As I was watching the video, I paused it to come down and comment about how much I liked the music! It really fits perfectly with the vibe of the game, and sounds fantastic. Looking forward to playing this game and hearing your music on my original C64 hardware :)
well, I share the love for the retro style, But I loved Ultima 1's first person perspective of dungeon crawling, I never fancied, the top down combat. although fun thing is that it is somewhat reminiscent of Heroes of might and magic and Kings Bounty. Oh and your music rocks! You nailed it.
@@Nordischsound love it, if there is a forum of music designers you are a part of I want to join, I make retro music as well, so I would be glad to share secrets ;)
This is really amazing! I have enjoyed all of your C64 stuff and I cant wait until this is done! Old school Ultima style RPGs are some of my favorites and something I've always wanted to make, though I'm not super great at 6502 ASM!! Just take my money!
Nice & poignant characters, GREAT FX & combat interface - love that the party becomes individuals once the gloves come off. Wonders undreamed of being worked yet again by the Queen of all Commodore
Whow, what a progress! I`m thrilled to play the finished Version! Keeps my mouth open! If U R in need of a german beta tester (I was involved in Eye of the Beholder and Civilization for the c64) please let me know.
I wonder if the rooms get some furniture later on , or if there might be small animations like with water, but all that doesn't matter as much as the story and progression. Since I love Ultima so much, and I miss the eight virtues. I hope it's going to be an epic tale again
Very fancy use of high resolution bitmap mode! The corner rounding of the edge of view is a fancy touch. I'm not sure, but the rendering seems like it's a bit zippier than Ultima IV or Ultima V ... which were just a tad slow for comfort. (Of course, they were rendering 11x11 view rather than 9x9 view, and maybe scrolling more text area.) For super fast rendering and scrolling, I'd be tempted to go with pure sprite tiles, as I'm a fan of the Ultima III/IV look (each tile is only a single color). I'd go with an 8x8 view (8*24 = 192px wide, 8*21 = 168px tall). Yeah, 8 is even, but the view could shift depending on whether you've been moving E/W, N/S. Racing the beam to update all 8 sprite colors before a badline isn't going to happen, so to avoid a scanline gap I simply don't bother with a 9th row of sprites (even though it would fit).
Amazing work! I was a ZX Spectrum guy back in the day, moving on to the Atari ST, then BBC Model B micro. I was a programmer for the first 20 years of my IT career, moving into management and then quitting shortly thereafter. I've always wanted to go back and create, like I used to as a kid. You've created something really cool here, well done! :)
I’ve wanted to ask for a long time, but now seems like the moment. If you were ever willing to come talk about this and your other games on the Lost Sectors, I’d love to talk to you about it!
This looks great! I've come back around to my old 128 and am gearing up to play Ultima IV remastered via the Kung Fu Flash cartridge. I'll keep an eye out for this one.
Oh my gosh I love this so much!! Wonderful! Can the characters in the game be modified or created? I'd so LOVE to create a party with the names Avatar, Dupre, Iolo and Shamino! :D For obvious reasons.
@@SarahAvory I didn't even realize this was you when I commented! Now I'm stoked even more, you are my favorite modern coder for the C64. Ultima 3, while not my first RPG was the one that hooked me in. Thank you for working on this!
Could also be situational. Not every town might be the welcoming type. They say there are shadows roaming the streets at night, people disappear, and all the birds have vanished. :D Signs of a struggle in a back alley and muddy footsteps that end in front of a wall.
it's such a pleasure to work with you. Sarah. most of the music is not finished yet and WIP but it's magical to see my music in your game.
Nice! Best collab possible!
thanks 😊@@root42
i LOVE the music ... 10/10
I'm really loving working on this game!😃🥰

Making me wanna fire up Legacy of the Ancients! Very nicely done! :D
Very nice! Feels like an updated Ultima, also slightly reminiscent of Traysia.
It's such a pleasure to work with you on this! I can't believe how good the characters looks once in game!
Wow, i came here for robostory and find this. So awesome . Thanks heaps
Love the combat, reminds me of the Goldbox games, but only one screen like Koudelka on PS1, the firestorm and lightning spell effect was bad ass!

I did the music here, glad you like it ☺️

Man, this is impressive. Great sound effects, music, and graphics -- the two-tone effect on characters is nice
Classic. Love the combat scene, especially the AOE system with the different intensity colour overlays.
Beautiful!

I'm blown away!!! Amazing game. Everything looks and sound brilliant. LOVE from Sweden! ♥🕹
This looks fantastic. It's like a mash-up of the Ultima and Phantasie series games. Great stuff.
Excellent! Love it Sarah!

Awesome work, can’t wait to play this! 😳❤
This looks and sounds awesome! The music definitely adds the atmosphere.
thanks, glad you like the music 🤗
This is looking and sounding great, I look forward to playing and reviewing it!
This looks so good! Day one purchase for me, Sarah! Nice work! 😍
This is very impressive. It has the Ultima formula but feels very much like its own thing. I can't wait to hear/see more about this!

So exciting to watch the progress!! You know you will have a certificate of completion signed by Noble Sarah Jane Avory when this is available.
As a person who still plays MUDs (text based online) this looks pretty cool! Great Job!

I am loving this, and I'm looking forward to playing it some day.
Nice! Has a nice Ultima look, but looks and performs better. Nice work!
This is amazing! Love the soundtrack
thanks, glad you like my music so far
Just looks superb, music is just awesome! This will be a Masterpiece!
thanks so much, I'm the Composer of the music and it is so amazing to work. wit Sara here together

Looks very good. Not an RPG fan, but this feels enticing. Great work as always.

It's getting better and better
Yay! Good luck with it!
Absolutely fantastic!
Thank you for doing what Unknown Realms couldn't do.
Consider yourself blocked by @StirringDragon, @UnknownRealmSDG and @IndieLauraSDG
A lot to appreciate here! Really smart graphics and sound and lobing the AoE effect on the fireball spell - excellent idea. Square-Enix look out!
that music is great! great atmosphere
Thanks so much, I did the music and enjoy every minute working together with sarah on this game. 😊🎹🎵🎶

Awesome music too!

Yes, you create a party from scratch, inputting names and selecting character classes.
Perhaps I need to post another video showing party creation.
Very Ultima!!! =D
Wow really impressive work. What are you using to code this all?
@dazamad I use notepad++ as my editor, VICE as my emulator, and then everything else is my own tool chain.
I Wish will be a disk version 😀
Sarah. I smell another hit! 👍🏻
Can't wait to play this.
Great work!
Looks incredible!
Looks great!
Awesome!
So awesome
Looks great and sounds great! Just curious. Is the overland map from Ultima 3?
Yes, I'm using it temporarily as a test map until the proper map gets done.

@sarah... Featured on IndieRetroNews yesterday ;)
Is this coming out before Briley 3? I'm excited either way.
Yes, this will be done before Briley 3.
Why such omnious music in the town? (Looks amazing, btw.)
The music for towns hasn't been done yet, so I'm using some music I do have.
Could also be situational. Not every town might be the welcoming type. They say there are shadows roaming the streets at night, people disappear, and all the birds have vanished. :D Signs of a struggle in a back alley and muddy footsteps that end in front of a wall.
Looks super nice! Too bad it's using 16x16 sprites else I could have saved you the trouble of drawing all that.
nice foursome
Looks like you work about 100x faster than StirringDragon while being 100x nicer
