People always say “there’s nothing wrong with getting plastic surgery” but when an idols gets “accused” of getting work done their fans get defensive and angry and try to deny it (when in most situations it’s almost always clear that the idol did get work done). If there is nothing wrong with plastic surgery why don’t ppl act like it? Why do ppl care so much in the first place about plastic surgery and feel the need to defend their idols against plastic surgery as if it’s this awful scandal. Many idols get work done and it isn’t a secret at this point. I’m tired of ppl bringing it up or ppl getting angry when someone happens to point it out.
It isn’t this great big achievement to be born naturally pretty, it’s not like you have to actually do anything, you’re just born that way. So fans being “proud” of their idol’s natural good looks and feeling the need to defend them from plastic surgery is really weird to me.

Am I the only one that feels kind of relieved when I know that an idol has had surgery or that it's highly likely? It makes me feel so much better that it's basically impossible to be born looking that way and I don't feel as bad about my own looks. As K-pop is built on the foundation of good-looking and talented people and humans are appearance-fixated by nature, it's totally understandable why an idol would want to use surgery to permanently change their face or tweak it a bit to hit perfection. I'm still a fan, it's not like I think they're less pretty or ugly because they got surgery but it makes me relieved.
I also try not to feel too bad though because part of an idol's job is to maintain their appearance. We do beauty and skincare to look good but it's generally not a job requirement. I'm sure most idols have very strict skincare and a lot of them have mentioned having dermatologists and keeping their figure is also part of the job (although it shouldn't be sadly). They'll crash diet or start working out loads before a comeback so the appearance you see during comebacks and in MVs are temporary anyway, lots of idols have said they eat nothing the day before MVs and photoshoots so they don't look bloated. It's just sad, really.

    • @abr4xas
      @abr4xas 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

i agree. even though it's more "socially accepted" to be attractive, it's really not our fault if we're born with a face that doesn't fit the beauty standard. also, one of my faves have said that they basically eat nothing 3-7 days before a comeback and once it's over they gain all the weight back!

It’s really a stupid subject to talk about. I mean just cause they’re natural doesn’t really compliment them. It’s not like they put any work or effort into it, it’s literally just the parents good genes. And if they got work done, good for them. At least they feel more confident now. Being natural is ideal, but doesn’t prove anything about the actual person. Focus on the actual talent rather than arguing about a nose shape. Oh and a last thing is don’t expect everyone to look amazing, it’s not like you look exactly like the standards.

What an idol does with their face or body literally should not be any of our business, and if they’re happy with it, why should we care? Plastic surgery isn’t something that should be looked down upon if it makes people more confident with themselves, and anyways there’s better things to focus on than whether or not an idol got plastic surgery.

The only idols I can think of who’ve stated that they’re natural is Blackpink. They’ve said on numerous variety shows that their contracts state that they’re not allowed to get surgery, which is clearly not the case because the members have had visible work done (nose jobs, eyelid surgery etc.). This is when the conversation about surgery bothers me, because it’s the blatant lies about naturalness that make people think that their looks are attainable, when they aren’t. It’s not the girls faults, because they probably were told to say it, but it perpetuates the stigma against plastic surgery

About getting a nose job, I don't understand why people get so angry. Sometimes getting it "fixed" is due to a breathing problem, my mum and aunt had a nose job because they couldn't breathe correctly and not because of their looks. Even I have a friend who has a similar nose shape that many Idols have and he had told me his nose was useless because of how dificult it was for him to breathe, this lead me to assume that probably some idols also have this kind of problems and thats why they get nose jobs ( of course there are many other cases where it's just an appearence matter)

