I have a memory of this being on the car radio as we were driving with the windows down through vast countryside (literally “green fields and rolling hills”) during a long, hot Summer as a kid heading on vacation. Transports me back to blissful, simpler times. Happy tears.
I was lost and defeated when I discovered the music of Carole King. Thank you for singing to me when I’m feeling down. That voice…. is a cool Pinot Grigio on a hot summer night.
I was in college at Pan Am when I heard this beautiful song. In the 70s. What a beautiful voice by Carole King. Thank you Carole for all of your beautiful songs and for being part of my generation.
Carole King - A highly respected singer-song writer. This is an awesome song which we seldom hear in public channels or networks. There are still a lot of fans (esp those born in 60s) loving her voice + compositions here in HKG.
This record helped form my musical sensibilities at a young age. It was immensely influential on the way I viewed, heard and absorbed music and musical compositions not only on the writing, but in the arranging and recording. I call it “clarity.”
I just bought the TAPESTRY CD, the LIVE AT THE TROUBADOUR CD/DVD combo, Carole King Greatest Hits CD last week. I guess I wanted to go back, too!!!! These are the songs of my youth. During these troubling times, I find myself going back to the relaxing, loving, rememberable songs that brought me joy and peace. I am an old school music lover. These songs have made me smile, sing along and enjoy life in my home all by myself. The pandemic has kept me very close to home; music has recharged my spirit. I LOVE MUSIC!!!! I am so thankful that I can enjoy music with all of my senses. I have rekindled many-a-music relationships during this COVID-19 season- BARRY MANILOW, KENNY ROGERS, CAROLE KING, JAMES TAYOR, DAVID SOUL, AL JARREAU, THE PERRI SISTERS, OLD SCHOOL R&B, 70S SOFT ROCK- all have graced my ears as I listened to the playlists I created, listened to other people's playlists, and just enjoyed the melodious life of music!!!!
❤ PEOPLE WONT BELIEVE IT WILL BE ONE VETY SAD DAY WHEN THIS BEAUTIFUL VOICE IS GONE AND SILENCED ! HER CREATIVE JUICES GONE..... IT'LL BE LIKE WIPING OUT DIVINCI AND NEVER EXISTED ! ❤
Just heard this song on satellite radio. Brought me comfort and peace as a little kid not having a voice listening to my transistor radio (pre-walkman 🤣). I had to listen to this over and over again today. Still gives me peace. Glad you are being recognized for the great song writer and vocalist you are.
Carole can take the best of us back to an unsure time in our lives (70's),but she always soothed ,just like James Taylor. No wonder they were married for so many years .I love them both!!!
Alway loved this song since I was a little girl. One of m favorite by Carole king. Reminds me of traveling. I also remember seeing my uncle who was dying and this song kept playing, gave me a sense of peace, even though sad.
Ahh, when music actually ment something and appreciated the pureness of real true vocals along with lyrics you can understand🎼 Soundtracks of my life♥️☮️💋
Green fields and rolling hills Room enough to do what we will Sweet dreams of yestertime are running though my mind Of a place I left behind, been so long, I can't remember when I've been to Canaan and I want to go back again Been so long, I'm living till then Cause I've been to Canaan and I won't rest until I go back again. Though I'm content with myself Sometimes I long to be somewhere else I try to do what I can, but with our day to day demands We all need a promised land. Been so long,I can't remember when I've been to Canaan and I want to go back again Been so long, I'm living till then 'cause I've been to Canaan and I won't rest until I go back again. Oh I want to be there in the wintertime With a fireplace burning to warm me And you to hold me when it's stormy I've been to Canaan and I won't rest untill I go back again.
Beautiful song, beautifully song🎉 this song sends me to special place in time, and yes I want to go back again too ❤ Love you Ms King and thank you for all your beautiful music 🎶
Oh my, what memories! me in high school on a weekend, in my room upstairs, opening the curtains and windows, turning this album on my little record player and cleaning my room and then getting ready to go out.
You one of greatest singer songwriters of all time. You have been one of my favorites singers. You are a very beautiful and talented woman. Thank you for sharing your songs with us.❤
I see I'm not the only one deeply touched by the memory of this song. My clock radio waking me up to this song when I was in high school. A time when AM radio was much bigger than FM radio and the Top 40 stations played this song.
High School old days, many good friends but even better romantic relationships and many memorable moments, enjoying life at it’s fullest and spending many days by the beach ( a small luxury when one grows up in a warm weather country, where summertime last all year long ) This song always has been a favorite off mine, beautiful lyrics and great melody.
Wow, just can't get this one out of my head. I find myself humming this during the day and have even has this song be the first thing in my mind when I wake up. As good now as it was back then ❣
I use this music to meditate. It relaxes me and makes me remember younger age, music I grew up with and beautiful times with a girlfrind at 18, she died on a car accident😢
I just purchased the sheet music for this song. I always loved the tune, but didn't know the chord structure. Carole King is simply a genius when you look at the structure of this song and its transition to the bridge. The ending chords are also a beautiful resolution. I be playing this one for a while......
My tour at Polk began in Jan. '73 and ended in Mar. Afterward I went to Ft Sam Houston for AIT. Mr. Douglas always had a bit of difficulty figuring Mr. Kimble. But my favorite encounter of his was with (have-I-got-a-deal-for-you) Mr. Haney who always had on hand exactly what Mr. Douglas did not want. Whoever scripted that show was near genius. And the acting was brilliant. Oh and let's not forget Arnold The Pig and his penchant for TV. Eb was the last cast member to pass away. Classic show for sure. Have a nice weekend!
You MAY have done BT at Ft. Polk, 1973. If so, you MAY have been in my unit as there was a guy named 'Robert' Ostenpowski. Obviously not,. Would have been cool, though.
@@patrickryan1515"My, my, my"..(as Rod Stieger as police chief Gilespie said in 'The heat of the night') I was sent to FORT POLK in 11-73 for basic training as a green dimwit from the soft suburbs as a recruit. As Mr. Kimble in 'Green acres' said 'Whudya folks tryin 'ta pull'. LOL! ! ! If you figure all this out you deserve a lottery win, Robert at 68.
One of her most beautiful works. Touches me.
Listen to her tune..."you light up my life...."
I've never heard this before, until today. and I love it!
So simple, yet sonically powerful.
I have a memory of this being on the car radio as we were driving with the windows down through vast countryside (literally “green fields and rolling hills”) during a long, hot Summer as a kid heading on vacation. Transports me back to blissful, simpler times. Happy tears.
That's beautiful. I can relate
Yes -similar memory. Summertime. Car radio & going on vacation with this playing. Sweet memories of a simple time. ❤
Where did you go?
We want to know where did you go and where were you coming from ?
Another Superstar from the 70's ...If you're listening then you probably were there and it was quite the decade for music
The 70's was the best era in music from all genres in America. Cool memories!
I was lost and defeated when I discovered the music of Carole King. Thank you for singing to me when I’m feeling down. That voice…. is a cool Pinot Grigio on a hot summer night.
My favorite CK song, the one I enjoy most playing on the piano. When I hear this song I can feel 1972 wash over me, a real time trip.
Quite possibly the BEST thing she ever did !!!!!
Dead Heat with "You've Got A Friend".
@@misterwhipple2870 imo, this song is better.
I think this is one her TOP SONGS EVER! Just love this!
The most beautiful song she ever has done. :)

