Thank you for this video. A shop manager said no that is just the way it is and I looked at your video and did this myself . Thank you I will be a customer learning from you. Saving me time bicycle rides and money. I am the can do lady...:) Tina R.
I think I’m not alone in saying this, but not only was this video awesome, it helped A TON! I took longer than the 15 minutes, but that’s because I work slower lol. Great video and keep ‘em comin!
I just had to do this on my 1991 Explorer. My shifter came off while trying to change gears!!. The play I had was very bad: I knew something was not right, and I was right. I went to NAPA and bought the shifter rebuild kit and did what you did. My two pins looked in good shape also so I did not change mine either. The kit did indeed improve the shifting 100%. The bolt that holds the shifter on the transmission shaft had worked it's way almost out causing it to rotate freely and and just lift up and off. All better now!
I can't get the shifter bolt off because after I take it off the one in it won't go on the other end to tighten. Is there any other way to do it it seems like it only takes to good turns on the other side to crack it loose
Thanks for watching, I put in the bottom spring washer and the top one. I couldn't figure out where the third one went so I left it out. It's been 3 years now and still working good.
@@ScottieTooHottie84 I can't say for sure but I think it does. All I used was the the two rubber caps and the the two rubber bushings. I reused the old hardware.
Thanks for watching. I doubt a worn bushing would disable the shifter to go into reverse. Start with the simplest things first. Are you sure he’s pressing the clutch in all the way? Is the transmission low on gear oil. Is the clutch reservoir low?
Hello I have a problem with my f150 03 don’t go in gear but when’s starting out it does good but 40 to 50 minutes it doesn’t want to will a shifter bushing repair kit help it?
Hey man, great video but I noticed at 5:42 that I’m pretty sure your missing a bushing retaining pin. Mine had 2 pins in oposite sides that I had to tap back to get the spring washers and bushings in. If you still have a little slop that might be why.
@@NickG My 2 pins were visibly "necked down" by a couple mils... luckily they both came out with a flat-nose punch and moderate tapping... new ones went in so easy I took 'em back out half-way, applied BLUE loctite, then back in... Dorman, Made in Cheena, what can you do... lol.
@@NickG learned that you can have it in any gear and still remove it. However, when you place it back it won't fall where it needs to be and the gears won't shift. Had to press the clutch, put a flathead inside press and pull it into neutral so the shift bar base would fall back in place. It worked. Learned the hard way on that one
On my '88 I have a sloppy lever. The lever itself is wiggly under the thick plastic shaft. The whole lever will turn on the cast iron knuckle with vice grips and doesn't seem to tighten or loosen. WTF!?
@8:49, my BAD, I was wrong, went back and look at my pics, you were right--that flimsy "skirted" seal goes on last, ideally tucked under the first little bellows on that "fixed" main-seal with the 3 screws.
@@NickG Nick I myself was not offended just disappointed however my wife and daughter were offended ! P. S. As for your video it was sloppy all the way around you need practice

Thank you helped me a lot I like how you got right to the point!!
Thanks for the kind words and thanks for watching.
Thankyou for this excellent video!!! Watching from the jungles of Belize 🌴🌴🌴🌴🌴🌄
Thanks
Thanks for the video. This is a job I need to do soon. By the looks of that brake pedal, I bet the odometer has rolled over a few times!
Thanks for watching. Yea the odometer rolled over twice.
One of my pins (6:50) is stuck and won't come out. I even took a crowbar and hammer to it with no luck. Any idea what I can do to remove it?
They should just tap out from the inside out. Have you tried using a punch or a long bolt or even a socket extension?
Check for a nick--or other tiny obstruction--in the OUTside surface of that "collar housing" that might be keeping it from backing out...?
I can't get the shifter bolt off because after I take it off the one in it won't go on the other end to tighten. Is there any other way to do it it seems like it only takes to good turns on the other side to crack it loose
You can try hitting it lightly with a soft hammer. Be careful not to damage the threads.
Thanks for your demonstration a very good is the bushing kit very expensive to replace
Thanks for watching. The bushing kit was not expensive at all. At the time of filming it was under $20 and available on Amazon.
Thanks buddy! Bought a 99 ranger off this one guy tonight. It vibrates and shaking going into gear. Hopefully this is my problem!
Thanks for watching, let me know how it turns out.
Did you leave the bottom spring washer out ?
Thanks for watching, I put in the bottom spring washer and the top one. I couldn't figure out where the third one went so I left it out. It's been 3 years now and still working good.
@@NickG That kit only comes with 2 bushings and 1 spring washer though, correct ?

What's the year make model of your truck? I have a 2001 ranger
It's a 1993 ford ranger. base model. I believe they called it a fleet truck. Good luck with your ranger.. They're great trucks.
Love the benny hill part…😂awesome video
Thank you. My son uses our 1991 Ranger, and said it wouldn't go into reverse. Do you think this might be the problem?

Thanks for watching. Not too sure.without physically seeing it. Sounds like you might have a clutch problem
@@NickG okay thx
Hey bud where'd you get the 3/8 and 1/2 drive ratchet that's extendable had one gave to me can't find another though
Thanks for watching. I got the ratchet handle from Tractor Supply it was $18.
Mine won't even move now after I installed it. What did I do wrong. The original problem was that it was really hard to shift
Thanks for watching. It sounds like you may have other transmission problems

Thanks for the tip. I reused my old pins. The shifter came out so tight. That I missed shift quiet a bit till I got use to it.

Can it be on first gear or does it have to be on neutral to replace it?
Thanks for watching. I put it in neutral. But I believe it could be in any gear.

Hey don't hate on Ford for that retaining stud.. This is a Mazda transmission! Nice vid thanks man
Thanks for watching, I love my Ford/Mazda truck buying it was one of the few things I done right
Plenty of other reasons to hate on ford ...
Nice vid. I'm having that problem with my ranger. Tq
Thanks for watching.. Hope it goes well for you.
Love that benny henn music.
Can’t get my pins out but they don’t look terrible
Thanks for watching. I left my pins in too. it looked like too much work to get them out
Thanks for the video. I sure hope I find a doughnut down there…😂
at 5:33 i dropped two screws down into that black hole
Thanks for watching. Down into the transmission? You gotta get those out if you did.
@@NickG 😅 help
what is the name of that bolt at 3:06? i think mine is stripped
I believe it’s called a shifter retaining stud. The easiest place to find one would be at a junkyard
This is what I need to do to mine to my ranger has 161k just as bad
Thanks for watching. Let me know how it turns out.
Im now changing clutch & tranny.. & shifter bushing kit. T Y.
Thank you

Damn you had the missing monopoly piece I needed to win $10,000
