Maybe you could: - show your replays to higher-ranked players so they can tell you what you're doing wrong - go all-in on Silver tactics (e.g. яush dust2's B with five Negevs and 20 smokes in a buy round) - play -osu!- aim practice maps

I was in silver for a while, the prob is if you learn the game on an account for a couple hundered hours you won't influence your elo as much the more games you play. So you tainted your rank. I had an alt and got gold nova 2 after 10 won matches even though I was silver elite after 150 matches won on the other. The best way of knowing if you're not placed in a good rank is seeing if you consistantly top rank whcih was the case for me.
how people end up in silver is beyond me.. I calibrated 2 accounts. and both of them hit DMG at some point. one account ended up in MGE the other probably GN3 or 4. I do have 200 hours in the game.

If you solo queue, you're gonna get inconsistent teammates (example: The four teammates in your first game are super good and they carried you. The next game, all your teammates are noob.)

Quit csgo for one year, was MG2, came back at nova 1. 1 week of solid play, mostly solo queue, up to nova 3. Loving being back, and still loving your content man, you have taught me a lot in the time I've played this game.

Same but i got sliver 3, had to dc because my sister needed to go to the hospital and deranked to sliver 2. Been stuck since last week ussualy top score but no one in sliver 2 uses smokes and i tend to lose more then i win

For context, I (2300 hours 500ish wins) queue with my old teammate who also deranked (2000 hours 600ish wins), both of us consistently top frag, and find the occasional truly shit player, but both agree that the silvers we verse are far beyond the skill level they used to be.
William Leach I got from gold nova 1 to Eagle (mostly DMG) from like 2015-2018. Then I went away and stopped playing, or just played in the summers and vacations, so I stayed as a MGE mostly. Then I didn’t play for almost a year, I came back recently and my rank was MG1, a rank I havent had in like 4 years. Even now, Im always soloqueing, but I got to MG2 yesterday. I have close to 3k hours I belive, so I only taught people who barley knew how to use a mouse was silver at this point.

It makes a lot of sense. I remember that when I was in the army, I could only play once a week. And I played wingman. I started from mg2 and I got to supreme while playing only 1 game a week and ranked up every week.

The weirdest encounter I've had with the rating system is back in 2014 when I was a silver. I topfragged a 15-15 draw on Cobblestone with a 30-bomb and somehow deranked to silver 3
I remember playing on assault (hostage map). It was really t sided. Once we were loosing 15:0 on CT side. But guess what. We comebacked to 15:15. That why it was removed from que.
Yeah, Hostage maps are absurdly T-sided. The worst of them (at least in Casual) is Agency, followed closely by Assault, then Italy. Office and Militia seem to be a little bit more balanced, but it still depends on how strong your CT team is.
For me its literally hell to get out of silver.. Out of my last 10 comps, i lost 8 of them.. in every game though, i have been top fragger with 35-45 kills in each game.. I just cant get out silver because exactly this is happening for the last 2 months..
If you worry too much about the rank you just going to tilt more when you lose/derank. I play with an IDGAF mindset (at least about the rank) and just focus on the games instead. Then rankups just happen.

I think a lot of people have stopped playing and the ranks have narrowed a lot. I stopped playing from ~2016 until recently and lost a lot of ranks, I don't feel like I got worse. It actually feels like I'm playing better and so are my opponents. I can even look back at some demos I saved all those years ago and see how awful the games were.
the issue with some team games is individual skill does matter, but in the case of a game this team based, its almost impossible to rank up unless you get the better teammates most of the time. None of this counts smurfs or cheaters of course, though theyre everywhere, especially in the lower ranks

The only reason I toss the bomb a lot is because I’m normally an entry/support. The friend that I mainly play with takes the other spot, because we can get good entry picks. Maybe that’s why I don’t rank up. I should become a full time AWPer and hog the bomb...
Just play whatever roll the team needs. I usually entry but if i see that my team is a bunch of fuckwits who cant tradefrag i will change roll and play support or lurker. Im also always queuing with a friend and if i have him behind me im never afraid to storm a site or go for risky plays so its fine. The more you play with your friend the better you will know each other. Train your coordination to split-push or clear a site together (clearing different angles but always be close enough to tradefrag) etc. Another great tip is to just relax. Dont spend 30 min on warmup, just to 10 min on a ffa server and then hop into a game and chill. Also take off your headset and breathe n relax if you ever get tilted, it really helps.
I usually play as a doubler, mainly an awper and a rifler, but sometimes my team needs to go in, this is where my SSG08 role is needed, I just shoot on the awper and run and shoot him again, until my teammate kills the awper and I pick up the awp, sometimes if I'm bored, I use Negev lmaooo, this way, I can insult lots of good player by using Negev the right way xD