Thank you for allowing us to relax. I close the doors from the noisy world. My late husband and I shared the love this song.
Been listening to this lady sing for over fifty years. Most enjoyable.
Me also!!
Arguably the greatest singer-songwriter of all time-Love this song!
Love this song,it puts me there👍🏽
Right up there with Dylan, Lennon/ McCartney, and the Bee Gees

Stevie Wonder is that, but Carole King's legacy is in a similar strata

A treasured memory listening to this PERFECT song.

You just described how I fell in love with this
Well, if you picked any song to help form your musical sensibilities, you could do a whole lot worse than this one.

I never get tired of the song!!!
I just love how albums of the 60s and 70s looked.....
As a Brazilian, I can say that I feel a familiarity with bossa nova in this song...
Carole King and Brian Wilson are my favorite American songwriters.
Astrud Gilberto..
Never get enough of her song.
So beautiful, Carole!! 🌹🌹💖 After 50 years, I’m still learning to sing and play You’ve Got A Friend on the piano ☺️☺️

What station plays this, out of curiosity? I listen to the Bridge a lot and haven't heard it played there
Song makes me happy. 😊
I live in Canaan. This song sums it up, it`s a excellent place to be.
Classic lineup of musicians; "Kootch" on guitar, Charles Larkey on bass, Harvey Mason on drums, and more...a great album from the early '70s.
I wanna go on a country drive singing Carole king songs and the queen by my side singing to ❤😊
This song used to come to mind whenever my family drove through Canaan to get to our cousin's house in Connecticut.
Big fan 😉 of her beautiful music 🎵
Same here Rachel.
Carole can take the best of us back to an unsure time in our lives (70's),but she always soothed ,just like James Taylor. No wonder they were married for so many years .I love them both!!!
James Taylor was married to Carly Simon, not Carole King.
Doh! Lol
Absolutely beautiful

Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if they do. They're not stupid when it comes to music.

My heart swells listening to this song.
A very good mental song to time out when zeroing in a shot - lowers the metabolism and breathing.
I googled what song has Canaan in it and this was the exact song I was thinking of! Thank you, Carole King!
Love this song! Brings back great memories.
Absolutely takes me on a nostalgia trip since the first time I heard this song!

biblical Canaan. I believe Carole once lived in Canaan, CT, so
possibly...... yes.
