I get the whole "accent changing" thing. She sounds more American when she's in America and more British when she's in Britain. It's just about the people she's around. Gillian Anderson famously has an English and an American accent depending on where she is. Heck, when I talk to family on the phone I often lapse into a South Jersey accent and I'm not from South Jersey. My parents and all of my Aunts and Uncles are from there and it just slips out.
