Wow, picked up the game on GOG as well, and I found TB’s criticisms to be valid. I wish they used a system like Killing Floor for difficulty, where the damage the enemies take is the same, but there are more of them, and they hit you much harder. This would be really fun with the dedicated crowd control weapons like the grenade launchers. I think KF really nails it, and I think that SW2’s movement and enemies could work with this method.

@@Starfals plus 2 has gun changes like you can give a shotgun rapid fire or charge it like a railgun. Basically you can turn guns into other gun types. Trust me 2 is WAY better than 3. Even melee. With melee weapons you can spin slice. Shoot slice waves. Do jabs and stuff like that

I just got SW2 for free on GoG, and I do agree that his points on the game, especially the loot system, are the weakest parts of the game. I started off on insanity and that is a bad idea. I really had to optimise slightly properly to fight these elite bosses which can take 10-15 minutes to take down. It is technically like borderlands 1, which can get boring when you fight the same enemies over and over agagin, but just with modifiers. Overall the upgrades don't seem as impactful as sw 1. That said, it is still fairly fun, outside the loot system. Meaty gunplay, even if it can get hectic and difficult to see where the enemies are because they share the same colour pallette as the background.
This game is beautiful and I love the Japanese environmental designs and atmosphere. I hate the loot system though. It’s too cluttered and wastes time instead of focussing on better storytelling.
I’m not 20 years old, I didn’t exist at 1997 but I am playing OG shadow warrior right now, I’m at the second episode and it’s exactly like doom and any other build engine game... It’s not a fucking looter shooter... Jesus why did they even try to make it into one?... Like the game looks beautiful, the guns the shooting... But why a hub in a shadow warrior game.. why heavy RPG elements in a shadow warrior game and what the F side missions?!???

Honestly, most of what is mentioned here feels like TB's massively misunderstanding the game's systems while also not delving into them properly. Yeah, each gem individually might look pretty crap, but when you get 2 or 3 gems that split each rocket you fire into 3 projectiles, you can start carpet bombing hordes of mobs with glee. The example about pausing the game to swap out the gems mid fight to counter weaknesses is a deliberate attempt to dismiss the system. Why not pre-mod another weapon with ice mods so you can swap seamlessly switch to it mid combat instead of wasting your own time in the menus? Yes, I am making counter arguments to someone who's unfortunately passed. However, the more I went through the video, the more I felt TB's view of the game was being jaded by a lack of ability to see how each individual design choice makes a whole that puts each part's strengths to good use. It's unfortunate, but that's how things roll sometimes. Also, play the game on the hardest difficulty, random reader. The loot won't be complete garbage then.
Was heavily considering refunding SW2 after got it in a bundle, think I'll give it a shot after all. Thanks for the heads up, I figured TB might've missed the mark with this one.

Not sure what game people have been playing here but TB was spot on. The looting is terrible, the gems, the crafting and the menus are painful and maintenance, the levels are boring with awful level design randomized for the worst reasons, literally the only good stuff are the gunplay and the melee. And while those things are very important, they're not enough alone. It's a terrible mix of Hellgate London, Borderlands and Diablo. So disappointing
Very right dude. but i think some people can overlook all those things,and the good things can be enough for me. for me. the gunplay and melee and co-oping was enough.
Rip TB. Yeah this review does cover some good points but damn I wished TB finished the game before he reviewed it. He clearly didn't experiment with crafting system and he never learned how to balance out the gems downsides. And enemies in this game can be bullet sponges in the early game but trust me if you learn the upgrade system enemies can end up being pushovers even on the highest difficulties.
hub for gameplay loop I'd imagine. one problem I have with FPS' and why I don't play them often is the fact there isn't a loop. it's just level after level after level. this way you do a mission, go back and have some downtime while you sort out your gems and stuff. also now they've added more stuff to do with the free DLC.

There is also a Sequel to "Ziggurat" out now, which is an absolutely amazing game. I played the original a lot, and was very happy to see a sequel. The new one is a way more polished as well. I'd highly recommend both of these games.

Game is bugged in 2024, could not get past 'Body Shaking' mission as it bugged out and locked me out of further progression, played Evil West as well and that was a bit trash and bare bones, says a lot when an old game like Evil Within or Shadow Of The Damned look and play better than a newer game like Evil West, and prob have same or lower budgets, Flying Wild Hog ain't the best tbh... I'm hoping Shadow Warrior 3 can reedeem my faith in them.

