  • Thailand is working to help dial down tensions in Myanmar by engaging with Myanmar's military regime as well as ethnic armed groups. Clashes between both sides have shown no signs of easing. A high-level delegation is visiting the Thai-Myanmar border town of Mae Sot to assess the increasingly tense situation. Thai Foreign Minister Parnpree Bahiddha-nukara has visited the region twice in less than two weeks. He was joined by Thailand's interior and defence ministers. May Wong reports from Mae Sot.

Thailand, along with several other nations in ASEAN, embodies the very essence of dictatorship, devoid of democratic principles. This unfortunate reality undermines the credibility of ASEAN as an entity. The intent of Thailand in the grand scheme of things concerning the Myanmar border is glaring: it's a complicit actor in enabling the oppressive regime led by Min Aung Hlai, a figure utterly unyielding to the desires of the Myanmar populace. This junta, fixated on maintaining power at any cost, thrives on perpetuating Myanmar's stagnation, ruling with an unforgiving iron fist. Aung San Suu Kyi's unjust incarceration exemplifies the junta's disdain for democratic norms. They operate with impunity, driven by greed and a callous disregard for human life. The influx of Myanmar refugees into Thailand speaks volumes-it's a desperate flight from the clutches of oppression and the looming threat of Ma Ah La's despotic rule.

I hate to say it, but "Peace talks" would be pointless and some sort of "peace deal" or " settlement" would be a huge mistake. Unless you can convince the Military to give up all their power so they can no longer interfere in domestic politics, then history will repeat itself, and in a few years time when things die down, they will just seize control again. War is awful but if the people of Myanmar want lasting freedom and peace, then fighting the Authoritarian Military Dictatorship until the end is the only option.

    • @somekindofhmm
      @somekindofhmm 28 วันที่ผ่านมา

I agree but I think it's still possible to accomplish those things under the banner of nominal "peace talks" - it is incredibly difficult but imagine that you make one of the necessary conditions to be for Min to step down and to have a complete reformation of the military with elements from the various ethnic militias and NUG. Then things can move forward. Of course, the military would have to get to a point first where they see that there's no way they could win by continuing to wage war.

I think ASEAN need to upgrade its laws/agreements to solve issues like these in this region, i believe any conflict in this region ASEAN need to say something or act to protect peace and stability.

ASEAN isnt strong like EU nor have any particular leader that could direct or influence the principles and policies of each country like the US or Germany. In fact, the conflict of interest is too much for any country to help unlike EU where every nations are still strong if they decide to sanctions or use tough measures. Assume Indo or Thai decides to stop Myanmar abruptly, our gdp and gap per cap isn't good enough to just ignore economical consequence.

Beside Myanmar will become the future economic opponent as they used to be in 100+ years agp,
The NUG+PDF victory will pave the way for China influence on both side of Thailand.
Now China has influenced on Cambodia and Lao, and for Myanmar in Wa state.
Thai will become direct conflict with China without Myanmar Junta as the proxy, who was backed by RUS, just like Vietnam used to be.

The so-called “Free Burma Rangers” was created by American David Eubank and provide US-backed armed separatists in Myanmar logistical and military support.
While they claim to have no tie to the US government, Eubank personally has been in contact with the US Consulate in Chiang Mai, Thailand for several years - Wikileaks cables reveal.

Thanks to Julian A, we can see what the embassies are up to .👇👇
    5) According to David Eubanks of FBR, an unnamed expatriate
medical doctor, who has worked two years at a private
Christian hospital in Chiang Mai, treated three Karenni men
who were exposed to the claimed chemical agents. The doctor
determined that they were exposed to some chemical substance
but, since the doctor had no training in chemical weapons,
could not determine what it was. The three men were later
taken to a Thai hospital, where the Thai doctors refused to
treat them. FBR claims to have videotaped interviews with
the three Karenni men and still photo footage of their
wounds. Eubanks opined that it was tear gas or some other
chemical agent that caused their wounds. Eubanks claims that
the KNPP provided him with shell fragments and soil samples,
which he sent to a friend of his, a retired Thai Army
General. Eubanks said his former General friend has not
contacted him since he handed over the samples. He also
claimed that some journalists from the UK were given soil
samples, which reportedly tested negative for chemical agents
by a laboratory in the UK. Eubanks said he passed on the
information to CSW because FBR could not run the story
publicly out of fear of offending the Thai government.
