This episode was one of the best! Stone made Maher look like an amateur on foreign policy and detached/in denial of reality as he is on domestic politics aswell.
I think what i like most about Oliver Stone is he simply tries to present people as who they are without applying a Western/American morality to them. This way you can understand their point of view and understand what motivates someone on the other side of the world. Then from there at their core you can begin to have a conversation about kind of world we should build. Tribes, czars, islamists, the far east. Right or wrong people are just different. I can see why he had such an affinity for Kennedy. We are all mortal.
The bottom line is Ukraine didn't want to be part of the Russian Federation, they want a proper democracy for their people, in return for that Putin has slaughtered 200,000 civilians and slaughtered 300,000 of his own people,Oliver thinks he's a lovely guy :)
What is exactly the "western morality" . 1-I sell to you and if you sell to me, the money must come back to us ( i have documentation of this on video like: the oil money we spend will you invest this money in Britain? etc. ) yes this has become weak... they made a mistake with china... underestimated them. China did warn them ( yes we can lol ) 2- democracy is cool as long as it prevents your country to make decision... when you get someone elected who wants to tac american companies in your countries.... we will destroy you? I could go on and on Btw i'm not ani west.... not even anything near that.... but these words have no real meaning... even north korea is called "democratic....." Democracy is a luxury... when everything is good, democracy works... otherwise it is useless. I know you have learnt at school that it is the otherway around. Pick up some history books and fact check it.
Bill Maher employs a psychological defense mechanism known as "Humorism," albeit unconsciously. This refers to using humor as a way to cope with or navigate uncomfortable or challenging situations. In Maher's case, he may use humor to address controversial topics or express opinions in a lighthearted manner, potentially deflecting criticism or easing tension. This interview also highlights Maher's concritization of intelligence, particularly evident in seniors experiencing cognitive decline. Concritization refers to the rigidification or crystallization of mental processes. In elderly individuals, this might manifest as a fixed and resistant mindset. Maher's display of this could include a reluctance to adapt to new ideas or a preference for familiar, established viewpoints. Surprisingly, Oliver Stone, who is of the same age, exhibits much more mental plasticity, showcasing a greater openness to new ideas and adaptability in contrast to Maher’s more fixed mindset.

That bit from Maher about nuclear waste just killed me. " i don't know what you've heard but i just had it for lunch" but its nice to see Oliver Stone still so energetic.
It is wonderful to see Oliver relaxed, funny, real , gesturing and smiling. Never heard him like this. He deserves respect for all his work. Writer, producer and director. He is not afraid to choose controversial subjects😄
He is definitely ballsy about stating his views, but the subject isn't the problem. It's Oliver's thesis on those subjects that runs into problems, with an almost religious inflexibility.
The fact Bill Maher never heard of the BioLabs in Ukraine, makes me doubt he know the facts about the 2020 election. Not to mention he’s still probably bitter over Trump suing him
Not afraid to choose controversial subjects? He's based his entire career on it. He's a professional contrarian. I like most of his movies and I agree with many of his points of view, but it's not always the truth. It's _his_ biased version of the truth, or in some cases, outright propaganda.
Oliver was in Vietnam. Bronze Star with "V" device, which he received after conducting "extraordinary acts of courage under fire," and a Purple Heart with one Oak Leaf Cluster.

When he starts getting his ass handed to him he uses comedy like a shield to ward off being called full of shit. Ignorance is fine, I don’t know how to fly a commercial airliner but I’m not putting myself out into the aviation world as someone with an opinion to snipe at people who know what they’re talking about. If two people are in biology, physics, anything in a field of study and a group of students applies themselves and one doesn’t, that’s ignorance of the subject matter. You don’t hold that person up as some paragon of knowledge on the subject at hand. It’s not just Oliver Stone, Maher has done it for a quarter of a century. Court Jesters are not who you want to get your information from. And when you do as he does, you don’t really come off as the intellectual that you, or your fans, think you are. Quite the opposite. Maher is hilariously sarcastic, that’s why I appreciate him as a comedian. I feel the same way about Dennis Miller. It’s ironic how both of them changed when they witnessed just how mental their end of the political spectrum could get when it really got going.
