@@ThePrinceofkindfulness Yeah. I don't know if you know, but the ORIGINAL original demo from his website years ago was much slower than both these versions. Glad he ended up slowing it down a bit again :]
I just realized… the part where Zeus sings about how the infant will always discover his destiny is the same tune as when the sirens tell Odysseus how to escape Poseidon
I entered the fandom too late. I have zero attachment to the old versions. Living the dream. Prospering. Thriving. Enjoying having never even associated with a predatory company.
Same…except Warrior of the Mind because I discovered it earlier. I still like the original, but I listen to new one because I’d rather support the actual cast of Epic
The whole crux of this old vs. new debate is that if you enjoy the raw, emotional tenor of the old version, or if you prefer the vocal and instrumental refinery of the new one. Either way, both are still great, and people's cups of tea for different reasons.
Honestly, my favorite was listening to them at the same time in this video. It has such a cool effect when your layer the different versions. I probably will listen to the newer versions, though, just because the money is going to Jorge.
They both are equally great I prefer the background crew singing in the original, to me it sounds like an actual army singing where the new one you can tell it was a group of people
I'm fine with the new one, my only issue is that the choirs/chants of the soldiers don't sound as full (more like a group of like five people than an entire fleet) which kinda irks me as a HUGE fan of choirs Not too big of an issue, just mildly disappointing
My main thing I don’t like is how ody says I am the infamous Odysseus in the remake. Other then that I’m loving the emotion shown in the new version and the fact the voices aren’t as smothered by the music in the newer version
Yeah cause she showed that is a great way to fix that problem. If they for some reason won't give you your money for the songs then re release them under your own company so you get the money you deserve
I only prefer the old troy saga because of the natural aging progression of Jorge’s and everyone else’s voices as the sagas go on. It makes it feel more cohesive. I also agree that left ear sounds more like cast recording and right ear sounds more like how it would be on stage
I prefer the new one, though I can’t really tell which one sounds better listening to the old one means the epic cast does not get paid. Give mr jalapeño his money!!!

Hard agree. Horse and the infant was definitely better with the original version. The soldiers also sound more robotic and autotuned in the new version which I just don't like. It's distracting.
The biggest issue I have is what quite a few people have already said: Odysseus sounds older now, and i really liked him kind of growing up with with show. I do have more some specific thoughts though The Horse and the Infant I really didn't like at first, but it's grown on me quite a bit. I think I still prefer the original, but i don't dislike the new one at all Just a Man, I also agree with most of you. It was incredibly emotional and raw in the original, and now it kind of just feels like a song. Along with the other one though, it has grown on me Full Spead Ahead. How come no one ever talks about Eurylochus in this one??? Idk what he did different but I LOVE his new vocals Survive. I never particularly loved this song before the rerelease, and it is now my 3rd favorite song in the entire show. I dont know why, but it just feels so much more intense and raw and I LOVE it so so much Both versions of My Goodbye and Remember Them are amazing, but I never realized how much I really like the new versions until this video. But like, wow. The new ones are SO much better So generally, I think that I prefer the original Troy Saga. However, I think that the new Cyclops Saga is so amazing that it totally makes up for it. Either way, no matter what I prefer, I still think that every version is a masterpiece
Survive sounds more intense because each time Poly kills someone, you can *hear* them being crushed by the club. There's the sounds of gore and blood splattering and it sounds gruesome. Plus the two guys who get killed after Polites sound more fearful and gutteral. And Poly's updated vocals make *him* sound more menacing in both Polyphemus and Survive.
I LOVE the original songs to bits but I can understand why it had to be taken down now… I’ll miss the old ones a lot but hopefully I’ll like the new one ❤
When they are singing of going to the island, there is a very slight delay between the sides when singing of ody and poli going alone and it syncs back up perfectly at the end of "find a way no one ends up dead" and its so perfect like of all his disagreement with himself thats the one thing he wants
This is so helpful bc it eases the new version in without me having that uncanny valley feeling of it being the same but also not quite? Idk I appreciate the new version so much more after hearing it like this and a gokd thing too bc I've been listening the animatics for the longest time now
While i see what some people mean about feeling like there is more emotion in the old, its not a huge change, and i feel like you can hear the music and voice more distinctly in the new? And i want to actually support Jorge, so i will keep listening to the new.
