On "My Car Story" we're in Suburbs of Phoenix AZ on 9-10-21.
We're looking at a 1967 Pontiac Convertible in Tyrol Blue Paint. The car features the factory 400 CI V8 engine.
The car's Owner is John Moll. John’s had this car since 1995. He shares was looking to buy a Muscle Car as he felt he missed that back in the 1960’s & 1970’s and found this car and it was exactly what he was hoping for.
    ENJOY!

Lou what beauty! I remember my dad taking me to the Pontiac dealer on a Sunday afternoon to sneak a peak through the service bay door at the "new" Firebird. It was hidden in there as they had just received it and Pontiac wasn't allowing them on the showroom floors in anticipation of the big splash! It was a very big deal! Fond memories... It was and still is a very cool car.

The 1967 model year was the lightest year they were made, and also the only year to feature the front vent windows. The Firebird and the Camaro were both built on the same chassis. The 1968 eliminated the vent windows, added side marker lights, and the cars were slightly heavier than the previous year. This is a beautiful example featured.

The 1967 was 80 lbs lighter than the 1968. An odd marketing thing for 1967 Firebird 400 and 1967 Camaro 396 was the Firebird 400 was available with the standard 400 and the 400 Ram Air, but in 67 the 400 HO wasn't available in the Firebird. In the 1967 Camaro, the 325hp and 375hp 396 engines were available, but the 350hp 396 wasn't available in 67 Camaro. The 400 HO was available in the 67 GTO and the 350hp 396 was available in the 67 Chevelle. These restrictions were for 1967 only.

I can still remember when the Firebird was introduced. I was in 5th grade and already an absolute car nut. I liked the Firebird over the Camaro although I will admit in ‘69 they built the coolest Camaro.

Hi, Lou! This first Firebird was introduced in February 1967, five months after the Camaro. It came in a choice of five engines. The standard Firebird came with the standard overhead cam six, which was engineered by John DeLorean and released for the 1966 model year. The Firebird Sprint carried a more potent version of the OHC six. Then there was the 326 V-8, the hotter version of which gave you a Firebird HO, and finally the 400. Besides the differences with the marker lights and turn signals, the 1968 versions deleted the vent windows. John's car looks fabulous in Tyrol Blue and it definitely compensates for him missing out on the muscle car era!
Many thanks to you and the King of the Road for another amazing car story and ride!

Always nice to see a local guy's car featured. I had a 67 Firebird convertible, same blue but blue custom interior with power top and fold down rear seat, however it was a 326 with 2-speed auto. I started high school in 1970 so I too missed the opportunity to be an "original owner" to one of these cars. Also had a 69 Firebird carousel red convertible with parchment interior. Currently own a 74 Trans Am buccaneer red with white deluxe interior. Pontiacs are still my favorite car. Thanks to Lou and the owner for another great car story

Mechanically it's great and a good example of a first gen Firebird. My late father purchased the car in '71 from the local Ford dealership after the original owner traded it for a '72 Ford Torino (hardtop) ??? of all things. LOL. It's been part of the family since. Keep up the great work with the videos.

Nice ride. I have owned many muscle cars over the years, they were cheap and available in the early to mid 80's when I was in high school. But, my heart was always with the Firebirds. I have a 67' 400 4-speed option delete (0 options). It has 16,241 actual miles and sport the original Silverglaze lacquer paint. I'm the second owner (21 years) and the car has never been stored outside and never driven in poor weather since it was bought on June 17, 1967. It's an Ohio car with no rust. My tail panel is black- I think all 400 option firebirds came with a black tail panel but most were converted to body color when repainted. I love the fact that no matter how large the car show (think Goodguys) there are virtually no 67' very few 68's and not many 69 Birds but they are a well known and popular model.

Lou, I did a full restoration on one of these cars as well but it's a 4-speed car. We found it in a Bar Harbor Maine garage. It was never registered and only did drag racing it's entire life with a 455 engine. Luckily, the previous owner still had the original 400 engine that was removed the day after the car was bought new. The car was/is dark green with a black interior with a black top. No A/C though. Today, the car is exactly as it was when new from the factory. The car has never seen snow and now only driven once in a while during warm weather months. Odd that this Firebird has a manual top. The one I restored, had a power top.

What an awesome treat! It does have a great blue metallic color, as well to it. Personally, i’ve always been a tremendous fan of the Pontiac’s first generation of Firebird models, especially during that particular time period. Although, i’ve never really been much of a convertible kind of guy, i really like this particular Firebird 67, mainly with it’s white vinyle top on. It does have a sporty look to it. Considering that this classic all time beauty has a 400 cubic inch motor under the hood, i can still recall, when General Motors use to built these cars, with a 350 standard engine, or even with a 396 optional.Thank! you so much, Lou! You’ve really surpassed yourself once again. Have yourself a Merry little Christmas and a very Happy New Year 2022. Johnny, Montréal, Canada 🇨🇦🎁🎅🙏👍💖😁

Nice, I always loved first gen Firebirds. I'd venture to say that car is worth alot of money now.
Could have bought a '68 ht with a 400 in '77. Nice car. Little late night road test the owner had it skipping over the rough roads in our neighborhood.
$1400. Would have nearly drained my savings. Passed.
Heard less than a month later the rear end blew.

What a beautiful and classic Firebird-just so beautiful and bird-like and cool. Clean lines and so much character to that pointed hood. And that back seat? Ha! My floppy sneakers would fly off as my tubesocked stocking feet became airborne 'n kicked-so many chicks, so little time....:):) God bless you and John, big bro. Thanks Lou! :) JV Johnny

A NYC boy but always had the Milwaukee Brewers as my big bro baseball heroes when I was growing up in the 70's and 80's. Robin Yount was my # 1 hero and I tried to play like him (not so much lol!), but since I look like him and wear my tubesocks pulled up high like him I did quite well in the chick department lol! Gotta keep it JV, Lou ;). :) JV Johnny 😁⚾