He's not as educated as he pretends he is. His TDS prevents him from thinking rationally and sensibly. Then, when he gets cornered, he throws tantrums. 😂
The more I argued with them, the better I came to know their dialectic. First they counted on the stupidity of their adversary, and then, when there was no other way out, they themselves simply played stupid. If all this didn't help, they pretended not to understand, or, if challenged, they changed the subject in a hurry, quoted platitudes which, if you accepted them, they immediately related to entirely different matters, and then, if again attacked, gave ground and pretended not to know exactly what you were talking about. Whenever you tried to attack one of these apostles, your hand closed on a jelly-like slime which divided up and poured through your fingers, but in the next moment collected again. But if you really struck one of these fellows so telling a blow that, observed by the audience, he couldn't help but agree, and if you believed that this had taken you at least one step forward, your amazement was great the next day. The *** had not the slightest recollection of the day before, he rattled off his same old nonsense as though nothing at all had happened, and, if indignantly challenged, affected amazement; he couldn't remember a thing, except that he had proved the correctness of his assertions the previous day. Sometimes I stood there thunderstruck. I didn't know what to be more amazed at: the agility of their tongues or their virtuosity at lying.

What a sweet person Oliver Stone is. Loved this conversation. He seems really deeply knowledgeable about so many points.
This episode was one of the best! Stone made Maher look like an amateur on foreign policy and detached/in denial of reality as he is on domestic politics aswell.
I agree 101% and thought EXACTLY the same... Almost unbelievable...
This was epic. Took me awhile to watch and process. But damn. I'm on Oliver's side in this one.
💯
I think what i like most about Oliver Stone is he simply tries to present people as who they are without applying a Western/American morality to them. This way you can understand their point of view and understand what motivates someone on the other side of the world. Then from there at their core you can begin to have a conversation about kind of world we should build. Tribes, czars, islamists, the far east. Right or wrong people are just different. I can see why he had such an affinity for Kennedy. We are all mortal.
I'm by no means a religious zealot, but I think that it's as the Bible says,"From dust we are born,to dust we return."
But when it came to Jim Morrison, he really failed with The Doors movie to present their history accurately.
China did warn them ( yes we can lol )
2- democracy is cool as long as it prevents your country to make decision... when you get someone elected who wants to tac american companies in your countries.... we will destroy you?
I could go on and on
Btw i'm not ani west.... not even anything near that.... but these words have no real meaning... even north korea is called "democratic....."
Democracy is a luxury... when everything is good, democracy works... otherwise it is useless.

It is wonderful to see Oliver relaxed, funny, real , gesturing and smiling. Never heard him like this. He deserves respect for all his work. Writer, producer and director. He is not afraid to choose controversial subjects😄

Not afraid to choose controversial subjects? He's based his entire career on it. He's a professional contrarian. I like most of his movies and I agree with many of his points of view, but it's not always the truth. It's _his_ biased version of the truth, or in some cases, outright propaganda.

The two coolest dudes. Intelligent. Erudite. Amazing bodies of work. More power to them!
And yes! Oliver smoking the joint with Bill. We all watch and wish we were really there. Better than any Late Show.
Bill is NOT erudite or cool or intelligent
Great guests! Thanks, @Bill Maher and team! Loving the content and the channel.
MAD PROPS TO Mr. Stone!
The most telling quote was Stone saying, "Come on Bill. You know I'm smart."
Holy crap, i just read this as it happened😂
They're both smart, intelligent and convinced that their own perspective is the correct one.
I mean that was a insult to his intelligence .. Oliver is such a patient having to try to have an intelligent exchange with someone that only goes with what he « believe » ( Bill own words) ) instead of facts .
I love people who never left their cushy sofas and perhaps visited areas they claim to be "experts" on, much less to meet the people and the culture itself, but will write books about them, and know it all like Bill. Never been in Russia. Everything he knows about Russia is what he can hear from Western media, but he knows everything about Russia!!
Where did he say he knows everything about Russia? I love people who generalize and put words in people's mouths in the comments.
@@OMGWTFLOLSMH Where did I say he knew everything?! Man, the irony of your comment is too funny.
Well, how about "know it all" ?