I feel like the main difference is that the new one sounds more like how it would on stage, and the original sounds like the cast recording. (Which I prefer)
@@mandygibson5601another of that might just be the (I'm technically using this wrong) uncanny valley effect. The more I listen to the new ones, the more natural they sound.
Listening to the new is always going to be weird when you’ve looped the original. I personally can’t choose between the two. I decided to listen to the new version to support Jay and the Cast of Epic, but I love both versions!!
The thing that bothers me about the new version is the obvious increased use of autotune on the vocals. The originals had a raw, emotional quality to them that is unfortunately absent from the re-recordings.
this is so eye opening to me! i just stumbled upon this about a month ago and had no idea there even was an original version!! and looking at the comments for info? it’s crazy (but not surprising 🙄) that a company took advantage of jorge and everyone so horribly! i will say… other than the Just a Man i can’t really tell a difference 😅 at least nothing big enough to really impact me. it was fun going back and forth with my headphones tho! thank you for putting this video together 💖
I realise and respect an artist can grow and wanted to refine these first songs but there's a lot of parts that I really preferred the originals for. Wish the originals were still available on spotify :( odd choice to just get rid of them completely there
he made the new versions because the originals doesn´t give profit to him and the other singers, the studio is taking all of that and giving 0 to the creator.
I’m with you on that. I really prefer the original Horse and the Infant and Open Arms, and it wasn’t until I saw this comment that I realized they’re straight up gone. I get why it had to be done, but it does suck
I think Just a Man is the only one where the og makes me cry and the other just sounds like a song. I think something to do with the more stripped away sound of the og, not sure
Some little details made the Original better ( the soldiers voice , some little things here and there ) . Full Speed ahead ans tge horse and the Infant are the songs I like the most from EPIC so you can really feel the little difference
You can say all you want, but the second oddysyus is UNDEFEATED the amount of emotion and character that jorge put the second time is over the moon, its waaaaay bettrr than the original In the original we heard a boy in war, but in the second version we hear a GENERAL, a LEADER. He owned the character in ghe newer version and i die on it.
Okay but the line at 2:43 is so SO close to being perfectly matched and he does stuff like that throughout. It's so perfected and well done despite being recorded to much later, it must be so hard to do and must have taken so many takes to get some of these perfect. Jorge is astounding
I love that in the concept version you can hear ALL th vocals better, also the one on the right sounds more like a echo. In my opinion ive also been listening to on one the left mother the one on the right
It would be interesting to hear this with the other songs. (Especially Open Arms and any Athena song) Edit: Oh it’s all of them. I thought it was only The Horse and The Infant.
Blair Russell has to be a real asshole to steal money from someone as talented and nice as Jorge. Blessing in disguise tho, now Jorge owns his own company and the re-recordings sound better imo.
Honestly? I like the new ones more, but I genuinely think the Lotus Eaters are better in the old version? I don't know, I just personally liked the idea of like, an entire tribe surrounding the two instead of just a little troop of Eaters
thh i prefer the new one for basically everything BUT just a man. his voice sounds so much pleading and yet stern. the original will always give me goosebumps
The backing vocals are so much crisper in Jay's version. You don't have to strain to understand what they're saying and it makes it more impactful when the crew joins in on certain lyrics. Jay also has better diction in the new version. It feels more purposeful and like each word and phrase punches out with emotion.
This is a little bit of a moral dilemma, because I'm not sure which versions i like better, but i feel a moral need to listen to the new ones because they support Jay, as opposed to the old ones that the company stole the money to.
I kind of want this with the entire musical. We most likely won't get rerecordings for the rest of the sagas, but I kind of love the effect it has to have different versions in each ear.
