I agree it would’ve been nice to have some artwork on the discs. Since they went with the plain discs they should’ve put the names of the episodes on them. I’d rather the artwork though.
I bought the no steel book version cause I think the covers look better than the steel books, they each have the house sigil on the cover

Great video! I would usually get the steelbooks as I collect them, but much prefer the animal portrait artwork on the standard amray version. I'm not really sold on the design of these, they look a bit bland to me personally.
Huge thing to note. The steelbook discs aren’t stacked on top of eachother like the regular 4k set. My regular 4k set had scratches on them brand new and some discs would glitch out because of it. If you can get the steelbook set for a fair price. Jump on it.

I’m getting this for £250 when it gets released here in the UK on December 14.
Should’ve been released here on November 2 but didn’t happen for one reason or another, don’t know why though.
Yeah I've also pre ordered and the reason for the release date is because in America it was a best buy exclusive whereas for us in the UK it was an Amazon exclusive therefore have different release dates. However its much better to just order online haha.
@@archiemcgrath1222 It’s actually not an Amazon exclusive, it’s readily available everywhere (Amazon, Zavvi and HMV). I am unsure about zoom however.

Bought this set too. While it is beautiful. I had bowing on my outer shell as well. It is fixable. But the digital code only redeems in HD. Emailed Warner Brothers and they said that is correct. Wasn't a mistake. Was hoping for 4k digital since the money we spent for this. 240 dollars! But yes I am happy with the physical media
my set had the first season upside down. i took a pic before i removed the plastic wrapping. i wouldn't try to fix the damage just in case i make it worse.

If I had known complete series would be released on 4K I would have waited. I purchased limited edition Blu-ray set. Displayed on book shelf - it’s nicer looking than the 4K sets for a display piece but I’m sure the 4K sets are visually better to watch. The Best Buy Steelbook is missing the episode guide booklet that standard set includes. Seems they rushed season 8 packaging stacking all the discs in this set....
I really like the limited edition Blu-ray set I bought that last year, as I’ve said in a previous comment I’ve also got the steelbook collection on pre-order which gets released here in the UK on December 14.
I’ll definitely be picking up the standard 4K release at some point down the line as well.
I’m more pissed off with the Hobbit right now here in the UK as I still can’t pick up a pre-order, white anywhere and The middle of saga are getting released on 4K here on November 30.
However in the US Best Buy are still offering pre-orders for pick up and collect for the hobbit and I also believe Lord of the rings, the latter I have on pre-order but the former, again I don’t.
I have to say that sometimes steelbooks are a hit or miss. I like the original Blu-ray releases that fold out with the artwork. The picture and sound quality may be better for this set, but to me the originals are better.

Why the digital code is not included?
I guess there is no episode guide, that small book, that the basic edition has.

Not keen on the design of the Steelbooks themselves, with GOT written on every one. The outer case is nice though.

What a wonderful collection. Here in Brazil there is no such collection and if it had, it would cost the price of a car. and to import the government charges a very high tax rate.

These things had poor quality control. The 1 copy I bought had the 1st disk of season 1 missing, the replacement that I got had the disk for the entire 2nd season missing. Ended up creating a Frankenstein of the two. Hopefully not too many people ran into that problem, since each Best Buy only got a few of these.

