We learned today that the US doesn't have to bomb TSMC to the ground, the US govt forced ASML to install a kill switch on its EUV machines sold to TSMC in Taiwan. With friends like this, who needs enemies? Who has the keys/passwords to stop the $200M EUV from functioning? Likely, the CIA. Taiwanese people see who there enemies are. But the DPP is all in favor of destroying Taiwan's and the world's most important industry.

    • @tekinfomedi

If that happens, Taiwan's usefulness to USA-West fizzles out. US continued to support ROC-TW after 1949 because it was the counterbalance to CCP.
Why bother to spend so much time combating communism when the US could have just recognize China as CCPland in early 1950?
US troops would have halted north of Pyongyang, strengthened the defense lines and informed Mao they would not get too close to the border. No CCP intervention
Reached out to a US-friendly Ho in 1954 to smooth out the transition after Dien Bien Phu.
No 32K US dead in KR (some did KIA from June 1950 to Oct 1950) and no 58K US dead in VN.
The US isn't going to give up and truly (not to be confused with officially) recognize that China as CCPland. Taiwan in its present form is useful for making things difficult for CCP while giving US plausible deniability.

Both 🇨🇳🇹🇼 Constitutions stipulate that the mainland and Taiwan are two indivisible parts of one China.
The late MM Lee Kuan Yew had said that "the future of Taiwan is not to be determined by the wishes of the people of Taiwan" ........ as the "Taiwan’s international fate was, in fact, sealed at the Cairo Conference in 1943" ..( because in order to end the war, Japan had to surrender unconditionally and had to return back Manchuria, Taiwan and the Pescadores islands to China).
Recently, it seems that US is surrepetiously shifting its "one China" policy to become a "one China, one Taiwan" policy ..... but I believe many other nations won't follow in US' footsteps ...... because for many of the other nations (like Singapore), it is not a matter of taking sides but it is a matter of principle ....because they can't simply deny they have already acknowleged, agreed and accepted that Taiwan is an integral part of one China (when they were establishing diplomatic relations with PRC🇨🇳 ).
I hope the government of ROC🇹🇼 will accept the "1992 consensus" and start to negotiate for a peaceful reunification ... (in fact, as early as Yr 1973, at the White House, the late MM Lee Kuan Yew had told the late POTUS Nixon that the Straits of Taiwan is an unnatural boundary).