Idk if anyone noticed but one Polyphemus and Different Beast, it starts with an arrow being shot. And in those 2 separate chapters, Polites died and Eurylochus died.
My only thing against it is odys last part. It sounded more genuine? In the original it just sounds like his angry in the new version idk if that makes sense
I liked the old version significantly more than the new version literally every time. I feel like I’m going crazy, everyone I see talks about how the new versions sound more emotional but they sound so flat to me lol. And the new instrumentation covers up the unique instruments for everyone, I can’t hear them as clearly. Am I alone here?
I personally think the new version is just as good. I think the delivery in some parts of the original are better while others are better in the newer version, it’s just a personal preference for me
I mean I don’t really see that much difference in the delivery as a whole. There’s moments in the new ones especially survive where I think the emotions come through a lot clearer. I’m also potentially wondering if with some people it’s more of a “change”thing cause I’ve seen some people talk about the pacing but based on this the pacing pretty much the same? Except for just a man. I ended up skipping that comparison cause it was a bit too much like an echo and couldn’t enjoy it like I could the other songs in this format
@@darknightumbreon8960 I was worried it was just that so I listened to each obsessively to make sure I wasn’t just being a grumpy old man about it. But the differences, while sometimes better (like you can tell he shoots the sheep with an arrow) really felt like a downgrade 🤷🏻♂️
"The Horse and the Infant" is simply perfect in its original version. You can't fix what isn't broken without ruining it a bit. "Just a Man" doesn't work in the new version; in the original you can feel the moment he decides to kill the child, and the instrumentation announces the gravity of the situation, and there's a sense of ominous foreboding to it. It's completely absent in the new one. The other two of this saga aren't actually that much worse. The Cyclops saga in general seems diminished by the fact that the soldiers sound like a perfect choir. The sort of chaos of battle of the older version is what made it so impressive. "Survive" is completely butchered by this, as it's supposed to be a surprise defense; "Remember Them" isn't as badly worsened. That said, I do love the newer version of My Goodbye. It's a different take on the emotions of Ody and Athena but it's also great. The experience the actors have gained really favors the emotion in their voices. On par, or even better than the original.
Honestly, I personally liked the originals better because Odysseus sounds younger, fitting into the timeline. He sounds older in the remakes and deeper compared to the Ocean Saga and the others afterward, only fitting in with the Thunder Saga. The remakes also sound a bit rushed to me, with the sound design being a bit all over the place. The only songs I like better than the originals are Open Arms and sort of Remember Them. If you like the remake better than that is very much a great thing! I’m just being particular and miss the originals. I’m not saying Jorge should’ve just not remade the originals because they were practically stolen by a cash-grabbing monster of a company. It sucks. And I fully support and appreciate what Jay and his team are doing. I just think they should’ve at least spent a bit more time on the remakes instead of hauling them out so soon after the Thunder Saga. A longer wait would’ve been just what the remakes needed to make me like them more. Again, if you like the remakes better, good for you! That’s great! I just think the originals sound better story-wise and production-wise. That’s all my own opinion. Thank you so so much for reading this comment cuz I know it’s just me bashing the remakes. So sorry to ruin your mood. Now get back to enjoying some bangers!
The crew saying, “It’s what lies in between.” 6:58, In the old version is my favorite because it feels more like a crew of men that say it with deep and powerful voice than in the new version where they just say it with little carry on the last word. But still both are phenomenal works of art!

So generally, I think that I prefer the original Troy Saga.
Vibin twice as hard now
I LOVE the original songs to bits but I can understand why it had to be taken down now… I’ll miss the old ones a lot but hopefully I’ll like the new one ❤
Same! I downloaded audio files of the old ones so I can still listen to them without paying a greedy company!
@@Personwtcats he removed them.
@@IMakeThings-h9c There's animatics for most of the old songs, that way you can listen AND have a visual
@@esther2734 yeah. I do that too, but I don't have youtube premium.