@@manuelvillada7179 Don't you think that in order to publicly debate at this level, one would have to be really in touch with a subject. As opposed to, Bill rarely leaves the USA, much less visit Asia, Russia in particular, but he will proudly say that Russia is the last "white bastion", too arrogant to read about Russia and how diverse it is.
@kyleprather7228 Oh, you too know all that from your cushy sofa?! Just like Bill Maher. Typical Anglo-Saxon take on any foreign place, especially Russia. And to say anything about treating Muslims?!?! Your own government is responsible for at least 2 million dead Muslims in the last two decades. The same cannot be said for Russia. Clean up your own yard first then bitch about someone else!!!
I commend Oliver for putting up with Bill's intolerable interrupting.
Bill is opinionated. Oliver is well educated on matters
💯
Truth hurts buddy. BS needs checking
Doesn't Bill realize he kept interupting?
Damn, Oliver's on his game.
Dunk & score.
Bill is so not bored in this episode.
Wow,I used to like Oliver stone before I found out. He was just another weird election denier.
@@donsepate8648 🤣🤣🤣
@@donsepate8648
You're the real election denier.
Creating a platform where critical authentic discussion can occur is such a rarity these these - millions thanks Bill … million thanks !!!
Bill: Where is Julian Assange?
Oliver: He's still in London, at the Belmarsh prison
Bill: He's in a prison in London...?
🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡
What an idiot
I can listen to these two forever. Funny interesting perspectives on everything.
Hopefully Oliver Stone gets a word in
😅 It’s a conversation. Not an interview.
One sided conversation
bill maher does that to everyone, especially when talking about trump.
Yeah, good luck with that…he wasn’t too bad but I can’t believe how ignorant he is about Russia ….. not even thinking that they speak English….gee Bill….you need to get out of the USA for a bit….🙄
They're both speaking. Sit back, relax and enjoy
Oliver Stone is brilliant!
💯
Maher says his mind is always open 😂😂😂😂. Funniest shit I've heard out of him in a grip.
@@Servant_of_1111 fuck off with this cut and paste shit. You've copy and pasted this in every fucking comment!
@ORACLEofRADICALWISDOM I think they both display rigidity in their thinking, but clearly Mr. Stone is far deeper of a thinker than Mr. Maher. They both display glaring biases that neither of them properly call the other out on in a constructive way.
That being said, do you mean concretization when you say "concritization"? I believe that is the term used in medicine and psychology. Another term used more commonly would be ossification. They both display a lack of plasticity, but I suspect that Oliver is more open minded and capable of adapting to new ideas. Maher has ossified significantly more than Oliver, I suspect due to the effects that fame, wealth and cannabis have all had on his psyche.
@christophesiewecke9208 you leave the cannabis out of this lol.
@@moroniccolonic3959 As psychoactive substances go, cannabis, while much less harmful than most, is not exactly great for encouraging growth, at least that has been my experience... YMMV!
JFK is one of the best movies made. A masterclass in filmmaking.
The movie JFK was entertaining, but a total fantasy. Read Killing Kennedy by Martin Duggard for a factual account.
In that movie, I just don't understand the introduction of the character Mr. X. Was he a real person? If so, why all the mystery. Why doesnt Oliver talk about him?
@@Chris_CommentsNothing in Oliver’s movie is fantasy. All documented facts from Jim Garrison’s investigation. Sure there is dramatic licensure, combination of characters, and condensed storylines, like any movie, but everything is documented.
@@b4nedOliver talked plenty about him. X is Air Force Col. L. Fletcher Prouty. He was Chief of Special/Black Operations for the Joint Chiefs. He also served as a liaison between the CIA and Pentagon.
We can see why Oliver produces the kind of movies and Documentaries that he does . He is very passionate about the subject matter that he confronts.
Or in NEED of LITHIUM 😅
very smart too.
Oliver Stone WAS a great director and thinker, he has succumbed to boomer brain, the prevalent disease being leveraged against modern common sense. If you judge his sanity by the quality of his films, he has been out of touch since 1999.
True. He’s very passionate but also very wrong many times. Perhaps his passion clouds his judgement of what’s true or not.
Is that why he tells more than 80 demonstrable lies in JFK?
