You have the food and water right, you need to tie it between the two

♥️♥️ I’m apart of ffa showing my first calf ( I usually show hogs) and I wanted to ask if you have any advice on halter breaking? I’ve heard that you can tie them to a strong fence and let them pull on it for a while until they stop. I’ve also heard you can keep a lead on them when they walk around so if they step on it, their head will be pulled.

We have heard of all of these methods along with many others as well.
Everyone you talk to will probably give you a different answer about how they do it. The method that we use works for us and we have videos that show it working. We like to pen them up halter them and let them calm down and then remove it on the first day you work them. On the second day we pen them up halter them and ask them to take a step by talking to them and applying steady pressure on the halter. Just remember it’s not a tug match. We get them used to the halter and leading before we start to tie them up. Then we will increase the time they are tied as we get closer to show time so that they can get used to being tied up like they would be at the show.
To us the biggest key to working with animals is routine and making it a positive experience. We want to try to keep the animal as calm as possible while we are working with it no matter what animal cow, pig, goat, chicken, or even horses when we had them. Then it makes things easier on the person handling them as well as the animal for things like showing, loading into trailers, vet visits, and even rotating pastures.
Good luck showing your calf and feel free to ask us any other questions questions that you might have.

So much easier to tie her to a post and let the post do the work. Once she has learnt that the halter won't give, it makes it easier for the human handler

There are multiple ways to get animals uses to the halter. Some methods are more stressful than others. A person has to decide to use the methods that they are comfortable with and that will produce the end results that they are looking for.
This methods works well for us, so that is why we do it this way.

11:45 I dont get it....why dont you overpower the calf until it settles down? Once calm you give it some slack, it it fights again then repeat until it remains calm on the slack. I mean you're a big guy, wouldn't take much effort to overpower the calf.

Can we see some showing tips for bucket bottle calf’s

We can give some showing tips on calves, but we don’t raise any bucket bottle calves.
Biggest thing is to make each interaction with the calf a positive one.
