  • @JaZoN_XD
    @JaZoN_XD 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    downshifting to slow down is actually a great technique. You are using the engine to slow down rather than the brakes which heat up and could fade (on long downhills). Not to mention it will wear them out more and need more frequent replacement. You also get better fuel economy since while engine braking cars newer than the 90s shut off fuel injection so you're using literally 0 fuel. All the while you're slowing down.

    Question: Do you hold your clutch after throttle to match revs or just let it go immediately ?
    I noticed in my car for that very smooth transition you need to let go at very narrow RPM that depends on a gear like 5th to 4th is like 2000 RPM or so. So I'm still holding my clutch after downshift revmatch because even if I overshoot then I still get that bunny hop effect.

      Rico do have a car now? First thing understand is this it not necessary to do. But 2nd thing is this is easier than learning how to start a stick car, how to go up hills how to shift etc...pretty much its the easiest thing you will learn how to do while driving stick....the issue is these guys making these videos over complicate things and try to make out like they are race car drivers. If you try whats in this video you will understand immediatly just rev up the engine before releasing the clutch and you won;t feel the drag and jerk like doing a normal downshift "rev it up clutch out".....no need to look at rpm and all this stuff. reply back

      you can give gas same time you move shifter or you give gas after you move shifter. in regards to the downshifting into 1st from 2nd at a crawling speed, rather from second gear you shift it intro neutral rev to bring the rpms up and then shift down into first as you would do in a double clutch downshift as i seen in these other videos would that be another alternative to going down from 2nd to 1st at a crawling speed? or even a better transition? since downshifting to first gear you have to be really careful because its so sensitive

So if im at 50 in 3rd gear(2krpm ) and brake then downshit to 2rd ( 2krpm still ) then i dont need to revmatch for this ? Thanks again man your the best 💓🙏

    So there's no gas off after the blip?
    What i mean is, I saw you going from 5th gear to 2nd gear.
    You clutched in, blipped the gas pedal and then release the gas pedal a little bit and hold it for the desire speed. I don't think i saw your foot leaving the gas pedal after the blip. You just released it slowly and maintained the gas pedal to bring up the speed after a turn.
    Also, how do you know when to blip the gas more?
    Sorry for the newbie questions! I learned hill start, upshifting and coasting from your videos. And now I want to learn advanced stuff, rev matching and heel and toe stuff lol.

      hello what id like you to do is just go out and in a straight line shift up then downshift through the gears normally. like in the basic downshift video, then next do same thing except just do a rev it up like this and clutch out...don't think about it too much. focus on the clutch release. Even better watch this one and do it with no shifting th-cam.com/video/2XKScm0G4bY/w-d-xo.html or this one th-cam.com/video/Ub9WE70e9K8/w-d-xo.html remember rev match downshift has nothing to do with the shift only smoothening out the bump on the clutch release. This is easier to learn than shifting , starts from a stop , going up hills and all that.

      don;t think about it too much just for example go up and down the road doing a basic downshift then try this and you will understand immediately how it smooths out the clutch release Or dont do any shift just drive straight , clutch in and release the clutch do that a couple of times then next time rev it up before you release the clutch like this th-cam.com/video/2XKScm0G4bY/w-d-xo.html It is much easier than learning starts from a stop or going up a hill...if you can go up a hill or start from a stop this is easy.

    • @DriveManual
      @DriveManual  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You should either move the shifter first or move the shifter when you rev it because if you are moving the shifter AFTER you rev it then you are trying to chase the rev with the shifter if that makes sense? There are also slow rev matches and fast rev matches so for example these are slow speed rev matches vs on the highway where you would want to do the rev match with everything moving at once so the time you are out of gear with clutch in is minimized. There is also a no shift rev match here th-cam.com/video/2XKScm0G4bY/w-d-xo.html

    • @DriveManual
      @DriveManual  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The rev match have nothing to do with the shifting by the way it is just as long as you smooth it out by revving it up or blipping for the clutch release so yeah you could do it anyway you want or feel comfortable.

      @@benny98ize well mine are 7.5 us so not big differnce :) But the way you are doing it is right but you don't need a tach so it doesn't matter I don't look at tach :) but now that you know how to rev match like that you should try the next step by doing it all at once and if you watch my how to rev match video it show that on highway but you can just do it on street to practice. Then you can use that for the faster speeds without having to brake or slow down first.

    I wanted to ask you about taking off from 1st gear, once you reach the bite point, I remember that you said you hold the clutch at the bite until the car rolls and then you can take your foot off completely, when I watch other people do tutorials on taking off i see that they get to the bite point quickly and then start releasing it slowly after the bite rather then holding the clutch at the bite point to get the car rolling, sometimes when I am taking off it seems like I am maybe just at the tip of the bite when the car just starts to roll, just feels like I am rolling a lot slower? I could maybe go more into the bite point to get the car rolling faster. what are your thoughts and I hope i don't annoy you with so many questions just need answers, thank you.

    • @DriveManual
      @DriveManual  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well honestly I dont watch other people so can you link a video? First is the issue you are holding clutch too long? if you have experience driving now please watch this th-cam.com/video/h9Fa1PLXuRk/w-d-xo.html don't do anything slowly. Move your foot in steps or inches or flicks, flick up to bite point quick and accurate, give your gas, car rolls the clutch out. Or in that video I show how to flick under the bite point so you can get used to the flicking motion and be aggressive without stalling. After you feel you can be aggressive the way you move your feet then maybe flick it higher into the bite point but not where the car starts to move. You want it to move with the gas not the clutch but you want the clutch right there ready to engage without any big dead space above it where it doesn't do much. Maybe you are just not being aggressive with your flicks or you are doing it like "slowly slowly slowly" motion...reply back

    I'm learning on a truck with low miles, but with a very high bite point. When I'm shifting up its not very smooth? I do the typical 1 then 2 (meaning bringing up to the bite point, then take the foot off - like you say to do in the video about riding the clutch: like this one th-cam.com/video/bpyGDWpDuOc/w-d-xo.html

    • @DriveManual
      @DriveManual  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      hey try just bringing it up and see. Because if is a high bite point maybe you are not feeling much bite maybe it just feels smooth all the way? no need for the 2 step? Sometimes trucks have a long throw on the shifter so when you shift the rpm drop down a bit so it can feel a little jerky but maybe thats just how it is? Are you putting your hand on shifter before you shift like this? th-cam.com/video/EYgzcOU3UXY/w-d-xo.html to help minimize the movements? Could it be your foot is bouncing on the bite point th-cam.com/video/A1Mgwsbjxko/w-d-xo.html . So hard to say you know over computer.

    • @DriveManual
      @DriveManual  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Linda great question you do not need an rpm gauge at all and i been telling everyone this because if you have one you will just get stuck looking at it. Just follow what I am doing in the video before you clutch out just rev it up gently and clutch out amooth(not slow but smooth) you should feel it smooth vs just letting your clutch out where you will feel a jerk. It might take a couple of tries but you will feel the difference immediately. First try not revving it up then try revving it up. Id like if you reply back when you have a chance to try it. just rev it up not too hard not too soft.
