In this video essay, we explore the intricate layers of narrative, mechanics, and emotions that elevate SOMA to a realm beyond mere gaming. From the cold, crushing depths of the ocean to the eerie silence of a world post-catastrophe, SOMA asks profound questions about consciousness, identity, and what it truly means to be human. SOMA is fantastic, and as someone who studied philosophy I appreciated how they brought in concepts of reality and consciousness into a video game for others to experience. For me, it didn't really change much about my beliefs on reality but I can see how it could cause existential dread for others...
Also F being trapped at the bottom of the ocean
I KNEW it was going to be this game haha. Super well-edited! The cutaways are great and there's visual context for everything. I'll never forget first encountering an enemy and not realizing it was an enemy. That and the mirror shot have stayed with me for years.
Thanks, brovski! Love the mirror scene
Such a well-made video. Havent played the game yet but it sure does seem creepy as hell.
Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed it 😊
I like your descriptive take on this. Subbed. Sometimes it’s difficult to articulate why a game makes you feel a certain way, and you did a good job of putting it into words
Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed it 😊
Soma is really good. There were a few really disturbing parts. It was a game that really made me think about things. The ending was something that really stayed with me for a while.
Wish more attention was brought to this game because it's definitely brilliant and you did an awesome job at explaining why. I'm a sucker for horror, so I'm looking forward to more videos like these!
Couldn't agree more, and since I had to replay it to make this video, I can honestly say it still holds up.
Thank you for the kind words, I'm glad you enjoyed it 😊
"I was always drawn into stories about human condition, but Soma, Soma is relentless" - Yes

Nice video! I played the game a while ago and i thought it was super creepy. I should play it again.
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it 😊
Def worth to replay it
When I was playing Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty. Some parts directly reminded me of SOMA and nothing else it reminded me of. That trademark uneasy feeling
That's interesting, which parts gave you that uneasy feeling?
@@ViciousTNT The entire blackwall and constructs plot. Songbird and Johnny being inside and apart of V's body made me realize humanity already opened pandora's box, and An AI war is coming.
The Peralez questline proves AI has already infiltrated humanity for it's own benefit. Brainwashing people through cybernetics.
Alt being an AI hive mind, can destroy an entire army if connected to the source code to cybernetics
All that behind the main plot is kinda terrifying. A prelude to what SOMA shows will happen
Gotcha, thanks for sharing your perspective
Great video man. I’ll admit that I was disappointed with this game at first. But when I sat back and thought about it, I realized just how horrifying it is. Good work!
It's a fair point, it's a fairly slow burn until you get a bit deeper into it. As you said, if you don't stop for a moment, it's easy to just see it at a surface level.
And thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed the video ❤️
Such a great video! I think I’ll check out the game too
Thank you, enjoy the game ♥️
unfortunately i'm going to have to stop watching 3 minutes in, because now i wanna replay Soma, cheers
Haha, all good, enjoy the replay 😊
game is deep... in multiple aspects 😂
you just convinced me to buy the game lol
Haha, I hope you will enjoy the ride 😄
