are often out in the open with all the bustle that entails.

Just found your channel and subscribed. I live in America and plan to move to Italy someday, though I'm currently looking into Italian citizenship and will continue visiting Italy regularly in the time being. It's my happy place - all of Italy. Anyway, I believe I understand the "situation" in 2016 that prompted this couple to leave the US. I couldn't manage it at the time, but what might happen in 2024 will prompt me to speed everything up. Just ordered their book on Amazon and look forward to more videos from this channel!

Anche nel mio paesino suonavano le sirene al mattino e alla sera nelle fabbriche. Ora non si usa più qui, però a me dispiace. Ne ho nostalgia 😅

'Fuckertunity' is a nice neologism. Another great interview, starting from a different point of view, the musical one. Surely what needs to be underlined once again is the search for a life at a slow pace, immersed in ancient culture, if someone doesn't aspire to these things can't come to Italy. I hope this channel grows up to at least 100k subs.

Great post and reality-based interview, thank you! I almost stopped in Soriano in October on my last visit as some friends from the US were staying at the Palazzo Catalani. I particularly appreciated the info on getting a driver's license. I have an ex-pat friend in Capalbio who is still reliant on her native Italian husband to drive as she cannot get past the written test. I think their approach to start by attending Scuola Guida was a good strategy. If I'm not mistaken, you also have to drive a car with a very small engine for a year, too?
    Really appreciate these experiential discussions.
    Wishing you all a great 2024! 👍🏼 🎉🎊

'nuovi patentati' have a limit on the cylinder size of their cars. But best to ask a scuola guida or ACI office. Thanks for watching!

Hi! Any recommendations on on good moving companies from US to Italy? They all sound awful (reading a lot of horror stories). Any info would be much appreciated!
