I visited a Swedish zoo where we got to meet the meerkats and even hand feed them a little bit of cat food.
It's just an amazing feeling to feel those little paws on your hand and have them climbing on you literally. That's why I love meerkats, and even lemurs.
They're not afraid to interact with humans.😊
I'm sure everyone else would agree, you can really tell how much the keepers enjoy working and taking care of all of these great animals.!
I've loved Meerkats siince the series Meerkat Manor came out a few years back.

this series is so incredible. such an incredible and great response to the coronavirus disaster. i can't thank you enuf for this series. i love this zoo so much and i have never been there but i am so invested in all of you, especially in this time of tribulation for us. i am invested in all the animals and all the workers there i can't tell you how much. you have fiona to thank for me getting to know this zoo. someday when this is over im going to meet them in person. all of them. this series is so great. brilliant idea keeping your audience despite these tragic events of social distancing, quarantine and etc. the footage is so great. spending time with the animals with them so unselfconscious about our presence is just so incredible. and i am so happy for them they have such a groovy pad and a soft low pressure life. lucky guys as long as the food holds up. god help us all get through this pandemic so we can take care of our animals, our loved ones, take care of the planet with love.

I love, love, love Meerkats. This little family looks well taken care of by the zoo personnel. One suggestion to the zoo, you might want to give them a huge sand pile to dig in. The ground looks pretty hard in their enclosure.

I fell in love with meerkats the first time I saw them. That wasn’t until the mid eighties, but they fascinate me. I love their mob-bond...that’s a new phrase you can use...Mob~Bond! I have see a couple of great documentaries starring meerkats. And of course who could leave out Timon who’s favorite bugs were the, quote,unquote, Cream Filled Ones, lol. You have a great mob of ‘kats and I can see they think your pretty special too!! Who ever thought there could be competition to vie for the most love💕 I am sooo jealous! Keep up the great work Mob Mama❤️ PS They definitely deserve their own emoji!! 🦗🦗🦗

I'm pursuing doctorates in astrophysics and applied Mathematics, and I believe the word you would have wanted was _reflection_ instead of refraction. Refraction means to bend light through different mediums. But in this case neither word would have applied.
Studies have shown that the eye black worn by those football players is effective as anti-glare because black absorbs all wavelengths of light. Thus, when there's no glare, that increases the contrast of the objects which makes them easier to see. So in essence, there's no light-bending or reflection going on. All light coming in is being absorbed.
BTW, I fell in love with Meerkats when Meerkat Manor was on, and I literally cried for 2 solid weeks when Flower distracted that snake away from her pups and she got bit and died, but her pups lived.

Kay Tinsley she is a good trainer. She works with the giraffes too. She helped with their home safari video as well. I think she just truly loves the animals and that love and caring comes out when she is with them. And yes the meerkats were so adorable. Loved the little noises they made

Kenyon Bissett All AZA accredited zoos have a place where animals can retreat and be safe whether hawks or people. Plus, meerkats do have a sentry for a pretty good reason.

Why do they have those spots on their backs. Weston- Age 6
The spots are for camoflage, which is a fancy word for being hard to see. The spots help them hide from predators like hawks by helping them blend in with their surroundings, which in the wild would be deserts and dry scrubland.

In regards to their sentinels. Does rank play any sort of role in who functions as a sentinel or how often they perform as a sentinel? Example does the lowest/highest ranking members perform as sentinel just as often as the other?

I want to be a zookeeper and work with meerkats as well.
But if you put their flea control between their shoulderblades like dogs and cats, don't you have to separate them? I would think that they would lick it off of each other. That's why you need to separate or keep separate cats and dogs that live in close quarters after you apply it.

I looked at a few science websites, and it seems they are most closely related to the civet and the mongoose. They are in the same family.

the relationship being that the merkat is immune to some snake bites and a mongoose can even hunt a cobra.
