Great shout, but I'd imagine that F1 takes up a lot of his time and he's so devoted to F1 that he'll probably be too old to present TG when he finishes. Just Chris Harris replacing that nobhead Evans would be a significant upgrade.
I think this shows just how far beyond our road cars an F1 car is. Some of us dream of driving an F1 car but in reality would not get past the first corner, let alone as far as Chris did. Big respect for the guys who drive these monsters - even the ones who never win.....
truthpig Most people should be try other open wheel cars to build there skills to a point where they could drive an F1 car successfully. I am currently on that path.
@@projectjt3149 Open wheel cars have a far different characteristics. I have already driven an F1 and yes open wheel cars do help. F3 cars and Formula ford do help. A GT3 car will help you learn GT cars.

the sound of that machine is devilish. dont be too hard on yourself for spinning out you just tried to tame the devil no one can do it first try out with cold track temps.
Sorry that is false. The ECU will send a signal to the throttle body to match RPMS with the gear box speed, but it still isn't a perfect match- just close. There is still a driveline shock due to the engine being engaged... because the rev's aren't ever matched perfectly. It's called PID controlling. (Proportional-integral-derivative)
one thing for sure now i seen the respect C Harris has for Brundle I have respect for him, he is not cocky like some car presenters n he appreciates F1 drivers for their skills n ability well done Chris humbleness is the way to greatness
Ryan White Ryan White "v6 vacuum cleaner" - it's so obvious you never heard an F1 car in person and are judging the sound by your shitty 5 dollar headphones.
Yeah, not much chance of holding that in a smokey drift...... It just spat him off in a split second, and that's with traction control set to max..... scary shit right there.
Brundle is a le mans winner to in 1990. I like Brundle alot. Can tell he's a genuinely a nice guy, even if he dose name drop at any given moment lol. Adds to his character and more for it. Lol
very true but at certain tracks such as Silverstone having less downforce makes it quicker during quali this year they were thrashing the 04 qualifying record every lap
Chris here is talking about power to waight ratio. In case of Veyron it's arround 500 bhp per ton where F1 car has over 1500 bhp per ton and since 1500 is 3 times more than 500 Veyron would have to have 3 times more power than it has = over 3000 bhp.
You didn't read my comment. I never said you have to rev-match. I said the ECU does rev match but there is still driveline shock because the match isn't perfect. The solenoid for shifting is usually PID controlled.
@seroyer2 I'm not entirely sure, but I assume back when the gearboxes were H-Pattern and had foot operated clutches on changes, they were matching on downshifts.
There's a reason their lap-times are currently slower. The new V6 F1 cars have less downforce than before and a more ferocious power-delivery than before. If anything the newer cars are harder to drive as fast as the older 2.4 V8s
thedungun The fastest lap in (monza 2005) was around 1:21, this year was around 1:28, 7 seconds faster per lap. That means that almost any F1 car of 2005 could easily *twice lap the Mercedes* of 2014 over the race.
Amazing stuff. One of the best things any lover of driving/racing could do in their lifetime. This is the circuit they should've put Richard Hammond on in the Renault, not that tiny 1-mile 5-corner Stowe circuit.
I've driven things that will willingly spin out under throttle, and that thing must be incredibly wild. Wow. I can't imagine how shaky a person can be after tooling around in one of these.
So the Jaguar R5 was a 2004 F1 car? Love that V10 sound! This was when I watched F1 religiously. Interest definitely waned after they switched to the V8 and lost all interest when they changed to a turbo V6 :(
You can still spin with T/C. But these cars are just so sensative and soo powerful. Even just supercars are crazy powerful enough. I remember watching an interview with a rich fella and he was explaining a crash he had in his Ferrari F430 where as he downchanged he flicked the T/C off. The jump in revs from downchanging - coupled with no T/C - was enough to spin the rear wheels and send the ass of the car out sideways into the kurb just like what happened to this guy. And that was up a hill to.
Actually the veyron should have 3000 hp in order to keep up with a v10 f1 car. He understated the f1 car. The Veryron weighs 1888 kg and has 1000hp. F1 v10 weighs around 550 kg and has 870hp. Do the math.
The torque is so violent, TC can't correct that much. These are race cars so the goal of TC isn't just helping anyone who fail to keep on the road I imagine
Can you do the vehicle weight in kilo and pounds please? Us American gearheads have to always do conversion formulas. It would go pretty far in us understanding the power to weight ratios. Thanks.🏎🏎🏎
Accelerative? I think that was the wrong word. A buggati can accelerate to 100km/h slightly quicker than an F1 I heard - without needing 2000hp. I think he meant power to weight ratio.
That turn is really challenging when you dont have a car properly set and/or out of temperature. It's common to spin there ,,, Remember Felipe Massa and other drivers did spin there too... if he changed gears more softly to control the power and step on the gas properly(with the wheel in the straight position) it would help transferring all the horse powers to the ground without spinning. Then in the following laps he could puish harder
You can only put so much horsepower to the ground from standstill. Rolling times you could expect the F1 to absolutely cream the Veyron. Not that it matters as this is pure racing while the Bugatti is a refined road car...
I never knew F1 drivers had a clutch on the wheel. I thought it was just simple shifting. That adds a whole new level of difficulty. I'm sure motorcycle drivers might find it a bit easier but damn, I wouldn't even be able to concentrate on the road.
Funny! I watched Part2 of this series first, and I was thinking, "Christ! Chris Harris is no mean (average) driver - HE CAN DRIVE - and he's just pootling about Silverstone; makes one think just how good unsung heroes like Martin Brundle are..." And here he is, the very fellow! ;o) Just goes to show how mightily impressive Lewis Hamilton's 1st and 2nd years in F1 were.
"We'll send a young brave one out first and if he comes back..."
Gotta love racing drivers' gallows humour :D
I could listen to Brundle and Harris all day long. Just brilliant.
Martin brundle would have been a decent choice to present top gear with Chris Harris
Great shout, but I'd imagine that F1 takes up a lot of his time and he's so devoted to F1 that he'll probably be too old to present TG when he finishes. Just Chris Harris replacing that nobhead Evans would be a significant upgrade.
i know this is 5 years late, but martin was a guest on chris's podcast called collecting cars. i can highly recommend it, it's a right laugh

