Hey, I wouldnt recommend buying it, tbh. Nobody plays it and the company has stopped support for the game. Peak is around 200 people, games take hours to find sometimes... If you want to play vs AI or the campaign, more power to ya tho!
It was like $10 on sales. It's actually decent for that price. A total rip off at any price above $20. The Ork portion of the campaign is actually funny. The Eldar is boring as fuck (except for a couple missions, it's usually a low point each time it is the Eldar turn). The Spacemarine just mehh.

i miss our bros voice, when i first moved out, i went through a year of being on my own, pretty much isolated. his videos was on constant play during that time, miss ya TB.
TB got me through so many hard times in my life. Never spoke to the guy. Never met him. But his consistent and fervent defense of consumer rights, and his constant drive to make the industry I love the best it could be were always a source of strength for me. He never knew I existed, but his voice saved me from the dark points in my life so many times, and I'm so grateful to Genna for reopening the comments so I can fully express my gratitude
Same here. Even though i also never even spoke to the man, his death felt strangely personal when it happened. I had been watching consistently for 6 years beforehand since i was 13-14

@@jasondads9509 which would still be weird considering the massive difference between the first 2 games one being a propper RTS game with building and production where the other is more a RTT with the focus on tactics and positioning and nor basebuilding at all .. to me it rather feels that relic itself just wasn´t sure which direction to go rather than having either sega or THQ frome above them telling what bulletpoints to consider ... the result is this weird compromise with a definitive influence from the mobagenre ... where they seem to felt like MOBA´s had an aspect to them to be more compelling than classic rts but didn´t exactly know what it was or what to take from it ...
@jason dads Counterpoint: SEGA also owns Creative Assembly, who make the Total War: Warhammer games. So unless there's actual evidence of SEGA messing with DoW3, I doubt they were at fault.

My biggest problem with this game is that its trying way too hard to be something its not. Its trying to be a much simpler game to draw in the more casual gamers who would never be interested in an RTS rather than making a good game for the ppl who will actually play it, IE fans of Dawn of War, 40k, Company of Heroes, or Relic Strategy Games. The average person who plays video games is never going to be interested in DOW3 no matter how much you dumb it down for them. On top of that, the game plays much more like a cross between League & Starcraft thats worse than both individual games, more than it plays like a Dawn of War game, either of the 2 games. Dawn of War 1 & 2 were very different games, but theyre much more similar to each other than this is to either of them, & I feel like that is a spit in the face to Dawn of War fans. So what you have is a game thats trying & failing to please an audience that isnt going to be interested, all while pissing off the audience they had that would have. This should have been a Relic game, with all the cool stuff that Relic games are known for, the stuff that makes them unique in the RTS genre. Instead, they made a worse version of Starcraft. But honestly, even if they made the game more like Starcraft than Dawn of War, & it was actually a good game, it still could not compete in that market, Starcraft 2 is too popular
I just wonder when a studio besides Focus will take up the mantle of making a game in the grim darkness of the far future- and then succeed in not making a game that you only slightly consider buying when it is 75% or more off.

I was one of those morons who preorded the sexy thunder hammer edition of the game. AND oh boy, i used to think the fans of Starwars for example were being over the top super salty with the recent movies destroying childhoods and ruins the universe forever. I now understand as the levels of salt and the jus overwhelming disappointment. I reaally could nnot play any 40k game or even enjoy 40k. It was jus so boooring, and that 2nd mission with the Orks im convinced it by design to takkke you over the steam 2 hour refund mark. And so i was unable to refund. They set a standard with cover, gamemodes, single player, synckills etc and just took it all out ? WHY ??????? ALL things that made you stand out from the tired old "traditional" rts of blob v blobs. To chase that esports pie ffs. The worst thing about this is i very much doubt we will ever see a Dow4 ever.
Well i was happy with the game. But at the same time i got it for 12 USD from a humble bundle monthly. I'd probably be miffed if i paid 60+ USD for it. It's not crap but certainly too different from the rest of the series to be well received by the long time fans. And people it was aimed at are already playing Starcraft 2. (And SC2 is free now)
Sooo, basically they went the way that Riot is going with League - That is the way of stripping certain bits & pieces from the game that on their don't seem like much of a big deal but all-together you realize they're removing a bunch of stuff fans loved about the game. All that in order to make it more "balanced" or competitive play or something. Also, just like Riot is doing with League, everything seems does indeed seem to die so much faster. Heck, compared to DoW1 and 2 units here just pop, just like League of legends in it's later seasons compared to it's earlier ones. The heck is this overall obsession with TONS OF DAMAGE of developers in their games lately? Instant gratification what else ~ meant to give you that "OMG LOOK AT THAT ONE SHOT!" brief moment, which comes at the cost of overall strategy and the rewarding feeling of outwitting your opponents with over time. Sad times gaming is steering towards...
What did riot remove that fans loved? In the year or more i didnt play not much changed other than the drake system, only thing I would have liked to keep is the 2 smaller monsters in buff camps
Soul storm also benefits from having incredible mod support easily doubling the scale of the game while fixing a ton of qol, which this definitely doesn't have

This is a solid RTS, the biggest problem is indeed "the system clips the wings of the players". It is taking after League, which is somewhat the worst kind of game design in my biased opinion and 3,000 hours of misery. It takes away so much of the "strategy" part that ~50 hours is the most I can play. Even though I love the graphics, the overpowered heroes and the spess mehrines, everything just repeats, over and over. Only if the people whine less, only if the developer stuck to a well-defined design, only if they didn't just abbandon the thing. Stormgate is coming out soon. I am doubtful it can step out of starcraft's shadow.

All this to make it an E sports contender which ultimately failed . Less moba? Sure about that ? Lose an entire mission because you sent out a single unit at the wrong time at any moment . Utterly abysmal design holy shit . It had no DoW atmosphere , the orks sound shit, and there was nothing gritty about the series anymore . No one is going to appreciate seeing towers and nexuses in their DoW game man. Everything they did to stylistically change the game was a step in the wrong direction more often than not : see terminator armor and the look of the Space Marines themselves . Also , 3 races . Nice . The graphics are lazy and boring , and for this title , that’s just disrespectful . Hope I have shed some light on what kind of remarks I’ve seen from the community on this ruination of a series

The game looks good to me. I never played it but everything in your review makes me want to get it. It looks more like dawn of war 1 than dawn of war 2 which is great since I'm a huge dow1 guy. It's cool to hear the orks are complicated to play as since that's how they're were in then first one. It's sad to hear the game mediocre but I might still get it. I don't like the skull system. Like at all. Especially in a multiplayer heavy game. The doctrine seem pretty cool though.
i hated this game with a fiery passion, an absolute mockery of what dawn of war was from very impressive and super fun to just awful, most likely relic's worst game it tried to pander to both dow 1 and 2 fans, but failed miserably at doing both
Rewatching this review, TB man, but also, realised with some hindsight and realization I did not have at the time, that they made this stupid game for E-Sports. To think even to this day streamers like CaptainShack say still play the first Dawn of War with Mods and such, and watching this, what a horrible game.
First DOW games were decent, DOW 2 Retribution has a solid MP other than that ... at this current state, agree. W40k Universe has much of potential but sadly Relic ceased to understand its foundations, it not even really about cartoony graphics and bad gameplay choices.
I thought the same way when DOW 2 came out but i got it on sale and while its definitely NOT DOW 1 its got a somewhat decent story, game play is fun (especially with a friend) and it looks pretty decent. but i agree 3 was a bust

Only 3 races? Soul storm had 8 and I played the shit out of it. Still don't consider myself good at it. I was able to beat a stronghold or two.