I would watch Oliver Stone interviews all day!!! He's a brilliant thoughtful man.
He's living in a Fantasy World
Oliver has to deal with a man with the intelligence of a high schooler who thinks he’s sooooo smart
And troubled and deluded. Love it when Bill asks him "is there a conspiracy theory you don't believe?"
Agree
what an opportunity to get these two together in this environment...thank you
I voted for Jill Stein as well...then Mark Charles in the following election
I can't continue. I'm here for Stone. Maher is a walking antique in how he debates and the content he debates with.
He's so glib, you think he would make better use of a more freeing format like Club Random but instead he continues to do the snarky gotcha jokes.
I agree 101% and thought EXACTLY the same... Almost unbelievable...
This was AWESOME!!! Bill and Oliver were both amazing. Neither pulling a punch, but in the end, both respected the other.
Stone, in his old age, at least makes the effort to be honest. Maher, on the other hand, way too often is dishonest--and he knows it. Yet he persists in his dishonesty. Why? Fame & Fortune. The only way he knows how to stay on the air. But really, who cares? I don't watch his show. Only tuned in to see what Stone had to say. I will take honesty anywhere I can find it: Left, Right, Middle, etc.
I doubt Stone “respects” him after this. Friends yes, respect doubt it.
Bill Mahar sounds bivalently boosted...total idiot
No not true..Bill has such severe TDS it's embarrassing. He's so overly emotional and not as informed as he thinks he is.
It isn't respectful to interrupt your guest every 3 seconds. So annoying too.
Whoa. I went drink for drink and joint for joint with these guys and holy shit…Oliver Stone throws down! Cheers gents 🍻
Oliver went deep . Bill learn to swim
Billy can barely tread water.
That was a great conversation! Both Bill and Oliver are unique characters on their own and listening to them talk outside of the Real Time set was a real treat!
Thanks so very much for speaking up for animals.
ANd thanx Oliver for your bold stance in defence of Russia.
I hesitated on this one but so glad I came back around
One of the most enjoyable communications for a long while. Oliver Stone Yes! Free Julian Assange
No matter what is being talked about, the very second that anyone criticizes Biden on Bill’s show, he immediately says, “but what about Trump.” TDS big time.
Because he's still butt hurt over Hilary (Bill, that is).
Righfully so! Trump is threatening to turn this country into an anti-democratic nut house after a shitload of criminal indictments; and you’re focusing on Biden?!
Maher pretends he’s so knowledgeable yet he doesn’t even know Assange is in prison in the UK.
Watch the Roseanne Barr episode. Maher knows very little about the world.
“Come on, Bill. You know I’m intelligent.”
Touché
Love Oliver Stone calling out Bill's bullshit. Bill seems like the type of guy that never got his ass kicked.
I love both Bill and Oliver but I have to admit Oliver has years of wisdom on Bill.
absolutely.
He also has more knowledge about Putin since he spent a lot of time in Russia. I wonder if Bill has even been to Russia. I bet not.
Bill has the trump derangement syndrome and it clouds his objectivity. Would the US want Russian missiles in Mexico or Cuba? We all know the answer. Remember trump asked why we still have NATO and people thought he was nuts? It's a valid question after cold war ended. I fear our govt has recreated cold war.
Oliver's a master
He's the bomb
I have family-two uncles-just like these two knuckleheads…AND I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THEM! I may watch this entire thing three or four more times…
The Billy & Ollie Show needs to be a weekly-Hell, DAILY-thing…
Really enjoy listening to Bill. He cuts through BS and gets to the point ..very bright and interesting
Bill has a fallback when someone is making points - makes a joke out of it. Yeah, he’s a comedian but he hides behind it when he gets his ass handed to him. Has for years.
No, he just doesn't apply himself to the same subjects as Stone does.
@@JF35598 “No, he just doesn’t apply himself to the same subjects as Stone does.”
That’s a euphemistic way of saying that he’s ignorant of topics that he’s discussing/debating which is a candy-coated way of saying part of what I said.
@@JF35598 Yeah because he cant handle it
The more I argued with them, the better I came to know their dialectic.
Thank you for having the legend Oliver Stone on! 💯
In HIS own MIND? ❤
