this is easily my favorite film centric pod if not one of my favorite overall. Been listening for years. So weird to get visuals! I know they used to do it but hyped to see it coming back around. Need to see CR turn into Bernthal
Just wanted to say that despite everyone on the pod crediting this movie as De Niro's baby, this is NOT HIS MOVIE. This is a direct adaptation of Chazz Palminteri's one man play of the same name, and De Niro already has enough shine that you don't need to give him someone else's.
I think the reason there aren't many good father-son movies or mother-daughter movies is because the tendency with Hollywood is to want to cast a movie star as the son or daughter. This means the movie ends up being an adult child litigating their childhood with an estranged parent or talking about stuff that happened off screen. _A Bronx Tale_ is memorable because it's an adolescent child and we're shown these battles, not casually told about them as backstory.
Long Islander here. Can someone please tell Fennessy that being born and raised on Long Island doesn't make you some kind of authority on growing up in the Bronx (or anywhere in NYC, for that matter)??
@@Badgerbrew Astoria, Queens. The large majority of Long Islanders of a certain age (Gen X to early Millennial), have parents who were born somewhere in NYC.
“It is better to be feared than to be loved, if one cannot be both.” Sonny knows in his line of work it can’t be both but in the movie he is both feared by others but loved by C.
Bill....I'm a piece of **** from Chicago who's from the hood, works full time, and currently in law school. I'm saying all these things because I want you understand my level of diversity. Now please....hear me out.....DONT DO REWATCHABLES without Russilo. Yes, he has a good podcast....but The Rewatchables is where he shines. This is where he makes his money. God bless.
This Boy's Life is the opposite of a sweet father/son movie. It's a great movie about a dysfunctional father/son relationship movie. That totally came to mind with the question, though.
Whenever I see Rewatchables, all I can think of is how many great movies they still haven't covered, haven't mentioned. I wonder if they've even heard of them. This specific movie, for the obvious reason, makes me think they need to do Poolhall Junkies (how has Bill not done Poolhall Junkies? Is that movie not FIRMLY in his wheelhouse?) Also: Who Framed Roger Rabbit Walk Hard Lucky Number Slevin Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang Men Who Stare At Goats American Psycho 7 Days in Hell Hot Fuzz Scott Pilgrim vs the World The Slammin' Salmon Stretch Mr Right GI Joe: the Movie Like... I get that they'll never do "GI Joe: the Movie" (even though it's fucking incredible; what an intro - both of them - and Sgt Slaughter fucking KILLS it. Beachhead's training, specifically with Law and Order... fuck what a movie), ditto "Mr Right" most likely, but WFFR is a perfect movie. My top 5 or 6 there - plus Poolhall Junkies - I'm pretty floored that they haven't done them yet.
I love the rewatchables but the constant phony outrage of “ the way they talk to women in this , or , we need to dive deeper into the unnamed non speaking black janitor “. Stop.

One of my all time favorite movies
Road to Perdition is the best father-son movie
@JohnCena-hh3qkstrong argument.
Cannot agree more. 3 generations. Newman->Hanks (Craig)->son Incredible.
Nah
No, The Strange Thing About the Johnsons is the best film about a loving father and son story.
Close range to me
This movie had such an impact on my life. I run the "for 20 dollars you got off cheap" line almost weekly
I just watched it for the first time about a month ago, and had to rewatch it a couple times right away it was so impactful to me.
1:31:40 - Chris deserves a raise
he deserved a raise way back in godfather 3 with his "International Immobiliare " lines.
1:31:45 Wayne Jenkins
THANK YOU!
"you know this, Sean. You wrote for Vibe." 😂
I listen to the pod on Spotify but have to circle back to the video to see the reactions to Wayne Jenkins every time!
Pursuit of happiness is a great father son movie
De niro in Jackie Brown is where it’s at
It is the perfect broadway play honestly; has every distinction and trope you’d need minus the musical aspect which is only tangential not internal.
to have a film podcast and not mention Paris, Texas in the father/son concept block is crazy work.
‘Men Of Honor’ is a great father-son movie. And is based on a true story, plus De Niro is in that too.
MY FAVORITE MOVIE EVER LETS GO!!!
‘Nothing in Common’ with Tom Hanks and Jackie Gleason is a great father/son movie from the 80’s.
Road to Perdition! amazing ather-son movie
Like a diving goalie with a miraculous save, Chris' Wayne Jenkins impression appears out of nowhere.
What’s funny wondering why the Hells Angels type gang would be in the Bronx. The actual Hells Angels as well as the Pegans are both in the Bronx.
Road To Perdition father son classic imo. Oh and also "Put him in the bathroom!" Had to throw that in when discussing Bronx Tale
The Road is my favorite father son movie. I mean, I can't watch it ever again, but it haunts me.
Just wanted to say that despite everyone on the pod crediting this movie as De Niro's baby, this is NOT HIS MOVIE. This is a direct adaptation of Chazz Palminteri's one man play of the same name, and De Niro already has enough shine that you don't need to give him someone else's.
They mention the one man play several times.

