- We discuss some of Newcastle United Football Club's history in this video. We begin with the club's location, home ground, and founding story. We then discuss the club's nicknames, crest, and important events. And we close with discussing noteworthy players, managers, and stats/records.
The video is not all-encompassing but it hopefully provides some interesting information about Newcastle United FC.

As a Geordie and NUFC fan I have to say.......spot on. Good job mate.
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed the video 🍻
Now. Richest club in the world. Patience paid off 😁😁
Newcastle is the club to watch this season
🍻
Thx mate, it really helped me with my homework
Happy to help! 🍻
The reason for the ‘Toon’ nickname is because St James’ is in the city centre, which gets called Toon/Town. For example it’s common to say ‘I’m going shopping in the Toon’, or ‘I’m going for a drink in the Toon’. So you’d go into Toon for the match. It stuck, and NUFC became ‘The Toon’.
Interesting info. Thanks Tom! 🍻
The Soccer Tavern no problem. I think you did a good job. A lot of people think that NUFC was a straight merger between East and West rather than East taking over West. Despite NUFC counting from 1892, I personally consider East End’s founding in 1881 as the birth of the club. I actually live a 5 min walk from the site of East End’s old ground, and the meeting between East and West took place in a house at the top of the next street along from me. The house is still there, but the ground was swallowed up by the rail depot in the early 1900s.
This is all so cool to learn about Tom. Thanks for sharing. And thanks for your kind words about the video. Happy you enjoyed it.
One other thing to mention is how iconic the #9 shirti, worn by most of their most prolific strikers.
Thanks! I think lots of clubs have strikers to wear the #9 shirt but Shearer definitely made it iconic for Newcastle. 🍻
@@TheSoccerTavern most notably Shearer, also worn by Jackie Milburn, Malcolm MacDonald, Les Ferdinand, Andy Cole, Obafemi Martins, and Papis Cisse (which is who I consider to be the last #9 to be prolific) it’s got a legacy and image for them which is understandable. I’m actually a Man Utd, but I always admired Newcastle and loved their culture for the game. Hopefully they’ll get back up top in the PL along side United one day. Thanks for the video!
thanks - great stuff
a geordie in whitley bay saying hello and had to say canny job mate canny job indeed
Thanks Caleb!
Great video mate !

Also to note Newcastle and Sunderland were at war during the English Civil War in the 1600s. Newcastle supported Parliament and Sunderland supported the King
Thanks for the additional info! 🍻
It's actually the other way around. Newcastle supported the King in the civil war and Sunderland supported Parliament. Then during the Jacobite uprisings, Newcastle supported King George (and is why they are known as Geordies) and Sunderland supported the Scottish Stuarts.
Love and Respect from India
Thanks Ashim! All the best from Philly 🍻
Howay the lads!
🍻
RIP SIR bobby robson
And now we have finally completed the takeover and are the richest club in the world 🤩🥳🎉
Newcastle were a big team back in the day constanly getting european football now they need more signings to make them finish in 7th or above to compete with wolves chealse and arsenal
Also necastle united needs mangers with the likes of klopps and gardiolas class to rebuild for the long term
Originally named Stanley FC, they soon changed their name to Newcastle East End. Then after relocating to the city centre and Newcastle West Ends financial collapse, Newcastle East End changed their name to Newcastle United. There was no merger of clubs. So despite two name changes, the football club that stands there today has been in existence since 1881.

Thanks for watching and sharing this info! 🍻
can you please talk about the source of revenue for this club in your coming videos?
Hey Nisha. Thanks for checking out the video. What do you mean by source of revenue? Like where all their revenue comes from? Amounts? What time period? I haven’t really done a video on that because it changes very quickly year to year. These videos are more club overviews than really detailed.
HOWAY THE LADS!!!!!!!!
🍻
Nice vid, but are you ever gonna drink that beer?
Haha, I can assure you I drank it off camera
You forgot facts about Newcastle united is their anthem local hero and blaydon races
Thanks for checking out the video and for letting me know about these things. Could you share some more info on them? I’m curious to learn more and I’m sure other viewers are as well.

Here's facts about Blaydon races Newcastle United anthem
Can you la liga team
The Toon is the supporter's nickname, not the team itself. Edit: you have my 'like' anyway ;) keep it up
Thanks for checking out the video and for providing the clarity about the nickname. Thanks for the like and words of encouragement too 🤙
@@TheSoccerTavern Np, good content and it's a minor fact that most people don't know. Also, if someone tells you that this game isn't called soccer, just tell them that the word actually comes from English slang in the late 1800's. It's not an American invention 😉
Oh, I’m aware. I have an entire video about the origin of the word soccer: th-cam.com/video/PaNKceJb_58/w-d-xo.html
@@TheSoccerTavern hahah good one :) I'll check it out later, curious to know more about that
The toon is just what people from newcastle call the city of newcastle and the club too. The fans of the club or even just anyone born in the city are called "geordies".
Newcastle have an amazing history, then you look at the way the club is run today & we're the laughing stock of English football !!!
Way aye also newcastle is called Newcastle upon Tyne why isn't Sunderland called Sunderland upon wear?
Not really sure
Sunderland use to be called wearmouth for hundreds of years
There are other Newcastle's in England. So calling it Newcastle upon Tyne is just giving "The Toon" it's full name. Whereas there is only one sunderland (thank God).
New Newcastle fans pls write your name
1.

City fans here after new owners takeover
Decent video kidda, but please it’s football not soccer 👍🏻
Newcastle = Captain America, Boro= Black Widows Stunt Double, Mackems = Hawkeye with a blindfold and ear muffs........ie...useless
Who else is watching the history as the European super league is about to ruin football
It’s a sad day...
