I think it’s trying to symbolize being like Jesus in the way of being nice and willing to help anyone - however the problem with that ad is
1: foot washing is a very weird way to advertise that (they should have just done the same thing as those Pass It On commercials. Just show people being nice to each other by being willing to be outwardly thankful to a veteran or showing people laughing and having a good time .)
And 2: Jesus just didn’t go around washing everyone’s feet. That was only something he did for his disciples who were his closest companions.
This is a bit of a long explanation, done to the best of my ability:
Biblically speaking, washing people's feet is an act of humility. The people in the Bible lived in the desert during a time where sandals were the standard footwear. Thus, people's feet would get really dusty from walking around in the sand and dirt all day, and they'd wash them when they'd get home. Upper-class people had servants to do it for them and would never be caught dead doing that for someone else. By washing their feet, Jesus is teaching the disciples to serve others and how: with humility. This is significant because Jesus is also the Son of God, which totally subverts people's expectations because they wanted to see a more extravagant and aristocratic Messiah, not a humble one. Serving is love toward one's neighbor, since love in the Bible isn't a mere feeling, but rather action; plus, it helps bring people closer to God.
Unfortunately, the ad misses the mark because it's completely removed from the biblical context.
