I am really loving these videos! I've learned more about zoo animals this way. These presenters are fabulous! It's obvious they love the animals & have a special bond with them. Appreciate hearing all the behind the scenes care that the animals receive. Thank you & stay healthy!
Fun to learn so much about all the animals you have there, especially while we’re forced to stay home but even when we’re not. Thank you for these videos.
I had a chance to feed one of the giraffes when I visited the zoo over a year ago. One of the younger giraffes walked away from the viewing area and ended up feeding Tessa! Thanks for the video.
I learned so much! These are some of my favorite animals (of course I say this after every video). Thank you so much for bringing all this goodness to us!
We once went to a zoo...I don’t remember which one...and the giraffes were in an enclosure where they could reach the people. One licked my face and when I turned around to tell my family she rested her head on my shoulder and chest. She really enjoyed the scratchiest I gave her...animals and children, that’s me, lol.
The 'animal friends' (?) at Cincinatti zoo seem to be in a class of their own! They must be exhausted at the end of these videos! But, they make videos that are watchable and interesting for young and old. Kudos to them. Why are there so few men doing this great work?
Love and appreciate all that you all do with the Wildlife at the Zoo...My Grandson and I enjoy all these videos to educate us on the animals in our world...... Again Thank you for all your time and knowledge...♥️
There are seven subspecies of giraffes. They eat primarily leaves and twigs from acacia, mimosa and wild apricot trees. They will also eat fruits. Giraffes have excellent vision, hearing and sense of smell. One of the few species that see in color. Humans cannot hear most of the communication between giraffes. They communicate infrasonically with moans and grunts to low for humans to hear. Giraffes usually sleep standing up but do lie down sometimes. Giraffes hum to to each other at night. They can run up to 35 miles an hour. They are related to the Okapi that live in the forests of the DRC Democratic Republic of the Congo, in Africa. They are endangered. Females can get up to 14 feet tall and weight up to 1,500 pounds. Males grow up to 18 feet tall and weigh up to 3,000 pounds. When babies are born they weigh 100 to 150 pounds. It takes 14 months before the baby is born. Within one hour of being born the baby can walk. It takes 4 years for a baby to grow to adult. For the first 6 months after being born they drink only their mothers milk. After that babies eat leaves. If the baby is to small a mom will pick leaves to feed the baby. Giraffes can eat 75 pounds of food a day.
But again, A sub-species is NOT a species, despite what they falsely claim in the video. A sub-species is a subgroup within a species, hence the prefix "sub"
@@kenyonbissett3512 You used the correct word. I have no issue with your comment. I was more commenting about the Video which tried to erroneously state that subspecies were species
Rhonna Marsden In the wild it’s typically 20-25 yrs. in human care it can be longer than that. But usually it’s mid to late 20s sometimes early thirties.
Robin Briggs They usually live into their teens & early 20s. In the wild it’s 20-25 yrs in human care it can be longer than that, sometimes late twenties but that’s generally the lifespan, early to late twenties.
Robin Briggs Yes they do. If they lay down too long because of their size they could put pressure on organs plus unless they were injured or something like that, laying down would leave them vulnerable to predators.
Beautiful giraffes and smart!! So lovable with gorgeous big brown eyes!!!
In these dark days, our family looks forward to these Zoo videos each day. Thank you for doing these!