This is great combat mechanics in a bad game. The only gems worth a damn are the mods. The game should have just been all mods applicable to all guns. Instead it turned into DPS checks and rock paper scissors weaknesses and gimping your character's movement so you can feel competent later on. Also it doesn't help that every area is this flat boring ground. I hope SW3 moves away from this RNG addiction nonsense but keeps the weapon mod ideas since it is fun turning a weapon into a turret.
About elites, are they really that of a bulletsponge? Like you've said - some immunities and also vulnerabilities. These elemental mods are for something duh.
I played more than 70% of this game and I'm having a blast. Sorry, your Using this game as a straight shooter and that's wrong because it's much more than that. Mind you, using the swords and the CHI and the upgrades and you end up OP. But I don't mind.
first of all i am aware that the comment i am about to write is outdated as fuck due to first of obviously the reviewer's demise second because some points were made already tho not to the extant i am going to go to and third the game is 2 years old and i got it for free so... having played the game for 22h 47m and 21s and doing all side bounty and main missions i could the game claims i have 100% i played on easy AKA grass hopper difficulty so judge me accordingly and i am about to farm a few things before starting a new game +. now the time might now be accurate i went to get food a few times or just left the house and left this RAM hog [NOTE i have 8 GB of ram so for this game it is a hog] running because i was lazy to close it... HAVING said all that i can refute the following points. first off, "COOP LOOT and random levels KILLED THE GAME", not at all being able to bring a partner to an already fun game is cool i mean i like playing it solo in fact i did those almost 23 hours solo but you know, all this loot and min maxing upgrades is a nice thing for me i enjoy grinding games i have 700 and something hours in warframe. well let's see i am a person that enjoys turning on a game on a shitty day and just have fun in a giant meat grinder where mobs are my meat and i am the grinder, so going to a place i was in already after beating it and getting more shit to kill IS AMAZING TO ME ok well lots of games do that they have a point of no return. it's like this is smith he will die after this mission it would be wired to do side missions for a person who is dead. now in my opinion that is not a problem it's not immersion breaking for me on any level in fact PLEASE DO LET ME DO MISSIONS FOR A DEAD GUY THAT IS GREAT. also what about the final mission ? it warns you that you can only start a new game after that point WHICH IS A LIE YOU CAN CONTINUE BUT THERE IS LITTLE TO NO CONTENT I AM GENERALIZING THERE IS STILL THINGS TO DO OTHER THEN NEW GAME + BUT STILL so what do you prefer doing a fetch quest for nothing or doing it for an awesome weapon ? i had a quest that said the reward is dual wielding assault rifles, i jumped on that quest ASAP. oh come on meaty guns, if it has high DPS and overhull damage it is good, also the guns suck as you said ammo is a must so i stick to swords AND BOY the last 2 you get are AMAZING. so again played on easy as a melee main and it was good i killed most fuckers in minutes if not seconds you can die quick at higher level ? well kind off i only used heal at the zilla mech fight otherwise my swords have heal when hit and heal after kill never bothered with elemental's all fuckers take physical damage SO LET THEM HAVE IT swing a upgraded sword at them fuck 'em up actually you can put 3 and then use the anvil WHICH AS FAR AS I SAW ON YOUR MAP YOU DID UNLOCK, [NOTE I THINK I HAVE GOT THE WAY OF THE WANG DLC ON THE GOG THING SO I CAN USE THE ANVIL TO INFUSE A PERMA GEM INTO AN ITEM SO 4 GEMS] OR you are using a sword WHICH IMO IS WAY BETTER THEN ANY GUN IN THE GAME oh and depending on the sword NO AMMO not only 3 gems you can infuse a 4th one with the anvil and upgrade the ROF and damage with special purple currency ok so the yellow and orange gems do have a down side BUT you can use the anvil to purify them and remove the negative affect ALSO you can use the anvil to destroy 3 gems to make one other gem infusion if you will further into the end game you get a side quest that gives you an amulet that lets you slot the dual wiled into any assault rifle and dual wiled them so in your version i assume they added this later but you can sort your upgrades there is a button for that a filter if you will right here is the main point YES the 2 last swords you get ARE THE BEST one that replaces the KAGE in the from the previous BY THAT I MEAN it shoots slash waves BUT UNLIKE OTHER SWORDS DOSE NOT USE AMMO. and the last sword THE ONE FROM THE INTRO SCREEN. ^^^ NOW i get it a game should flash it's tits and ass at you and slowly strip in front of you teasing all the way and then giving you the gift if ravaging it at the end, in order to attract your attention, YES this game dose not do that you only get real great weapons further towards the end game and if it took me 23 hours it is a long time BUT, i enjoyed it i know its not everyone's cup of tea and i know this is not the best way to structure a game but hey, if Flying wild hog make another squeal i am all for it, tho i am not sure how they would do it anyway, yeah i like the game looter shooters were not a mistake
Your understanding of SW2 mechanics is completely wrong. Ok, lets start with big guns - thats the point, Lo Wang is over the top, and his guns have to be the same Next - guns... really? 90% of skills in game are around swords, weapons are there only to fill a hole during boss battles \ an army of enemies on the screen (just like in 1st SW remake) Side quests - yes they are optional, they give bonus skill points, bonus loot, more karma - but you can pass whole game without that Now, cherry on top - why you misunderstood game mechanics - doesnt matter which weapon you pick up, starter or late game, what matters is what upgrades you put in it If you wouldnt turn off detailed info under HUD options, you would notice that most of enemies are for example fire immune, but weak to cold So to deal with them, you put ice upgrades into your weapon 4 basic elements - fire, ice, electric, poison Then you have other addons like life regen, higher crit chance, higher crit damage etc etc Yes, you get better loot on higher difficulty levels, higher level upgrades which you can fuse to even better ones TBH i would call SW2 a mix of SW1 and Diablo 2, if you dont know how to play in those 2 games, you have nothing to search in SW2. PS. By any means i dont say this game is holy grail of games or something, it does have its flaws here and there, but if someone without knowledge shoots himself to hard difficulty and then complains about side quests, loot, and other aspects, not understanding the base mechanics of the game - that person should leave games where you have to think, like SW2 or Dark Souls, and go play in homescapes on phone.