Dude... I had situation where i rank up to ge, win 14 games in-row there, then lose 2 - derank. Then i was stuck in supreme for very long. Then i was winning, loosing some games, like playing neutral.... I had like 6 wins in row, i lost 2, won 1 and got ge... Like wtf. :D

Totally agree, have fun and play with the team, and you eventually get better I don’t care as much for ranking, I’m having lots of fun playing deathmatch or casual
8:56 PREACH! Especially with csgos economic factor. Losing a round or 2 can snowball into a "wtf this was an easy win". Every round is a new fight, a new battle, and even if ur wrong about each round mattering, it's a better mindset to have than just looking at the score and thinking it's a wrap (up or down).

I’m in gold nova 4 right now. I could be higher if I went back to improving my mechanical skills but tbh, at the moment I cant bother to do that, I’m having fun with noobs and playing for pure fun, university is already there to stress me out enough, a game can’t do that
me too, but the most frustrating thing in this rank is the teammates. Totally unpredictable and most of them don't know basic stuff (like buying freaking armor when u buy a gun, or managing your economy). Plus this rank is flooded with cheaters.

Man I bought the game in November. I reached silver elite master in March (I wasn't that kind of person who gives a shit about it's rank). I had to stop because of my exams. Now it's June I can finally play with my friends again. I lost my rank (as I expected) and I haven't got any reason to continue. All I wanted was just better than Silver man. And I tried it really hard but that stupid system. Glicko-2 means nothing to me when I won 6 games in a row than lost 1 and I deranked. Fuck this game
I'll put it simply, in matchmaking, the only two things that determine the skill group are: 1. Wins in a row 2. Winning against a team with higher ranks 3. Round wins MVP, k/d, score all have nothing to do with skill group. Those only get you more XP, for the ranks, but not the skill group.
btw guys u can join r/official csgo discord to get full partys. everyone in the server is pretty nice and good so u have no need to worry about solo queue anymore
I keep getting stuck in SE and SEM games as a S3, win, and then get put in a S1 to S2 game and lose, then get put back in SE and SEM. Like. CSGO has no clue where to put me and it's frustrating. I just wanna play with people my rank. That being said WarOwl your videos have been a blessing and I've improved leaps and bounds compared to where I was when I skipped the shortcuts and just put in the damn time to practice.
In South Africa we didn't have servers until like late 2014 if I remember correctly, but I used to sometimes play on EU and do well actually. However, when our servers came to SA I ranked up super quick because I focused on other things in the game before going into comp, like sound and movement on surf servers etc which was pretty cool. Always between LEM and Supreme since 2017 now
I have ranked up from silver elite to LE in the last 6 months. What has worked for me was follow the advice 9:59 - dont worry about ranking up, just have fun
Was a GN before. Then got deranked to S3. Then I got ranked up to SEM for only 2 weeks. I had 4 losing streak, and then after that, I won a match and then I ranked up to SEM. And I think it's because of my K/D/A were better than before. So I just focused on getting better performance and always cooperate with my teammates despite some of them were toxic. (Got matched against GNM with my GN friends and we defeated them) But it's based on my observation though.
Hey Warowl, I play this game occadionally for 2,5 years now and have seen a lot on my road to Global. at a certain Point I decided with my duo-queue buddy to create a whole New account and play every match together. The difference in is was that he was More of An entry fragger and I was More of a support player. He usually ended on top with 30+ kills and I mostly lacked behind with 10-20 frags, next to that I was also really inconsistent, with every now and then dropping a 30-bomb or making a low 5-10 kills per game. still we played all together until we reached DMG at the same time. it took is about 50 wins. Is this mere coincidence then?
@@cru3l525 I never thought you could get stuck at Silver II for 1000 hours. I only do solo q in my entire comp games and after getting a rank. I got Silver Elite or Master after that (I can't remember if it was SE or SEM but i got it after my first 10 wins). So I'm really confused, did you start from Silver I or deranked to Silver II?
