I love the message that the big city and all its excitements are not everything. What really matters is being surrounded by good people. I grew up in a megacity and then moved to a smaller city but im also closer to countryside. The people here are so much nicer & Im much happier, so in a weird roundabout way i kinda relate. I also know people who basically did the same as Yohane in this episode and now they have to rebuild their lives back in their small home towns.
To answer your question at the end: No, I don't think I would've enjoyed this episode as much if I hadn't watched Love Live Sunshine before. However, that's exactly how it's supposed to be. This reminds me of the Mario movie where some people claimed it's not good because you have to be a Mario-fan to enjoy it... but the thing is, the movie was made *specifically* for Mario-fans. Similarly, Genjitsu no Yohane was made *specifically* for people who already like Love Live and know the characters. So yeah, no wonder. Kinda upsetting how many nerds I've already seen with their 'top-tier anime taste' claiming this is another trashy isekai when they're too stupid to realize you're supposed to watch the parent story first smh. Sorry about the little rant lol
Those kinds of fans claim everything but their favorites are trash. The only thing that is trash is their opinions. I've seen plenty of trashy isekai, this is definitely better than those already.

About your question: Well it's very hard for me to answer. Because of Love Live! I already am affected to AQOURS - LL! Sunshine!! even is my favourite of the several storylines so far and one of my Top 3-animes (and I hope this one will be there as well in the end). And that's why I cannot answer it. If I had never heard of AQOURS before... well I guess I would have liked it. The introduction is - of course - very generic and it should have worked for a Yoshiko-centered Sunshine (I think with idols but without school idols) as well if there wasn't that (quite era-inconsistant) fantasy-stuff. But this kind of introductions I have in many of my favourite animes. What I really like are the numerous references to Sunshine!! in this first episode. Of course, the biggest one is the use of Numazu as a setting itself. But there were other references as well, for example the flyer that smacked Yohane's face. We have seen it with Chika who gut smacked by a maid cafe's flyer (kicking off the Sunshine!!-story). The scene, where Yohane sitting alone and seemingly lost the train is very similar to Kanan sitting in the train in HPT. And of course Laelaps, as you have already told. Oh, and as a reference to the original SIP we have seen Hanamaru making sweets similar to Honoka. I am sure I have missed more references (and I am not counting Chika-Mikans, Kanan-diving, (seemingly) strict Dia as head of a bureau... you name it). P.S.: About no male guys in Love Live! That's not (entirely) true. You can see Honoka's father for example though just from behind or just showing the lesser half of his face. And of course there is Cotaro Yazawa! And in the Love Live!-Movie we can see at least some seconds from Maki's father's eyes perspective, when he brings her to the airport. But for Sunshine!! I am not quite sure. I think, there was also Chika's father, but I am not sure, if I am mixing it up with Honoka's father right now.