Shadow warrior 2 is LEAGUES better than 3. Like the 3 has only 10 guns and 2 has around 70

TB was bang on here. I went straight from SW to SW2 and just hit a brick wall of sheer boredom and crappy level design within a couple of hours.

Because “BROS” mindlessly play Borderlands and apparently Shadow Warrior’s universe isn’t rich enough to hold its own in the face of competition.
SW2 is a sequel to their *reboot* of Shadow Warrior, not the '97 game. The reboot itself was a regular shooter.

Then you clearly weren't that familiar with TB's work. He produced first impressions videos principally.
Bullet sponging is an issue but luckily after every section that requires that, there is a post that refills your entire ammo for every weapon :)

This game is amazing, Doom you play once or twice, but here you can sink 100 + hours in. The gameplay, loot and level ups are just so satisfying!!

first of all i am aware that the comment i am about to write is outdated as fuck due to first of obviously the reviewer's demise second because some points were made already tho not to the extant i am going to go to and third the game is 2 years old and i got it for free so...
having played the game for 22h 47m and 21s and doing all side bounty and main missions i could the game claims i have 100% i played on easy AKA grass hopper difficulty so judge me accordingly and i am about to farm a few things before starting a new game +. now the time might now be accurate i went to get food a few times or just left the house and left this RAM hog [NOTE i have 8 GB of ram so for this game it is a hog] running because i was lazy to close it... HAVING said all that i can refute the following points.
first off, "COOP LOOT and random levels KILLED THE GAME", not at all being able to bring a partner to an already fun game is cool i mean i like playing it solo in fact i did those almost 23 hours solo but you know, all this loot and min maxing upgrades is a nice thing for me i enjoy grinding games i have 700 and something hours in warframe.
well let's see i am a person that enjoys turning on a game on a shitty day and just have fun in a giant meat grinder where mobs are my meat and i am the grinder, so going to a place i was in already after beating it and getting more shit to kill IS AMAZING TO ME
ok well lots of games do that they have a point of no return. it's like this is smith he will die after this mission it would be wired to do side missions for a person who is dead. now in my opinion that is not a problem it's not immersion breaking for me on any level in fact PLEASE DO LET ME DO MISSIONS FOR A DEAD GUY THAT IS GREAT. also what about the final mission ? it warns you that you can only start a new game after that point WHICH IS A LIE YOU CAN CONTINUE BUT THERE IS LITTLE TO NO CONTENT I AM GENERALIZING THERE IS STILL THINGS TO DO OTHER THEN NEW GAME + BUT STILL
so what do you prefer doing a fetch quest for nothing or doing it for an awesome weapon ? i had a quest that said the reward is dual wielding assault rifles, i jumped on that quest ASAP.
oh come on meaty guns, if it has high DPS and overhull damage it is good, also the guns suck as you said ammo is a must so i stick to swords AND BOY the last 2 you get are AMAZING.
so again played on easy as a melee main and it was good i killed most fuckers in minutes if not seconds
you can die quick at higher level ? well kind off i only used heal at the zilla mech fight otherwise my swords have heal when hit and heal after kill