I totally agree with you but I’d like to add something: makeup (and face tapes). Ofc it’s not possible to change your whole appearance or get a smaller face without having plastic surgery but makeup can actually do a lot. I can admit that my ult maybe got something done but sometimes I see people comparing a picture of an idol with a full face of makeup to a predebut picture from 5 to 10 years ago where they wear little to no makeup.
I can guarantee you that using it and lifting the face the right way can work wonders for someone’s appearance. Eyebrow shapes can influence how a face is perceived and mascara and eyeliner can make eyes appear much bigger. Love these three, but I need to mention them here: why aren’t male idols mentioned anywhere?
Like Kim Taehyung (BTS) obviously got a forehead reduction/lowering of hairline, and it was probably in the era of the bandanas.
Most idols get lip fillers too, as their lip sizes change(?) overtime (in the matter of months). Some lips look too pouty and smooth, like Hwang Hyunjin (Stray Kids).
I think BTS’ Jimin has lip fillers too? Like people with big lips can get lip filler too, to enhance the pout.
Lee Felix (Stray Kids) obviously had either buccal fat removal, or a jawline reduction. His face is almost long now, like slim, whereas he had an almost more square’ish face. I know he lost weight and all, but you don’t lose bone and you cannot target facial fat specifically :I

random but i'm lowkey confused how no one is talking about *itzy's yuna's nose job* that she seemed to have had sometime in the past few months. it's subtle but still quite obvious if you compare her nose from debut - not shy era to award show season era late 2020 and itzy's newer content. her nose tip is smaller/more pointy, less bulky and her nostrils are higher. before anyone comes for me, yuna is my ult (how you could guess with my name lol) so this is not a hate comment and i don't want to shame her for that, i just noticed it. and my feelings are mixed tbh. like everyone can do with their own body what they want to. but firstly the fact that yuna had it when she was only 16/around her 17th birthday idk. like she isn't even an adult yet and fully "finished"? and yes, plastic surgery is legal (and also not that unusual) in south korea for underaged people if they get the permission from their parents. and secondly i just really hope that she herself wanted it and didn't feel pressured by the company and/or something/someone else. cause yuna did mention in the past that she thinks her nose looks "like a mountain" (i think she said it on weekly idol idk it was on a variety show). plus there have been some shitty articles in south korea talking about how yuna's visuals "faded" and that she was prettier when she debuted. umm hello? wtf though... being the visual must be pretty hard tbh especially for underaged idols, they always have to look their best. so i just hope yuna really did it for herself and not because of other people's opinions

Ooohhh this is about to be long but I gotta get this off my mind now! I completely agree with what you said. I really have no problem with it mostly because the reason they do it is that it's normalized in SK. When this conversation gets out of hand to me is when the Kpop beauty standards start to be put on western female artists. This is something I have been seeing a lot lately on Twitter and it's getting gross. I remember like 3 months ago there was a long thread from a multi-girl group stan and the whole thread was comparing her favorite Kpop girl group idols to really popular western female artists. In the tweet the person was saying things like Dua Lipa has ugly skin and her fav has natural clean skin, Ariana has a crooked face and her fav has a perfect jawline, saying Doja cat is to fat to be pretty and said her idol was perfect because she has better-toned legs, said meg the stallion was too dark and her fav has pure pale skin. And the Meg the stallion one literally made me angry. Meg the stallion is an African American woman how can you make the comparison!? Then started putting up pictures of western female artist stretch marks and calling them fat and gross. And they mentioned many many more western female artist and they were really nasty body shaming and slut-shame type comments. I thought it was a troll account but the account had been opened since like 2010 and had over like 700ish followers. And what was worse was that a lot of girl group stans retweeted it and said things like “exactly! If these ugly western bitches would work as hard as my fav idols they would be pretty!” or one said something like “This is why my fav idol deserves western success more than ugly Lizzo! My fav is natural, skinny, pretty and can dance” like I love Kpop and I love girl groups but I will literally never abandon my Western Queens! I listen to Kpop for fun vibes but when I listen to western female music I'm listening for multiple things not only the fun vibes but some artist I'm listening for the message, and the fact that some of them are not all the same shape or have the same skin type or skin color. In western pop it's now more loving your body and women being free with their bodies and no slut-shaming. Like the individuality. But we all know it's not like that in Kpop yet. The Kpop companies are now letting go of cute concepts and switching to “confident girl crush” concepts to reach a western audience but I do not get the same level of conference from girl crush Kpop song as I do from say a Lizzo song or meg the stallion song. That was long but had to say it. Loved the video! ❤️
Almost forgot to mention in this is that people all over the world get cosmetic surgery done and for different reasons because beauty standards are different all around the world. So to compare the different standards like one is better than the others is unfair.

