The "Stalking Jack the Ripper" series is amazing. Also, "Crime and Punishment" by Fyodor Dostovesky is my favorite book of all time. It's a classic psychological thriller written in the 1860s. "The Picture of Dorian Gray" by Oscar Wilde is on my TBR this month. It's a more gothic horror from 1890. I read mainly classics haha.
"Frankenstein" is a great choice, by the way!
    Good luck on your TBR!

A book about a serial killer is too depressing for me. I read to escape real life threats and worries. I recommend Pet Semetary by Stephen King. It’s super creepy and original. I read it when it came out. Even Stephen King says it’s his most unsettling work 😮

I'm currently listening to The Turn of the Key and it's SO good so far. It's a retelling of a classic gothic story in a way and I think those classic gothic elements are woven in masterfully, plus it has had some small scenes so far that genuinely make me shiver. I also read Emma in the Night earlier this year (also on audiobook) and it was a pretty interesting psychological thriller with fascinating bits about peronality disorders. Lastly a horror novel I really liked is Dancing Jax!

    Psychological thriller recs from me:
The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides
    Blood Orange by Harriet Tyce
Two of my favourites from this year also Past Life by Dominic Nolan (more thriller than psychological but still a little psyc)
    ❤️

I mean Stephen King and his son Joe Hill are some easy go to for horror. But a non King book I recently read was an amazing anthology called Fearful Symmetries edited by Ellen Datlow. HOWEVER, I know you prefer psychological, so the book I have to go with is Misery by Stephen King. (with a call out to Dolores Claiborne).
And of course The Cabin at the End of the World is a more recent psychological horror.

Hey, I'm a big Shirley Jackson fan and Haunting of Hill House is a great book! I would recommend reading a bit about Jackson's life at some point because there are common themes in several of her books (domineering male figures and spooky houses, for example) and reading about her can actually illuminate why she chose to write about those things. In her later life she was being treated for extreme anxiety and agoraphobia and in my opinion that reflects very clearly in her last book We Have Always Lived In The Castle. Hangsaman is one of her more underrated novels but I still think it's great. It's kind of a psychological gothic coming of age, if that sounds good to you (and it's super short! I think my edition is under 200 pages). I hope you enjoy (:

Great TBR! And love your eyeshadow!
Recommended psychological thrillers: Gone Girl, The Ghost Orchid, The Winter People, Pines, Rebecca
Oddly enough, I started The Diviners last Autumn and I'll be reading Lair of Dreams next. I think I'll wind up reading each one around Halloween time as well because why not!
The Haunting of Hill House show is way different than the book. Show was way better in my opinion.

You should try And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie. A lot of more modern psychological horror takes inspiration from this book (people trapped with a murderer/growing horror and paranoia).
Also try Wait Until Dark. It's not a book, it a movie but it's so good. It's about a blind woman who is being hunted by drug dealers because her husband took a package from someone in an airport. A lot of the scenes are completely black because the main character can't see.

I love October and spooky reading! This month I am definitely picking up Ninth House, Imaginary Friend, and Wilder Girls. I always recommend Ruth Ware and Gillian Flynn for thrillers! I'm curious to hear your thoughts on Hill House bc I loved the show too and even if the book is different I'm sure it still has similar themes. I read Frankenstein in high school and it wasn't what I could have expected based on frankensteins portrayal and much sadder than spooky from what I can remember.

Would you say it’s better to listen to the Diviners on audio or should I read it physically. Ha!!! Strange Grace! I also have that as well and I hope I get the chance to read it this month ☺️☺️. A psychological thriller that I love and if you haven’t read it yet, you absolutely should would be Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. That book is a mind fuck! 🤯🤯🤯

The Haunting of Hill House is really good! It's nothing like the tv show, but it's still really good. It's a good psychological ghost story. Throughout the entire novel you have to figure out if the main character is insane or if the supernatural really is at work.
I'd recommend anything by Gillian Flynn if you haven't read any of her thrillers yet! Her books are really messed up but I like them because they keep me on the edge of my seat.

I'm definitely going to suggest The Silent Patient. I listened to it on audiobook and it was SO GOOD omg I really hope you read it. it's basically about a woman accused of murdering her husband and refusing to say a single word after that, and a psychotherapist obsessed with getting her to talk. it's so amazing, definitely more on the psychological thrillers side

City of Ghosts is so cute and creepy! Kid me would have loved it a lot and adult me definitely does^^ also, about Frankenstein.. first, as it's a classic expect a lot of talking lol It's such a good story just keep that in mind^^ and second, I know it's often called a "horror" story but we should really teach people what that entails. Many think "Horror" and expect like, idk, Freddy Kruger and Saw and stuff like that. But as Frankenstein is also considered to be gothic fiction it is more about the tropes of that part of horror. Unfortunately not many people understand them (which is how Crimson Peak ended up being a flop even though that movie is awesome. Just the marketing sucked in trying to make it look like a typical horror movie.. so people didn't get it..). Just saying that because you sound like you could go into this with a total different expectation of what you'll get lol But it is such a fascinating read and I would always recommend it to anyone who doesn't mind classics.

Uzumaki by Junji Ito is a really good manga. All of the volumes have been put into one 648pg tomb and the artwork is beautiful and disturbing. Highly recommend!

    Fantasticland by Mike Bockoven
My Best Friend’s Exorcism by Grady Hendrix (killer paperback cover)
    The Hunger by Alma Katsu
These are a few of the spooky books I’ve picked up recently in audio format. The performances by the narrators really elevated them! Since they’re all adult be sure to check for content warnings before picking them up. Happy Halloween!!

"The cellar " by Natasha Preston it's one of my favorite books of all time and it's a thriller/horror book that deals with the main characters psychological effects as the events unfold.

@@Recklessjen I don't have anything to "trigger" when reading so it's not that. It was just so implausible and ridiculous that a supernatural horror story would have been more believable

My book recommendation would be Birdbox by Josh Malerman (the Netflix adaptation did not do it justice). I'm not really into thriller/horror books but I gave it 5 stars. My brother also loves it as well. Highly recommend it!

I don't think you'll read this but anyway....Can I just say that you are an amazing booktuber? I realized that you started this channel less than two years ago and you already have many suscribers and it's so well deserved because your videos are wonderful and you're such a nice person. Also your booktube channel has things that are very original and that not many other channels have and I love it. So um...yeah I love you🙌🙌 P.S your bookshelf is gorgeous
