Lot of work being drum tech I recently watched what Neil Perts drum tech also had to before shows monumental tasks these guys have to do no way the drummer himself can do by himself major props 🥁🤘

As a 50-year-old retired professional drummer I got my start in the business as a tech. It was honestly one of the best things I could have ever done because that opened all the doors to the playing opportunities. Plus when you work for others, you learn how to treat people when you're on the other side of the fence and people work for you. I was never mean to my tech's but I can't say the same for the people I worked for. Rule number one and always remember it "be nice"!!! Lastly as a tech use glass cleaner for your final application when you're cleaning your cymbals. It gets all the cymbal cleaner off plus you get a better shine.
I want to know how many crash cymbals Jay goes through. He rides that right hand crash for a lot of songs and I can only imagine he’ll crack at least one every 2 shows.
I have the same crash, and I hit it just as hard as him and so far I’ve only broken 1 and it took a year, they’re surprisingly resistant for how hard I hit them

I actually don't like the 20" terribly much once I got it (it sounds way better when Jay uses it with the Knot). But my 18 sits at the front right the same as Jays 20 to crash and ride on, and I fuckin LOVE it, I have had it for a few years at this point, never cracked it once. Easily my favorite cymbal I've ever had. I use to break cymbals all the time when I was younger, its a technique problem mostly. But I got better and don't really break cymbals very often anymore, but then again they are cymbals, some are bound to break at some point regardless. But Jay and those guys are on another level, with the type of music being played, the type of performance that must be put on, add in the fact to replace the $400 cymbal is a non-issue, plus his cymbals get polished every single show, I'm sure he cracks a few of them each tour.
Putting microphones in the drums is such an underrated characteristic from a playing perspective. Just takes away the risk of hitting the microphones while playing
It also helps with the sound because you don’t have as much cymbals bleeding into the Tom mics, it takes a few minutes longer to set up but it’s so worth it.

Of course, drummers know how to build their own setup. The techs build it the way the musicians need it. But when you play such a big show like Slipknot for example, you just don't have the possibility to do it all by yourself. It's not ONLY setting up and playing, as you can see there's a lot more involved in that! Plus sometimes it happens that directly after the shows everything has to be dismantled and brought to the next city, to the next gig. There you need as a musician people who take this over for you, I presume that after their shows their have simply no longer the strength to do that all by themselfes. It's not just playing that a professional musician encounters there. You have to prepare yourself, maybe you have interviews or other public appearances (besides the concerts).
