The "It's dangerous to go alone" meme is once again referenced in Tears of the Kingdom in the description for the Sword of the Hero (which itself is a reference to the sword Link uses in the original game). "Take it when going alone would otherwise be dangerous."

Another TOTK reference! If you use Ascend inside the Great Deku Tree to go into the Deku Tree's mouth, you'll see a korok with a quest to renovate the mouth as his secret room. When completed, the korok will proclaim "It's a secret to everybody!" A nod to the infamous line from the NES original.

A lot of the time in Nintendo games, the North American localisation will have cringe dialogue and memes, and the PAL English localisation will be a more straightforward translation of the original Japanese version. The Legend of Zelda: Triforce Heroes is a good example of this.

Sounds like a maverick's name" (this is especially funny because the Mega Man twitter didn't normally make in-character tweets but did just for that occasion)

seeing the Xseed thing again i can tell without even seeing the complaints that it was most certainly NOT about using memes but bastardizing the localization for many. back then maybe not as much of a prevalent issue. TODAY many "localizers" inject the moronic bullshit into a game,, changing not only dialog to include a meme, but to outright state something completely different for the purposes of agendas of the "localizer", changing characters entirely, meaning and most famously leaving out an entire conversation that would have developed characters but replaced with with ellipses and a pickles "joke" (the one time you Fire Emblem fans get any sympathy from me).

I personally do not mind memes in for example dialog when a joke can not be translated 1:! as the meaning and cultural significance is missing ( it should be a fitting meme though). So if people REALLY were upset about replacing a joke with another due to cultural barriers then screw them.
to bring an example of cultural barriers: those who said aggretsuko season 3 was thrash ( outside perhaps pacing issues), this is why a cultural barrier can ruin something for you. you thought the show didn't end well is because you missed the point that the show was not to just tell a story with a happy ending, the show is a full on critique of japanese work force culture and its associated politics. but if yo want further explanation, look up gaijin goombahs video about it. once you saw this video the entire season makes so much more sense to you from the west.