Thanks for not spoiling anything. Yes, I am one of those people who still have to watch this series. It's true, those people do actually exist. During the first two seasons I heard so many people talk about it. It looked like it'd be worth checking out, so I bought season 1 on DVD. I watched it and thought it was absolutely fantastic. By the time I had finished the first season, season 2 had just been released on DVD, so I immediately bought that one as well and watched it. However, then I had to wait a whole year until the next season would be released and I thought: "This is something I don't want to do every single year. I'm not going to wait for a whole year every time a season has ended. Then I always forget what happened in the previous seasons and I have to rewatch those older seasons every single year. I want to just watch it all back to back, just like I did with the first two seasons."
So, that's what I did. I completely ignored all news, so I wouldn't see or hear any spoilers and I just waited until there was a boxset containing all seasons. This took several years and by this time I had bought a Blu-ray player, so I bought the Blu-ray boxset. However, the first and last seasons were also available on 4k Blu-ray, so I was hoping the other seasons would also be released on 4k Blu-ray. Even though I did already own the Blu-ray boxset, I decided to wait a little bit longer in case a 4k Blu-ray boxset with all season would be released.
Even though I don't know the precise details (because I ignored the news as much as possible because of spoilers), I do know there were many complaints about the last season. Apparently many of these issues come down to people watching the show at a terrible quality. People watch it on a streaming service and can't see what's happening. However, watching the same episodes on 4k Blu-ray with HDR solves these issues and you can actually see what's going on. So, when I'm going to watch it, I just want to see it at the best possible quality. So, even after buying the Blu-ray boxset, I still have only seen the first two seasons on DVD. All this time I've been waiting for all seasons to be released in the highest possible quality. This boxset is exactly what I've been waiting for all of these years. This is how I want to watch Game of Thrones for the first time: all episodes in the best possible quality and one season after the other, without the need to wait for the next one to be released.
No Spoilers:
I wish that I could say that my complaints about the last seasons were about "terrible quality" related to streaming service, etc. I used to be able to watch my favorites parts of different seasons repeatedly and now I can't.
HBO as well as George were willing to keep going with the series and I wish that D&D would have just waited for the books or sought GRR's help or handed off the final parts to others instead of the odorous, steaming pile of excrement that they chose to punish us with. They spoiled it for me.
(We now know why they lost their deal with the next Star Wars trilogy)
I can imagine the number of people who are just gonna take the Season 8 steelbook out of the set and dispose of it.

I think is upscaled but I saw the first season on 4k and you can see and hear the difference if you have a decent set up
from my limited research i found that earlier seasons used 4K Arri Alexa Mini digital cameras and later seasons used 6K Red Epic Dragon digital cameras.
Unpopular Opinion:
Season 8 was really good albeit it was rushed and had some stupid bits - like that stupid STUPID defence of Winterfell or Daenerys' death.
Btw, for the defence of Winterfell, they could have placed the trebuchets inside Winterfell, dug out massive dunes around the walls and had the dragons just incinerate inside that. The Night King would not have been able to do anything with that snow storm, since it would have been too close to the castle. And just have soldiers literally mow the Dead once they climbed up. Not that hard. Literally something I thought of for 30 seconds.

*I'm kinda regretting I bought it: not only we no longer have that option that allows you to play each episode seamlessly, without any interruptions as you change from one disc to the next one, but I also find myself watching some bits that look as if I'm watching a regular/mediocre Blu-ray version or, much worse, a DVD or a VHS cassette: in season 2, for instance, there's a scene (I can't remember the number of the episode), in which Cersei confronts Tyrion about him sending Myrcella to Dorne; I swear to God it was as if I was watching some shitty recording from a 90s TV show on VHS; simply appalling.*

Consering GOT was recorded exclusively in 1080p using digital cameras, it doesn’t surprise me that the 4K version doesn’t look any better. It’s still just an upscale image.

Everybody reviewing the packaging, the least important thing. The video and audio quality is far more important!
Except people want to know if the discs come stacked or not, because that can cause scratches, which can lead to playback issues.
Well this is the steelbook box set so it makes sense steelbooks are mostly aimed at collectors otherwise if you don't care about collecting you'd just go with the regular box set or digital

I appreciate the design of the regular 4K a lot more than the Steel Books.. But the collector in me wants the steel books 😫😫

i chose this set due to the limited number made. BUT, it is just a simple little gold sticker on the side! very disappointed with just a little sticker. season 3 had the numbered dragon case and it was molded on the bottom. i was expecting the same with this set.
I was debating as well. I like the artwork more on standard set and it comes with episode guide book. Unfortunately the discs are stacked in the cases which I’m not a fan of
Why doesn’t it have finger cut outs in the foam like Rambo and Batman? Stacked hub on Season 8 because nobody will want to remove those discs anyway?