Your final bit of advice is by far the best. The rating system is intentionally obfuscated and organic to prevent people from gaming the system. Supporting your team with nades and distractions might not win you many points, but it could win you rounds and games. There is also something to be said for trying to get a couple extra plants or defuses, but not in a greedy way that might lose you the round, or worse...
i played csgo for a while a year ago and when i started again a couple of days ago, i was put in a similar rank, which i think is too high for me i play a lot with people on a slightly higher skillgroup and got deranked twice in a game we won. in both games, i was on the lower half of the ranks of other people in the game and in both games i performed poorly, which was also obvious from the stats. since both games took part in one week, i doubt that this is the result of a general skill level shift, or due to a lot of people stopping to play.
honestly ive gotten from silver to ge on 3 accounts plus another 4 that hovered around smfc-le... never had an issue ranking up with consecutive wins apart from games following consecutive losses. that being said i HAVE ranked up on losses and ties, even at global. i have also deranked on a win at similar rank. at times ive gone from mg1 or lower up to smfc/global in one super long binge over a couple of days. this was done in a full esea premade with about a 10-1 win-loss. shortly after the rank update that caused mass deranks a couple years ago i decided to go from ge to smfc and back again for a test. took 5 losses in a row and one tie to derank. i deranked on the tie. about 2 days later i had 4 global friends from esea queue with me and we won 11 games in a row with no rankup for me. i placed top 3 every game, and first in 8/11 of them. previously i would have ranked up with those results so something definitely changed. anyways just figured id explain my experiences cuz not everything in this vid was correct.
A "very common" (could be rarer than I thought) theory on how the rating system works is using something similar to the elo system, however, instead of a score at the start and end of a game, it factors in every individual round in that game. For example, for the sake of ease, everyone starts with 1000 points at the start of a mm game (obviously everyone will be different but in a similar bracket.) The pistol round is fairly straight forward, pretty fair odds, however, some maps are CT or T sided and we know that some slightly favor others. So if you were a Terrorist on a pistol round on dust 2 and you win that round, you and your team get 10 points (this number changes per team mate based on their starting points and what they did that round). If you win on ct pistol you get about 12-14 points because it's a more T sided map. The next round, (assuming the T's won the pistol) the CT's are on an eco. The ct's didn't buy anything, all they have is 5 usp-s. The T's have armor, nades , guns ect. It calculates the T's chance of winning this round based on equipment value and ADR (average damage a round) of the T's players and CT players (It may be more complicated taking into account that the best player on the T side only bought armor and is using a usp where as the worse player on the T side bought full nades and an AK, we don't know). So the T's are about 90% sure to win this round, if they win, as expected, they get 2 points for winning the round, extra points are also added. (The person who planted gets an extra 2, you get 2 per kill, the mvp star gives you 5 ect similar to your points in game). If the CT's win however, the unlikely 10%, they are much more likely to get 20 points. this carries on the whole game. This accounts for mvps, weapon equipment value, map favor, ADR, kills, objectives, ect. The ranks are in a bracket and when you reach that bracket you rank up. Silver 1 (0-100 elo) silver 2 (101-200) ect. ect. If you topple over to the next bracket at the end of a game, you rank up, if you won the first half 14-1, and in that current time, you are in a higher bracket but then the game finishes 15-15 or 16-14, and you go back down inside your bracket, you will not rank up. This is how I have figured it, just an idea to explore.

For context, I (2300 hours 500ish wins) queue with my old teammate who also deranked (2000 hours 600ish wins), both of us consistently top frag, and find the occasional truly shit player, but both agree that the silvers we verse are far beyond the skill level they used to be.
William Leach I got from gold nova 1 to Eagle (mostly DMG) from like 2015-2018. Then I went away and stopped playing, or just played in the summers and vacations, so I stayed as a MGE mostly.
Then I didn’t play for almost a year, I came back recently and my rank was MG1, a rank I havent had in like 4 years. Even now, Im always soloqueing, but I got to MG2 yesterday. I have close to 3k hours I belive, so I only taught people who barley knew how to use a mouse was silver at this point.