OMG that was awesome!!! Brundle is classic. And Harris is all of us. Getting to drive an amazing car, and not wanting to stall or bin it. Epic ;O)
Sorry that is false.

v6 vacuum cleaner happened
Back when F1 cars had half the torque and traction control.

@derbigpr500
It's quite obvious that you haven't stood next to a track back when they revved above 18K rpm. I have.
I could listen to Martin talking all day =)

Love the start, he treats Chris heaps well
No it's true, you don't rev-match manually in those cars. I drive Formula Renault and no one ever rev-matches.
Fair play for flooring it haha ! That must have been an amazing experience

at the end... why did he spin out with traction control on??? no heat in the tyres or track condition?
Watching this in 2020 it should be re uploaded in better res
Why would they have a session in weather that cold? Kind of crazy!
Autocar, Ive just switched on to these videos and so far theyre great, but PLEASE sort the sound quality out.
Chris should drive the new F1's - they are about 5 or 6 secs slower. Great for learners.

You're right but 2005 F1 were some of the fastest ever, But I was going on 2013 lap times. Sorry for the disagreement and have a good day sir.

Why is the resolution so low?
The video was published 14 years ago - 1080p wasn’t even really a consumer-level thing yet.
Wow, that was out of control, i see what you mean with the tyre tempriture, daaaym!

So that's how easy it is to spin it even with traction control up max? Interesting.

I was amazed at the fact he didnt stall it lol

Whereas Harris always says - "lets think about it for a minute.."

which f1 car is this?
lets not fight .. I just think Martin Brundle is an experienced and well-adjusted commentator. You watch the F1 on TV ?
F1 on tonight anyways, should be a good one - Mark Webber 7th on the grid - 10:40pm - chn10