When the vocals pause and the bg music which is identical sound like surround sound, you know the syncing was done well
- well for some songs
When they are singing of going to the island, there is a very slight delay between the sides when singing of ody and poli going alone and it syncs back up perfectly at the end of "find a way no one ends up dead" and its so perfect like of all his disagreement with himself thats the one thing he wants
Omg im so glad you posted this bc I thought I was going crazy thinking I made the differences up in my head
My ears feel shiny
Dude I hear you.
SIX HUNDRED MEN (12 hundred men lol)
Best way to describe the feeling right here
Mine feel spronkly af
The combination in songs like Open Arms, The Horse and The Infant and Warrior Of The Mind makes them have a strangely enveloping atmosphere.
I think i'd be lying to myself if I said I didn't just click on this just so that I can listen to act 1 lol
This is so helpful bc it eases the new version in without me having that uncanny valley feeling of it being the same but also not quite? Idk I appreciate the new version so much more after hearing it like this and a gokd thing too bc I've been listening the animatics for the longest time now
Listening to Luke’s progression is crazy! He was way more consistent in Jorge’s version
While i see what some people mean about feeling like there is more emotion in the old, its not a huge change, and i feel like you can hear the music and voice more distinctly in the new? And i want to actually support Jorge, so i will keep listening to the new.
I think I needed this cuz I can't tell the difference
There are some notable differences. Such as how the new version with the soldiers feels too exclusive to Odysseus’ crew.
@@coinbash626 huh, interesting. I didn't notice that before. I'm going to keep my ears alert for that. Thank you!
@@mandygibson5601 i do think they fit more with the other sagas, and people just need to get used to them!!
I like having them both combined. That way we get the best of both worlds!
Listening to the new is always going to be weird when you’ve looped the original. I personally can’t choose between the two. I decided to listen to the new version to support Jay and the Cast of Epic, but I love both versions!!
Did anyone else keep switching between earbuds?
Yup
Just a man sounds like you're listening to this song at a concert outside and the mic is echoing
The thing that bothers me about the new version is the obvious increased use of autotune on the vocals. The originals had a raw, emotional quality to them that is unfortunately absent from the re-recordings.
I wonder what this sounds like without ear buds... it's midnight so I can't find out right now 😂
this is so eye opening to me! i just stumbled upon this about a month ago and had no idea there even was an original version!! and looking at the comments for info? it’s crazy (but not surprising 🙄) that a company took advantage of jorge and everyone so horribly! i will say… other than the Just a Man i can’t really tell a difference 😅 at least nothing big enough to really impact me. it was fun going back and forth with my headphones tho! thank you for putting this video together 💖
@@adriel8498 ohh I didn't know, that's awful
I’m with you on that. I really prefer the original Horse and the Infant and Open Arms, and it wasn’t until I saw this comment that I realized they’re straight up gone. I get why it had to be done, but it does suck
same
@@rayneingdown You can listen to the animatics if you miss the old versions
Wow, the harmonizing...
I actually feel most of the Troy saga songs are better in the original, except for Warrior of the mind. Cyclops saga sounds really better now
Oh thats funny, the only song I full on prefer from the og is worior of the mind
@@blueping9278 thise little differences will feel more natural over time, I hope
@@blueping9278really? I think the crews voices are more impactful/clear in the newer version
You can say all you want, but the second oddysyus is UNDEFEATED
the amount of emotion and character that jorge put the second time is over the moon, its waaaaay bettrr than the original
In the original we heard a boy in war, but in the second version we hear a GENERAL, a LEADER. He owned the character in ghe newer version and i die on it.
listening to this without earbuds is so scary
It is strange that he seems like he has two voices, wich reminds me of the monster inside him, like if it was talking too. Thats scary 🫣
The only thing I miss is that there were wemon singing in the chorus during the horse and the infant. It just sounded better imo.
