At 8 minutes you said "I'm sure you Georgia fans are loving this."
As a lifelong Georgia fan who's had plenty of heartbreak along the way, what I was hoping for was a close enough game that everyone was having fun but a big enough gap that it was clear who the better team was.
Props to the TCU players, coaches, and fans. They kept their heads up the whole game.

Yeah was getting a little uncomfortable after the interception and score just before halftime. I was like ummm we aren't going to run it up but we aren't going to stop playing so this score might get really high and that has to feel bad for TCU. I am glad they put in other players but they are good too and weren't tired at all so it was valuable.but even more demoralizing for TCU fans probably. I was worried all week that it would look a lot like our opening game against Oregon and it was worse tbh. Oh well it is better as a Dawg fan than a nail biter, but not by much... for very different reasons.
We respect the TCU team and fans and if anyone watches SEC shorts....we will just blame HOPE! She got that Cinderella narrative stuck in your mind a bit too much and we've been there so we empathize and sympathize. Will supply you with some mace for next season/ future or maybe TN can lend you some mustard. 😐 Keep your chin up you made it to the Natty and are a much smaller school than the rest that got far!

No they didn't. They gave up way too early. First Big 12 team I've ever seen do this. Beyond sad & embarrassing. Too easy. No one ever blocked the Georgia Edge Rushers. Congrats to Georgia, but this game wasn't even fun to watch when it's that lopsided.

2012 is probably still the best SEC championship I have ever watched…and sooo heartbreaking. 5 yards shy knowing the winner was going to clean up against Notre Dame that year. Aaron Murray was so good but had crappy defenses on the other side along with the occasional week where the game plan was non-existent. That 2012 SEC championship and the 2013 Auburn game, he was absolutely amazing, but they came up a hair short.

In 2012 we lost because of Mark Rick choosing to not spike the ball. I cried that day😂 made it even worse when I saw how easy it was for Bama to win against ND! But being there for the 2017 natty was easily the most disappointing loss I’v ever witnessed. The tipped ball against Auburn and Hail Mary against Tennessee also come to mind tho😅 I’m also 22 now but being a UGA fan has been rough besides last two seasons of course. I am old, so I still remember when Georgia won in 1980 and then the long drought. We've had great players and great teams over the years, but nothing beats these boys. I was loving it. Maybe a bit of a chip on the shoulder because Max Dugan was 2nd in Heisman votes while Stetson Bennett was 4th, so this absolute masterclass by Bennett made me feel good. I think he's been the most mentally strong QB in college FB and never got the right amount of credit for the work he put in and his mental toughness. He might not have won the Heisman, but at the end of the season, he was the last man standing. Go Dawgs! Always.

    • @johnalden5821
      @johnalden5821 ปีที่แล้ว +2

The Heisman voting was a joke, but useful. I think it motivated Stetson Bennett (and the entire team) to put the voters in their place. Basically, he beat two of the three players' teams that were ahead of him. And the winner was a QB from USC, a team most people did not even see play this season. To me, the Heisman has become like the Grammy awards. You look at the outcome and just go, huh?

Stetson made fools out of the Heisman voters, two years running. What more could a college player do? Two back-to-back national championships, an SEC championship, an undefeated season to follow a one-loss season -- all of this after being a walk-on (twice) and a JUCO player. And supposedly expert voters picked some mook from USC, a team that did not even make the playoffs. Now, I could maybe understand CJ Stroud, because Ohio State played lights out and tore up the Dawgs' secondary in the semi. But the disrespect to Stetson is unforgivable. From now on, the Heisman is a farce to me.

The first QB and team to win back to back in the CFP. First UGA QB to pass for over 4,000 yards. He tied the record for most TD in a national championship game, largest point spread in history in a national title or bowl game. So believe me, Bennett is a Legend, and the NFL will pick up Bennett

I was born in 1986. Here in the South college football is like soccer/futbol in Europe. As a child a good year for our Dawgs was an 8-5 record, bowl win and not getting blown out by Steve Spurrier.
The past two years have been crazy. Our fan base has long suffered. We also had 28-3 Super Bowl loss with ATL vs NE. The ATL Braves baseball team finally broke through again a few years ago but had heartbreak the years before. UGA lost on 2nd and 26 to Bama in 2017 and came up five yards short vs Bama in 2012.

To answer some of your questions:
Bennett actually broke numerous records by the time they took him out. He's tied for # of TDs in a title game, #1 all-time passing yds in UGA history, along with some more esoteric stuff involving how completely well-rounded his statline was for the game (2 rushing TD with +10yd per carry, while also throwing 70% with multiple passing TDs, without taking a sack).
This is to say nothing about records for the game itself. Widest margin of victory in ANY bowl game in the modern era.
Full credit to TCU for going out there and playing their hearts out, but to be honest, UGA scored 65 because that is what they decided to stop at. They could have hung +80 on the board if they wanted to. It's considered poor sporting to keep driving after a certain point... TCU was completely unable to stop them.
Bennett will do fine after college football. There are a lot of naysayers about his future in the NFL, and it makes sense; he doesn't really fit the profile for what NFL scouts look for in a starting QB. He will probably never be a franchise QB in the NFL. That being said, someone will take him as a backup/gamble to see what they can do with him. He has the record to prove he's worth a look from someone.

Hi from the GA area! I've got to say UGA fans have had more than their share of heartbreak over the years. Those who endured the Mark Richt era understand. My aunt Marcy has been to every game - road, home, bowl, playoff- since 1980 so glad to see her enjoy this! What's great is Ladd was a 3 star, Bennett a walk on (yes everyone knows now), and Brock Bowers made training videos in Napa during Covid to get Uga's attention. Bennett holds for all field goal kicks so that would be a good experience in the nfl if he's drafted as a back up. If not I see commentating for sec network. I hear a movie is in the works:)

This was absolutely a murder on TV. Normally the games are much more competitive. As a Georgia fan last year, I didn't start believing we could win until Ringo's interception in the 4th quarter.
Good choice on the commentary, though. That's Scott Howard and Eric Zeier, who are the commentary team for UGA during the year.
As for Bennett, he's not the oldest QB to lead his team to a national title and he's only a couple of months older than Hendon Hooker at Tennessee. A lot of other teams are just looking for any excuse (much like that 'if so and so hadn't been injured, we would have won...' arguments). If he doesn't go into the NFL (I think he likely will, though), he'll be fine. He's a legend in Georgia now and will never wait for opportunities.

For so long we always carried the reputation of being the team to always disappoint, the team that would have so much hype and expectations at the beginning of every year just to disappoint, fall short and choke the big games. 41 years went by without and championship meanwhile being a supposed blue blood college football program and when we finally won one they said it would be another 41 years before we won again, all to go back to back being led by a walk on quarterback that was disrespected for so long by everyone including his own fan base. Every season used to end in heartbreak so it just means so much more to have not one but two titles after so so long.