A lot of people in the comments section are saying it's ok to do a plastic surgery if it makes you feel more confident but.... The thing is people don't have to feel unconfident without one, it IS a problem to betray plastic surgeries as something completely fine. Because doing so you're never gonna get the point when changing your features in order to be accepted by unrealistic beauty standards will come to an end. Like, we shouldn't blame anyone for getting their nose done and stuff, but we also SHOULD NOT forget the industry of plastic surgery was made not for helping people with low self-esteem to become more confident, it was made to instill the certain standards among people (mostly women) to make them waste their money and not let them live without fear being judged for their real faces (because it's a great way to control them and it works, as you can see). Idk, just don't make it seem like doing surgeries is perfectly fine, it's a harmtful behavior, I guess that's my point.

ok it's true, natural or made it beauty, both are fine, my main problem that many don't understand, is that I feel that in the world of kpop, and fame and all this. Many actors, artists, idols WANTS to fit the standards cuz they feel insecure. Not because they really want to, come on!
It is not the same when you want to have surgery but your security is there, when you have no security in yourself.

  • @nicolewagner6549

The thing about these beauty standards is that- apart from plastic surgery- there is nothing you can do to "achieve" them. You can't shrink your nose though exercise, or obtain a V line facial shape though hard work and dedication. Practice does not make perfect. Your face is what it is.
The fact that someone doesn't naturally fit the beauty mould should not be a deep dark secret. Nor should natural beauty be treated as a moral virtue. It's just luck.

  • @freeandsings2029
    @freeandsings2029 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I think what most people don’t understand about plastic surgery, is what it means to get it done. Everybody saying, “it’s not a bad thing!” “if it helps them feel confident why not?”. Literally, the whole point of plastic surgery is to fit the beauty standards of others. Nobody just wakes up and thinks, “hmm, I need a bigger nose.” No, they saw somebody with a pretty face and a bigger nose and now wants to have the same look. Plastic surgery is all about “fixing” parts on your body just so you won’t be judged by others, so no it’s not a good thing. It’s unnecessary, a waste of money and time, and CAN cause health risks in the future. Plastic surgery should only be needed for medical procedures, like trouble breathing through your nose or having a hard time seeing.

  • @Ash-hk6lh

i think the issue is that we all care too much. i personally think that most idols have minimal plastic surgery (a little bit here, a little bit there, but nothing drastically appearance changing) but the truth is, that we all need to accept, is that we shouldn't really care as much. my fav got a nose job? okay? like... that has no relevance to anything. getting upset and defensive isn't going to change anything, just as accusing everyone of having it isn't going to change anything. if they got plastic surgery, it isn't our business. plus there's HUGE double standards, since pretty much every western singer has a slight lip filler or face lift or nose job, and nobody seems to care nearly as much as kpop stans do.
the one issue i have with surgery in the industry is the possibility of coerced/forced surgery, that the idols didn't want to get or were reluctant about. that's a discussion we need to have just as we discuss other issues within the industry, but almost never do.

Tbh I don't know cause I'm myself pretty defensive when it comes to this. you won't believe that I got triggered when the screen showed my idol while you were talking even though I knew that it wasn't pointed at anyone. the standards are indeed too high. it messes up people's confidence like...nowdays people want more than their partner has, while the person is pretty average and ok. however, I hate people assuming and judging a specific person so I respect you for not doing that. Welp I hundred percent hate to admit, but some of the idols I favor might have done it. we can't ignore the hate received for doing plastic surgery though, it's their body and they still get hate for it. clearly there's some lines. but someone like Nayeon or Jennie(just two examples) look the same to me and it actually can make me believe that it's puberty changes. but then I still don't know. I think it's safe to say fans love their idols and dim them as perfection And they'll change their opinions and standards just for their idol to fit in.(they might not show hate and support but would be bothered inside, me as an example). for the visual, I just find whoever is graceful, beautiful, pretty or gorgeous the way they are without exception for the facial. can't have standards for that.