Yeah, Hostage maps are absurdly T-sided. The worst of them (at least in Casual) is Agency, followed closely by Assault, then Italy. Office and Militia seem to be a little bit more balanced, but it still depends on how strong your CT team is.

If you worry too much about the rank you just going to tilt more when you lose/derank. I play with an IDGAF mindset (at least about the rank) and just focus on the games instead. Then rankups just happen.

I think a lot of people have stopped playing and the ranks have narrowed a lot. I stopped playing from ~2016 until recently and lost a lot of ranks, I don't feel like I got worse. It actually feels like I'm playing better and so are my opponents. I can even look back at some demos I saved all those years ago and see how awful the games were.

the issue with some team games is individual skill does matter, but in the case of a game this team based, its almost impossible to rank up unless you get the better teammates most of the time. None of this counts smurfs or cheaters of course, though theyre everywhere, especially in the lower ranks

The only reason I toss the bomb a lot is because I’m normally an entry/support. The friend that I mainly play with takes the other spot, because we can get good entry picks. Maybe that’s why I don’t rank up. I should become a full time AWPer and hog the bomb...

Just play whatever roll the team needs. I usually entry but if i see that my team is a bunch of fuckwits who cant tradefrag i will change roll and play support or lurker. Im also always queuing with a friend and if i have him behind me im never afraid to storm a site or go for risky plays so its fine. The more you play with your friend the better you will know each other. Train your coordination to split-push or clear a site together (clearing different angles but always be close enough to tradefrag) etc. Another great tip is to just relax. Dont spend 30 min on warmup, just to 10 min on a ffa server and then hop into a game and chill. Also take off your headset and breathe n relax if you ever get tilted, it really helps.
I usually play as a doubler, mainly an awper and a rifler, but sometimes my team needs to go in, this is where my SSG08 role is needed, I just shoot on the awper and run and shoot him again, until my teammate kills the awper and I pick up the awp, sometimes if I'm bored, I use Negev lmaooo, this way, I can insult lots of good player by using Negev the right way xD

Dude... I had situation where i rank up to ge, win 14 games in-row there, then lose 2 - derank. Then i was stuck in supreme for very long. Then i was winning, loosing some games, like playing neutral.... I had like 6 wins in row, i lost 2, won 1 and got ge... Like wtf. :D

8:56 PREACH! Especially with csgos economic factor. Losing a round or 2 can snowball into a "wtf this was an easy win". Every round is a new fight, a new battle, and even if ur wrong about each round mattering, it's a better mindset to have than just looking at the score and thinking it's a wrap (up or down).

Man I bought the game in November. I reached silver elite master in March (I wasn't that kind of person who gives a shit about it's rank). I had to stop because of my exams. Now it's June I can finally play with my friends again. I lost my rank (as I expected) and I haven't got any reason to continue. All I wanted was just better than Silver man. And I tried it really hard but that stupid system. Glicko-2 means nothing to me when I won 6 games in a row than lost 1 and I deranked. Fuck this game

I'll put it simply, in matchmaking, the only two things that determine the skill group are:
1. Wins in a row
2. Winning against a team with higher ranks
3. Round wins
MVP, k/d, score all have nothing to do with skill group. Those only get you more XP, for the ranks, but not the skill group.

I keep getting stuck in SE and SEM games as a S3, win, and then get put in a S1 to S2 game and lose, then get put back in SE and SEM. Like. CSGO has no clue where to put me and it's frustrating. I just wanna play with people my rank. That being said WarOwl your videos have been a blessing and I've improved leaps and bounds compared to where I was when I skipped the shortcuts and just put in the damn time to practice.

In South Africa we didn't have servers until like late 2014 if I remember correctly, but I used to sometimes play on EU and do well actually. However, when our servers came to SA I ranked up super quick because I focused on other things in the game before going into comp, like sound and movement on surf servers etc which was pretty cool. Always between LEM and Supreme since 2017 now

Was a GN before. Then got deranked to S3. Then I got ranked up to SEM for only 2 weeks. I had 4 losing streak, and then after that, I won a match and then I ranked up to SEM. And I think it's because of my K/D/A were better than before. So I just focused on getting better performance and always cooperate with my teammates despite some of them were toxic. (Got matched against GNM with my GN friends and we defeated them) But it's based on my observation though.