The older I get the more this movie means to me. Especially having kids.
Long Islander here. Can someone please tell Fennessy that being born and raised on Long Island doesn't make you some kind of authority on growing up in the Bronx (or anywhere in NYC, for that matter)??
Didn't Sean say his mother grew up in that area of the Bronx?
@@Badgerbrew Astoria, Queens. The large majority of Long Islanders of a certain age (Gen X to early Millennial), have parents who were born somewhere in NYC.
Nobody can tell Fennessy anything he thinks he's an expert on most things
This show is awesome went home and watched this last night!
Kramer vs Kramer is the most amazing Father-Son movie.
Silver Fox Sean. We are so back, indeed.
Top 5 movie for me, great ep
“It is better to be feared than to be loved, if one cannot be both.”
Sonny knows in his line of work it can’t be both but in the movie he is both feared by others but loved by C.
More, More...MORE REWATCH
Road to Perdition. Newman hates his son, adopts Hanks, Daniel Craig tries to kill the adopted son and his son.
The great Santini is a very good father/son movie
The Bronx tale musical was actually very good. Thank god
Please do a Django re-watchable
Starship Troopers, classic father son movie
Rocky is a part of the classic Italian-American movie collection
Bill....I'm a piece of **** from Chicago who's from the hood, works full time, and currently in law school. I'm saying all these things because I want you understand my level of diversity.

Yes, he has a good podcast....but The Rewatchables is where he shines. This is where he makes his money.

Back to the future is a good father son movie! Top Five anyway 🤔
This Boy's Life is the opposite of a sweet father/son movie. It's a great movie about a dysfunctional father/son relationship movie. That totally came to mind with the question, though.
The only thing missed was apex mountain for backwards driving
You did a ‘Bronx tale ‘ before ‘ Once upon a time in America ‘ ????
Whenever I see Rewatchables, all I can think of is how many great movies they still haven't covered, haven't mentioned. I wonder if they've even heard of them. This specific movie, for the obvious reason, makes me think they need to do Poolhall Junkies (how has Bill not done Poolhall Junkies? Is that movie not FIRMLY in his wheelhouse?)
Also:
Who Framed Roger Rabbit
Walk Hard
Lucky Number Slevin
Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang
Men Who Stare At Goats
American Psycho
7 Days in Hell
Hot Fuzz
Scott Pilgrim vs the World
The Slammin' Salmon
Stretch
Mr Right
GI Joe: the Movie
Like... I get that they'll never do "GI Joe: the Movie" (even though it's fucking incredible; what an intro - both of them - and Sgt Slaughter fucking KILLS it. Beautiful boy is an outstanding father son movie
Magnolia is a good father/son movie
The PTA movie from 1999????
They clown Chazz Palmienteri for giving himself the nickname.....but don't clown Kobe for doing the same. Interesting
I never realized his real first name is Calogero like the kid in the movie.
I consider Back to the Future trilogy Father Son movies, with Doc Brown acting as the father more so than George McFly
About time is a good father son movie
This movie always felt like Goodfellas Jr. Which isn't an insult.
If Henry Hill had a caring father.
I love my blue heaven but I think that's Goodfellas jr
I do wonder if DeNiro wanted to play the father and have Chazz play Sonny had anything to do with the range of emotions required to play C's father.
I swear they talk about the same 5 movies lol
Yup
Perfect World is a great father son movie to me as well.
“Cause that sugar less motha fucka there, that’s the last drink you ever gonna fucking have!”
How dare u not mention the Pursuit of Happiness as a top 8 father son movie
Because it's Will Smith.
You have a stallone poster and forgot Rocky and creed nor over the top
Forgot finding Nemo for the father/son movies
The Road. A Strange Thing About The Johnsons. The Clovehitch Killer. The Shining.
The way way back great forced vacation and dad movie had me balling as a git
Big Fish.... Is a great father son movie
Why so few subscribers?
Italian pop culture? You missed a biggie. Donnie Brasco
You guys don’t like Frequency??
Picking nit: Game 7 of the 60 series (possibly the greatest game ever) and people are outside?
The Lion King is the greatest father son movie.
I wish Van Lathan was on every episode. If this is a voting issue, you got one
Picky nit: Open Casket after being shot in the head from point blank range?
Did this guy actually say that people aren’t getting shot in tge street anymore? Maybe at the Starbucks you chill at
TOP GUN: MAVERICK
I think a lot of the Rewatchables are ruined by Sean. He is an insufferable know it all. It becomes the Unwatchables....
I love the rewatchables but the constant phony outrage of “ the way they talk to women in this , or , we need to dive deeper into the unnamed non speaking black janitor “. Stop.
Amen. It's painfully pandering.
The Lion King
karate kid!
49:05 not cool van
Could you imagine if cr or sean said that to him
@@leemcqueen500 he’s woke so it would’ve been racist. I’m black and was turned off by that
Blow
Bronx tales is melodramatic and overrated.
Vans such a racist
Van is so annoying...
Van wasn't needed for this.
Van lathen is a dork, hate his woke takes
I hate this movie haha
Holy fuck Van's water bottle. Respect.
He'll be pissing for days
Van Lathan looks visibly uncomfortable with some of the white hipster humor.
…I feel bad for him.
