The Mass is imperfect but not blasphemy partly because Leonard Bernstein wasn't a Roman Catholic. Only Believers know where to hit where it hurts., which was never Bernstein's intention anyway. The Mass is intensely idealistic. I speculate it has inspired more than a few conversions to Catholicism, which is about as far from blasphemy

Blasphemy! But then it is Fordham after all. Nothing Catholic going on there. This is a mockery not a reenactment of the holy sacrifice!

MASS is a musical theater work (as its subtitle indicates) not a religious service. Also, it deals with the theme of crisis of faith which many of us experience, and it nothing to be ashamed of, nor condemned. Questioning belief is a crucial aspect of the process of faith and belief. Something not only not to be criticized but respected as an indication that one is involved with a real confrontation with scripture, belief, and God. It is only through the crucible of doubt that faith is challenged, ultimately strengthened, and finally actualized at both the intellectual and gut levels.

@@highway80stories I question your belief in the "crucible of doubt".
