Kind of in the tradition of a story like Journey to the West, where the names really do tell you just about everything you need to know about someone. But yep, his name is Vegetable.

To be fair, Bumi canonically surrendered Omashu without a fight before being imprisoned. Also, the timeline implied by the video is completely wrong, as Omashu was visited and shown to be occupied territory well before the slug incident, let alone the Ba Sing Se episodes.

I've always believed the idea that there's a hidden organisation of cabbage merchants in atla. They resupply any merchant who loses their wares in an accident, and just help each other in general. That would explain how cai keeps getting back his cabbages, and also adds a hilarious implication to the show, being that there's an undiscovered powerful group of cabbage merchants
No wonder he became so successful in the future he suffered losses after losses yet he still pressed on other would give up other would choose a different career path but he still pressed on with his beloved cabbages
I think Sokka was messing with him. He knows who Kai is, what he did and why - after all, Sokka is a friend of Zuko, who called him by name. The Gaang would be the first people to forgive him, along with The White Lotus crew(Bumi might even find the story as amusing as it is sad(sad because of any of his people who died in Omashu's fall)). I can't imagine Sokka, Katarra, and Aang NOT apologizing to him and Bumi for that mess... With Sokka recanting a few seconds later with "Wait, why are Katarra and I apologizing!? WE didn't do-OW!!" As Katarra elbows him in the ribs.
My favorite part about tLoK is that an heir to cabbage merchant Cai finally achieves some well deserved revenge on the heir to Avatar Aang. While Korra survives and it doesn't cause her any long term setbacks, I was still cheering for team cabbage!

I love that the story goes that this guy never gave up on his passions. After failing his whole life purely from freak accidents, he was fully taken care of. Even though he felt guilty of his war crimes, it was still a piece of his journey that lead him to innovating technology. Everything in this guy's life lined up on the sheer power of believing in his dreams. He has the true protagonist powers.
Slight blip in the timeline there... the Omashu Secret Tunnel information (10:05) should have come earlier on the timeline, before the cabbage merchant sees the Avatar getting into Ba Sing Se (8:53), for it to be useful to the Fire Nation in capturing Omashu.
I'm such an idiot for not realizing that the Cabbage Merchant would use the secret tunnel to get into Omashu. I also didn't realize that there was actually a slug in his pile of cabbages. Nice on catching that.
You know what's hilarious? The cabbage Merchant's voice actor voices The Fire Lord in the Quest for Balance videogame. NOT the Cabagge Merchant himself! It was his revenge!
I like to think Bumi gave the cabbage merchant *some* money, which is how he was able to afford to set up his third cabbage cart in that episode. Still, going through three carts in two days is pretty expensive! Also, it's a market stand rather than a cart, but a bunch of cabbages get washed away during the flood in 'Jet' - I like to think those belonged to The Cabbage Merchant as well. The town is occupied by the Fire Nation military, so maybe that's where he gets approached with the cabbage slug scheme.
I do hope that Bumi, being a king, and a wise and fair one at that, would at least pay the Cabbage Merchant compensation. If not for the other carts, then at least for the one that he was involved in destroying.

You're the second person to say something about my perspective, I dunno the TH-cam thing is nothing compared to some of the stories I have honestly, I've lived in foreign countries for the last 8 years, I've been homeless, I've worked in mines, orchards, restaurants, as a teacher and now a TH-camr... In another comment I suggested doing a few anime villains perspective mainly bleach Naruto and Dragonball Z. That's a veritable wellspring of content that lends itself to your particular delivery style.
I love that the story goes that this guy never gave up on his passions. After failing his whole life purely from freak accidents, he was fully taken care of. Even though he felt guilty of his war crimes, it was still a piece of his journey that lead him to innovating technology. Everything in this guy's life lined up on the sheer power of believing in his dreams. He has the true protagonist powers.

Slight blip in the timeline there... the Omashu Secret Tunnel information (10:05) should have come earlier on the timeline, before the cabbage merchant sees the Avatar getting into Ba Sing Se (8:53), for it to be useful to the Fire Nation in capturing Omashu.

I like to think Bumi gave the cabbage merchant *some* money, which is how he was able to afford to set up his third cabbage cart in that episode. Still, going through three carts in two days is pretty expensive!
Also, it's a market stand rather than a cart, but a bunch of cabbages get washed away during the flood in 'Jet' - I like to think those belonged to The Cabbage Merchant as well. The town is occupied by the Fire Nation military, so maybe that's where he gets approached with the cabbage slug scheme.
He should do the 3 traveling old men from Cowboy Bebop! That would be so cool.
