  • Short Video on Removing Apple's PSU and running off USB-C power.
    Keep in mind that Load was just using Geekbench. If you load more, it may go over the wattage (under 12v selection) of the USB-C board.
    See our other videos where do detail getting the Pos/neg leads to the Motherboard.

    Do you still need a the dc regulator if you only want to build in a usb-c board?

    Thanks Mike! Waited for that one, guess I'll upgrade the Mini then :D Wasn't sure about the power draw but yea looks promising! Thank you for your work!

      Did you also add a battery? Would you mind sharing your result?

    Can I just put the USB-C port and a 12V battery in parallel so that it charges the battery while it provides power and changes its power source to battery when I pull the usb c connection?

    what about using the usbc board with 20v output and behind that a step down converter to 12v for more power, running it from a 100w power bank? also, would you recommend to put some sort of filter?

      Snazzylabs talked about this, look up his video about making the Mac mini "mini". As for Power Bank, it'll work, it'll all just come down to how much capacity (time) you'll get from it.

    I have a bit of a crazy idea to try, a white 2010 MacBook polycarbonate, running an m1 or m2 Mac mini logic board with an internal battery, charged by USB-C.

    Hi, does this run sustained on only 11.7v 1.8A (21W)? I thought it needed about 30W.

    • @mikegyverComputer
      @mikegyverComputer  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, we just ran with Geekbench to get some early estimates, however it's without any other loads at the same time. The 11.7v was under just Geekbench load. The voltage will go back up to 12ish volts without load.

    On amazon some reviews say that this board resets its settings when power is lost. Is this true?

    Mike, you’re a blessing from heaven and we’ll take your godly wisdom in any form, synth voice or what have you! Plus, Apple will not be able to find/kill you for reducing their potential sales and making their customers happy 😉

    use AI voice they are amazing sounding just go down the youtube rabit hole of AI voices.... you can even make one that has your voice but then you can just do text to voice. OR just pick anyvoice you want.

  • @gpmelendez

    You should try other AI voices and see which sounds better for you

  • @DisgruntledPigumon
    @DisgruntledPigumon ปีที่แล้ว

    The AI voice is fine. There are some people who try sounding like “Americans” but they get it all wrong and it’s very hard to listen to. All the intonation and inflections are in the wrong places and I have to turn the sound off and just watch subtitles. So, AI voices are good for that reason.
    As far as the videos, it seems you never show the final result. Just “it works” and done. I’d like to see it actually plugged into a monitor without a power cord and working. Or in the case of the battery, I’d like to see it with nothing plugged in and using an iPad as a screen. Could you show it?
    Also, in this video, does it mean you can run the Mac mini from a battery pack?

      Hi, thanks for your feedback. I thought we did that here: th-cam.com/video/_YYnS6BVMPg/w-d-xo.html

    • @DisgruntledPigumon
      @DisgruntledPigumon ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mikegyverComputer That one is a bit unclear. There’s a monitor hooked up to something, with cords going under some cloth…. and then a Mac mini with some cords plugged in and then they get unplugged. We don’t see the monitor anymore, we just hear some sound and see an unplugged Mac mini. I could make the same video without even having the Mac mini modded or powered on.
      A flat table, an iPad with no cords attached, a Mac mini with no cords attached streaming to the iPad, and then maybe plugging in a usb on the Mac mini that you see mount on the iPad’s screen…. That would be at least semi believable.

    • @mikegyverComputer
      @mikegyverComputer  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh I see you mean in terms of trust. Got it. I would think showing led would be enough. And audio playing from unit itself. That coupled with glow of monitor going off when unplugging USBc cable. And honestly hacking just the led to stay on would be even more troublesome. Along with all the other things to fake it would be more work😮. But stay tuned.

    • @DisgruntledPigumon
      @DisgruntledPigumon ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mikegyverComputer Yeah I don’t mean to be questioning what you did, I’m super excited by it so I would actually try doing it. But if 1% chance it’s just fake and I ruin my Mac, I’d be so sad…
      Well, I apologize if I sounded harsh, and that I’m mistrusting…. It’s really amazing and I think I would really want to attempt this.
      One thing I wasn’t sure about, is this replacing the ability to use the main cord? But you can instead power it with a DC adapter while charging the battery?
      The idea that I could unplug, stick the Mac in my bag with my iPad, then go to some cafe and keep working on projects…. It’s what I dreamed of.

    this is kinda dumb, if you want a portable mac mini, get a macbook, air or pro 13 inch, they have the same chip, and you can use it wherever since it has everything integrated, if you want to use it as a desktop computer, it is actually worse now since you have to have yet another power adapter on your desk or floor so it doesn't make any sense to me. if anyone wants the "but what if i already had it and want a portable one" sell it, get a macbook, "but what if the power supply failed" just get a mac mini PSU from ebay or something.

      M2 Mac air is double in price in comparison to m2 mini

    • @djinnibiza

      For me it makes sense, it is to reduce a portable Mac to the minimum size and at the lowest possible cost, make it the size of an iPhone and that you can carry all this power chip in a pocket, the possibilities are incredible. For you to understand, there are thousands of "Mini PC" on the market, look at Amazon, but it still doesn't exist on Mac, unless you make it for yourself. I use the Mac Mini in my work controlled by an iPad Mini and that it can be lighter and smaller is a dream for me.

    • @djinnibiza
      @djinnibiza ปีที่แล้ว

      Apple has to reduce the size of the Mac Mini, make a new design and create more possibilities for expansion. but he doesn't want to do it, he continues with the same design he wanted more than 10 years ago. These adaptations make it lighter, more current and super cheap!

    • @djinnibiza
      @djinnibiza ปีที่แล้ว

      Another thing I don't like the Macbook Air or Pro is because you always have to be connected with USB dongles that constantly fail, on the other hand, everything is already integrated in the Mac Mini, is great!

      We have users/customers working in remote office environment (RV's) that require running on efficient DC power (vs using an generator/inverter). We also have users with a headless Mac minis in remote locations running scripts.