Okay but the line at 2:43 is so SO close to being perfectly matched and he does stuff like that throughout. It's so perfected and well done despite being recorded to much later, it must be so hard to do and must have taken so many takes to get some of these perfect. Jorge is astounding
18:12 OKAY BUT THE TWO ODYS TOGETHER IS HEAVENLY
19:57 ITS BETTER IN SURVIVE OMGS
My schizophrenia needed this
I love that in the concept version you can hear ALL th vocals better, also the one on the right sounds more like a echo. In my opinion ive also been listening to on one the left mother the one on the right
I honestly prefer the old cyclops voice, it felt more creepy and I felt it fit him more
Is there a difference? Sounds pretty much the same to me.
It would be interesting to hear this with the other songs. (Especially Open Arms and any Athena song) Edit: Oh it’s all of them. I thought it was only The Horse and The Infant.
Blair Russell has to be a real asshole to steal money from someone as talented and nice as Jorge. Blessing in disguise tho, now Jorge owns his own company and the re-recordings sound better imo.
ok, i thought this would just be weird but i put my earbuds in anyways and its actually kind of awesome
This is so weird at one point, as it just makes my head feel weird but on another this is absolutely a God sent masterpiece.
I like the new lotus eaters, they seem more just like some funky little guys
I love this but now i have to hear polites die twice 😭
Am i the only one who finds just a man so relaxing
This is a little bit of a moral dilemma, because I'm not sure which versions i like better, but i feel a moral need to listen to the new ones because they support Jay, as opposed to the old ones that the company stole the money to.
I kind of want this with the entire musical. We most likely won't get rerecordings for the rest of the sagas, but I kind of love the effect it has to have different versions in each ear.
The new ones are definitely better for the sake of the musical, sounds more like a stage performance and it’s amazing for my little brain.
Fascinating to listen to without earbuds lol
Anyone else notice that in survive, polythemus's name is sung in the beginning? And probably in the 'Danger is nearby motif'?
No?
Just me??
Ok
Sounds pretty cool even not trying to compare them,
I prefer the new ones by a bunch.
Same
Same the emotion that shines through in the new ones is just chefs kiss. Especially in survive at the end? Chills literally chills
Idk if anyone noticed but one Polyphemus and Different Beast, it starts with an arrow being shot. And in those 2 separate chapters, Polites died and Eurylochus died.
I came back to Epic after almost a year, when I came back, I kept wondering why I kept getting the timing off😭
I thought I was going insane, but no the video holds true. One in one ear, other in the other ✨️ Nice job!
ugghh remember them sounds SO MUCH BETTER NOW. The EMOTIONS. The FLAVOR.🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
My only thing against it is odys last part. It sounded more genuine? In the original it just sounds like his angry in the new version idk if that makes sense
WHAT?!! I'm so confused right now. Don't you hear, for example, how the first sung "remember them" in the new song is just so off?
I liked the old version significantly more than the new version literally every time. I feel like I’m going crazy, everyone I see talks about how the new versions sound more emotional but they sound so flat to me lol. And the new instrumentation covers up the unique instruments for everyone, I can’t hear them as clearly. Am I alone here?
I personally think the new version is just as good. I think the delivery in some parts of the original are better while others are better in the newer version, it’s just a personal preference for me
i agree
@@CosmereInformant I mean each to their own. Which is what I love about this fandom/comment section. We discuss things but like respectfully
On par, or even better than the original.
there's also less bass in the new versions which really hurts Survive in particular I feel when the club starts coming down
this!!!
I liked the newer The Horse and the Infant
I.... am having a really hard time telling the difference
It’s really a shame what happened because the originals still sound better
This is great. I feel like in the remaster Ody sounds world-weary already instead of excited and ambitious.
Oh god. The only two songs where I think the changes are really bad. So weird we have completely opposite views.
The crew saying, “It’s what lies in between.” 6:58, In the old version is my favorite because it feels more like a crew of men that say it with deep and powerful voice than in the new version where they just say it with little carry on the last word. But still both are phenomenal works of art!
Am i the only one who can barely tell the differnece (for most songs) if they aren't overlaid like here? People sayng the songs are sooo different now are lying lmao
Two Histories, One lives yet,
The Tale pushes on, like the Storm that brough them to the Giant's Island,
Despite the delay and resistance.
