  • Vanadium CHEM Study 2nd Edition
The Chemical Education Material Study, better known as CHEM Study, was developed in the early 1960s at U.C. Berkeley's College of Chemistry, Lawrence Hall of Science, and Harvey Mudd College, and continued at the Lawrence Hall of Science through the 1980s. The textbook was written by Glenn T. Seaborg in the early 1960s.

    The Chem Study Drinking Game
The Chem Study Drinking Game was played numerous times during Period 3 Honors Chemistry in the 1994-1995 school year.
It was also played once during a special meeting of the Bill Nye the Science Guy Club.
Beverages used for the game have included Pepsi, Dr. Pepper, water, Sunny Delight, Capri-Sun, and Hi-C.
    [...]
To play the Chem Study drinking game, you will need:
A set of Chem Study films on tape (one film for a short game)
An ample supply of your favorite beverage
Start by inserting the Chem Study film series into the VCR. Have Mr. Lusk turn out the
lights, and begin the tape. The game begins as soon as the tape starts. Every time one of the listed effects
happens in the film, everyone takes a sip of their drink.
    Drink When:
    A candle appears
    - Twice if it doesn't have the Chem Study logo on it
Whenever the cool theme song starts
Whenever the cool theme song stops
Whenever a scientist is shown from the neck down
    - Twice if they show from the waist down
--- Three times if you see his face
The electron team makes a guest appearance
You see the neutron detection room
    Something explodes
    - Twice if the scientist directly caused it
A solid floats around a liquid and fizzes
    - Twice if it dissolves completely
Whenever they mix chemicals and nothing happens
A molecule looks like its havingan orgasm
Something drops into a test tube from above the screen
    A model is used
    A cartoon diagram is used
    Anyone does the Molecule Dance
    Something reacts with something else
    - Twice if they show a closeup of how it occured
--- Three times if we don't know why it reacts
An equation that you write in your notes appears
Two people are shown on the screen at the same time
    - Twice if one of them isn't a scientist
Someone appears on the screen without a lab coat on
    - Twice if he isn't a scientist
--- Three times if he does an experiment anyways
    If the announcer mispronounces something
    - Twice if it's not "protein"
Every time the class laughs at the chemists
Whenever the announcer changes for no apparent reason
Every time Matt Harlow falls asleep
Whenever Josh Cosby actually takes notes
    - Twice if he'll actually need to use them at some time later
Whenever the number 14 is used in any form
    An open flame is burning
    - Twice if they heat something up with it
--- Three times if it just wastes fuel
    If it's in color
    If it's a talkie
    If it's award-winning
Whenever the scientist asks a question
    - Twice if he's talking to himself
--- Three times if he says "WOW!"
If he answers his own question
Whever a chemical can't be obtained
    - Twice if its because of toxicity or radioactivity
--- Three times if its because of cost
Mr. Lusk goes into his "secret back room" during the film
    - Twice if he doesn't return til the end
Mr. Lusk tells someone to be quiet during the film
    Someone makes fun of Gary
    - Twice if it's not J.R.
--- Three times if it's not another Sneak Attack League Member
A disembodied hand does an experiment
    - Twice if it's a disembodied arm
A reaction is shown for more than 5 seconds
    - Twice if it's for over 10 seconds
--- Three times if it does nothing the entire time
The game ends when Mr. Lusk turns on the lights. No matter what you've been drinking,
you will remember the theme music. The last person to give up drinking on each cue is the winner. Of course,
    ties are possible.
If at some point a player falls out of their desk, they are disqualified. If no one is paying attention or awake,
the game may as well be abandoned.