Some people need to mind their own business, South Korea is the capital of Plastic Surgery, most K-pop idols get something done, even braces can be considered a type of surgery lol. It's funny how idols get attacked for being "fake" & "plastic" it's none of your business why are people so mad

One thing I never hear brought up in plastic surgery discussions is the idea that the "art" is only as good as it's "canvas" ("art" in the sense that cosmetic surgery is not only a medical skill but technically an art in itself). I hate comparing irl people to objects but I haven't got a better comparison, unfortunately.
A lot of ppl seem to want to defend their faves from plastic surgery rumors/accusations because they think it's others implying that their faves aren't naturally beautiful but tbh, it's hard to make someone look almost otherworldly-perfect (as most idols are) with surgery if they aren't already halfway there naturally lol

Sometimes the childhood/adolescent photos comparisons to fully formed adults are inaccurate to use as an identifier too. In my opinion, to be attractive, skin and hair(facial and head) care are much more important than the physical structure of the face. No offense but I find it unattractive when most of the stars have the same eyes and nose image, check out the Miss Korea pageant, they all look like an advertisement for the plastic surgery clinics. Having lived there for a while, it is really difficult to distinguish natural beauty between people who are considered beautiful. As for males, as long as one has enough testosterone, the jawline would naturally fill/square out, so less men choose to do any plastic surgery when they see their adult selves. Personally, I tried laser hair removal a couple of times for my face/beard(should have just left it in hindsight, even though it grew at the rate of a bear.) When I was in the clinic, the nurses and doctors asked who did the plastic surgery for my face, they found the straight nose/high bridge coupled with small single eyelid, square jaw compilation astoundingly weird. Obviously I didn't do any, but it was an enlightening experience on what they judge faces on for beauty standards. But don't be angry at the idols for choosing to go that route, they are under extreme pressure to stay attractive and climb the entertainment ladder, particularly the females are judged very harshly. And their careers are relatively short too, which makes them do things most of us would not need to do.

I feel like people are a bit obsessed with beauty, being naturally beautiful is just luck, why would you send hate to someone because they were a bit unlucky when their face was being made? Also beauty, although it has a scientific side is just an opinion. For example, there are good and bad songs that are judged by a professional so we know there are good and bad songs but at the end of the day it's just an opinion and I think it works the same with beauty as well, right? I don't know though lol someone please tell me if this makes sense

Honestly i don't understand why people make a big deal out of it when it comes to idols getting plastic surgery i mean i m a kpop fan for more than 2 years probably i probably noticed a lots of kpop idols have plastic surgery I mean South korea has the highest ratio of plastic surgery per capital worldwide. Beauty standards in korea are really strict. South korea is well known for having strict beauty standards. Even many male idols who have plastic surgery too so keep in mind don't keep obsessing over their looks.

I’m a moa and I admit without any problem that taehyun probably had something done to his nose because there’s literally nothing wrong with it. When I see people being aggressively defensive and deny it even tho it’s pretty obvious (just took at his pre debut pics,it’s not because of puberty) I just shake my head. Why treat plastic surgery as something bad?? why can’t we just normalize it? he looked good both ways but denying he had ps just seems disrespectful towards him, like if he did something wrong.

Also it is important to say: when talking about surgery, this is not the age of butched lips and shaping the bone etc anymore. So many noninvasive things, so many filter, not-everlasting results are possible so people who had surgery dont look like Katie Price anymore.

plastic surgery is totally fine. the only thing i worry about is that sometimes plastic surgery can affect your singing... but it’s really up to each idol, plastic surgery isn’t a bad thing at all! 💕

For me, I never compared myself to any beauty standard bc I learnt at an early age that it was made to make people feel superior/worse about themselves. Also, I'm not even east asian so I can't compare.

Maybe the nose thing when idols grow into their features because I had a bigger nose when I was young, now my face fits it perfectly. Like I grew into it. But maybe it’s just different genetics Idk it’s just my input