never bothered with elemental's all fuckers take physical damage SO LET THEM HAVE IT swing a upgraded sword at them fuck 'em up
actually you can put 3 and then use the anvil WHICH AS FAR AS I SAW ON YOUR MAP YOU DID UNLOCK, [NOTE I THINK I HAVE GOT THE WAY OF THE WANG DLC ON THE GOG THING SO I CAN USE THE ANVIL TO INFUSE A PERMA GEM INTO AN ITEM SO 4 GEMS]
OR you are using a sword WHICH IMO IS WAY BETTER THEN ANY GUN IN THE GAME oh and depending on the sword NO AMMO
not only 3 gems you can infuse a 4th one with the anvil and upgrade the ROF and damage with special purple currency
ok so the yellow and orange gems do have a down side BUT you can use the anvil to purify them and remove the negative affect ALSO you can use the anvil to destroy 3 gems to make one other gem infusion if you will
further into the end game you get a side quest that gives you an amulet that lets you slot the dual wiled into any assault rifle and dual wiled them
so in your version i assume they added this later but you can sort your upgrades there is a button for that a filter if you will
right here is the main point YES the 2 last swords you get ARE THE BEST one that replaces the KAGE in the from the previous BY THAT I MEAN it shoots slash waves BUT UNLIKE OTHER SWORDS DOSE NOT USE AMMO. and the last sword THE ONE FROM THE INTRO SCREEN.
^^^ NOW i get it a game should flash it's tits and ass at you and slowly strip in front of you teasing all the way and then giving you the gift if ravaging it at the end, in order to attract your attention, YES this game dose not do that you only get real great weapons further towards the end game and if it took me 23 hours it is a long time BUT, i enjoyed it i know its not everyone's cup of tea and i know this is not the best way to structure a game but hey, if Flying wild hog make another squeal i am all for it, tho i am not sure how they would do it anyway, yeah i like the game

Your understanding of SW2 mechanics is completely wrong.
Ok, lets start with big guns - thats the point, Lo Wang is over the top, and his guns have to be the same
Next - guns... really? 90% of skills in game are around swords, weapons are there only to fill a hole during boss battles \ an army of enemies on the screen (just like in 1st SW remake)
Side quests - yes they are optional, they give bonus skill points, bonus loot, more karma - but you can pass whole game without that
Now, cherry on top - why you misunderstood game mechanics - doesnt matter which weapon you pick up, starter or late game, what matters is what upgrades you put in it
If you wouldnt turn off detailed info under HUD options, you would notice that most of enemies are for example fire immune, but weak to cold
So to deal with them, you put ice upgrades into your weapon
4 basic elements - fire, ice, electric, poison
Then you have other addons like life regen, higher crit chance, higher crit damage etc etc
Yes, you get better loot on higher difficulty levels, higher level upgrades which you can fuse to even better ones
TBH i would call SW2 a mix of SW1 and Diablo 2, if you dont know how to play in those 2 games, you have nothing to search in SW2.
PS. By any means i dont say this game is holy grail of games or something, it does have its flaws here and there, but if someone without knowledge shoots himself to hard difficulty and then complains about side quests, loot, and other aspects, not understanding the base mechanics of the game - that person should leave games where you have to think, like SW2 or Dark Souls, and go play in homescapes on phone.
