Lessons in how to handle an interview would be a great place to start. But to be honest, coaching on personal finance and possibly some forced saving of their earnings for young professional athletes would be a great addition to their lives. How many pros are found to be bankrupt after they leave the sports world having earned millions of dollars? It is rare to see a young pro make good use of that money. A few I'm aware of: Mel Farr from 50 years ago signed a contract with the Lions that demanded he receive training in the retail car business. He spent his off seasons as a car salesman, then manager, then dealership owner. The Lions also had a rookie receiver that despite his contract, his wife and him had committed to each other to live on a salary of $67K. This was reveled when he had an accident in his 20 year old beater from when he was in high school. Understanding how to handle money would go a long way for these young people.

Lebron was a very good defensive player though.
      Harden and Westbrook also.
They are also all pretty tall - big : Which means they can guard a lot of players. What Westrbook lacks in height, he has incredibly explosive athleticism and burst.
Clark does not possess that - most all would admit.
Caitlin #1. Is not big at all. 2) she doesn't have great speed like Kelsey Plum etc.
      3) BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY in her negatives; She often DOES NOT EVEN TRY on defense. (If you need detailed confirmation: I saw a game last month where I counted FIVE times at least that caitlin was right at the rim but just let her opponent go right in for a layup - no contesting the shot. NO heart, no effort to even make the shot difficult or use one of her 6 fouls
She gets riled up and motivated when she dislikes someone: Like Angel Reese in the LSU game or Chicago SKy game. But even then she's sometimes lazy on defense - Reese caught that BOMB full court pass over Clarks head bc she wasn't trying on defense.
This is a problem. SHe will need to improve.

    • @javierdelgado1554
      @javierdelgado1554 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Exactly, I had the same thought....you have to factor in how much she handles the ball and the fact she's just a rookie and learning her new teammates and system...now that she's settled in more I'm sure she will cut back on some of those turnovers...she had one last game where she stepped on the sideline on a shot attempt...don't know if that one counted as a turnover though.

  • @kpmac1

Reese is the least polished Rookie of the Year candidate I've ever seen in any sport. She's completely awkward out there and not in a Jokic kind of way. Instead of shooting, she just flings the ball at the basket - sometimes without even looking. I've seen people compare her shooting percentage with Clark's and saying that somehow means Reese is better. Makes me think these people don't even know basketball. A 2 foot shoot is always a higher percentage shot than a 20+ footer.

Most of the others (5 of 6) picked AJai Wilson who I started watching this year and she is superb. Very different player- big- plays a Tim Duncan like power forward. She’s also much older - late 20s- and she is going to be MVP. I would probably go youth and Clark but I can see Wilson being picked. Hakeem Olajuwon is a great player, arguably the best center of his era and among the greatest of all time, hall of famer. His rookie year he had 20.6 PPG and 11.9 RPG, 2.7 BPG, 4th in the league in rebounds per game, 2nd in blocks per game. Took a losing team the prior year to the playoffs. Amazing stats, a great season by any metric, and most seasons probably would win RotY going away. But he happened to be in the same draft class as some guy named Michael Jordan. It's no slight on Angel Reese if Clark wins the award and people need to stop finding excuses for her to be in the discussion. This WNBA rookie class is one of the best of all time. Decades from now people will talk about how deep it was and how many great players and future all stars were in it, how it changed the perception and viewership of the W. Angel Reese will absolutely have a great career and be regarded as a star for decades to come. But there's one player who is doing things that nobody else is doing, has ever done.
Turnovers? Clark is going to average 4-5 or so every season of her career, because she is always looking for an easy basket for her teammates and insists on having the ball to start every possession, and other teams will continue to completely alter their defensive gameplan to try to slow her. Everyone pointed to it in college too, like her creating 20-30 points a game through her passing alone while other teams sold out to try to slow her down didn't justify a turnover or two more over the mean. Led one of the highest scoring offenses in the NCAA, despite constant double teams, box-and-1s, facing the full focus of the best defender on every squad. Her average this season will be high, simply because of the growing pains of the early season skewing the numbers, but she's got it back down to around where it was all four years of college over the past month or so, and it'll get even lower over the next few years as she hones her handle and understanding of the defenses and defenders she's facing.
Nah, Caitlin Clark is where the conversation starts and ends. Anybody with eyeballs who is watching the games and not just reading box scores can see it.

1.) Every great rookie has to put in their time on a bad team look at Wembanyama. The Fever had the #1 pick for a reason.
2.) I'd rather see the Fever players get better and gel like the Nuggets vs ring chasing and building a superteam.

Clark is the first WNBA rookie to post 400+ points, 150+ assists, and 100+ rebounds in a season. Basically, the best all-around rookie of all time, and there are still at least 15 more games to go. It’s not complicated.

They come back to 11 more games after the break. Rest and practice with team will, I expect, make a vastly improved team that has already turned the corner. She will obliterate the rookie records and the W assists record.

Sure she didn't have the best shooting night, but fk, I rather have her shot the ball than anyone else.