Hey Warowl, I play this game occadionally for 2,5 years now and have seen a lot on my road to Global.
at a certain Point I decided with my duo-queue buddy to create a whole New account and play every match together. The difference in is was that he was More of An entry fragger and I was More of a support player. He usually ended on top with 30+ kills and I mostly lacked behind with 10-20 frags, next to that I was also really inconsistent, with every now and then dropping a 30-bomb or making a low 5-10 kills per game.
still we played all together until we reached DMG at the same time. it took is about 50 wins. Is this mere coincidence then?

Your final bit of advice is by far the best. The rating system is intentionally obfuscated and organic to prevent people from gaming the system. Supporting your team with nades and distractions might not win you many points, but it could win you rounds and games.
There is also something to be said for trying to get a couple extra plants or defuses, but not in a greedy way that might lose you the round, or worse...

i played csgo for a while a year ago and when i started again a couple of days ago, i was put in a similar rank, which i think is too high for me
i play a lot with people on a slightly higher skillgroup and got deranked twice in a game we won.
in both games, i was on the lower half of the ranks of other people in the game and in both games i performed poorly, which was also obvious from the stats.
since both games took part in one week, i doubt that this is the result of a general skill level shift, or due to a lot of people stopping to play.

honestly ive gotten from silver to ge on 3 accounts plus another 4 that hovered around smfc-le... never had an issue ranking up with consecutive wins apart from games following consecutive losses.
that being said i HAVE ranked up on losses and ties, even at global. i have also deranked on a win at similar rank. at times ive gone from mg1 or lower up to smfc/global in one super long binge over a couple of days. this was done in a full esea premade with about a 10-1 win-loss.
shortly after the rank update that caused mass deranks a couple years ago i decided to go from ge to smfc and back again for a test. took 5 losses in a row and one tie to derank. i deranked on the tie. about 2 days later i had 4 global friends from esea queue with me and we won 11 games in a row with no rankup for me. i placed top 3 every game, and first in 8/11 of them. previously i would have ranked up with those results so something definitely changed.
anyways just figured id explain my experiences cuz not everything in this vid was correct.

A "very common" (could be rarer than I thought) theory on how the rating system works is using something similar to the elo system, however, instead of a score at the start and end of a game, it factors in every individual round in that game. For example, for the sake of ease, everyone starts with 1000 points at the start of a mm game (obviously everyone will be different but in a similar bracket.) The pistol round is fairly straight forward, pretty fair odds, however, some maps are CT or T sided and we know that some slightly favor others. So if you were a Terrorist on a pistol round on dust 2 and you win that round, you and your team get 10 points (this number changes per team mate based on their starting points and what they did that round). If you win on ct pistol you get about 12-14 points because it's a more T sided map. The next round, (assuming the T's won the pistol) the CT's are on an eco. The ct's didn't buy anything, all they have is 5 usp-s. The T's have armor, nades , guns ect. It calculates the T's chance of winning this round based on equipment value and ADR (average damage a round) of the T's players and CT players (It may be more complicated taking into account that the best player on the T side only bought armor and is using a usp where as the worse player on the T side bought full nades and an AK, we don't know). So the T's are about 90% sure to win this round, if they win, as expected, they get 2 points for winning the round, extra points are also added. (The person who planted gets an extra 2, you get 2 per kill, the mvp star gives you 5 ect similar to your points in game). If the CT's win however, the unlikely 10%, they are much more likely to get 20 points. this carries on the whole game. This accounts for mvps, weapon equipment value, map favor, ADR, kills, objectives, ect. The ranks are in a bracket and when you reach that bracket you rank up. Silver 1 (0-100 elo) silver 2 (101-200) ect. ect. If you topple over to the next bracket at the end of a game, you rank up, if you won the first half 14-1, and in that current time, you are in a higher bracket but then the game finishes 15-15 or 16-14, and you go back down inside your bracket, you will not rank up.
This is how I have figured it, just an idea to explore.
