On "My Car Story" we're in Phoenix AZ on 1-27-24.
We're looking at a 1968 Ford Thunderbird in Summer Rain Metallic Blue Paint. The car comes with the 429 CI V8 engine and an automatic transmission.
The car's Owner is Kelly Castle. Kelly’s had this car since 2017. Kelly has a love for late 1960’s Thunderbirds since he had one in High School and now restored them. He also has 5 late 1960’s Thunderbirds. He shares he found this car pretty much uncared for at the top of a pile of dirt and bought is for $1250.00. He decided he had a 429 engine at his shop, and stated to fix it up with correct factory parts from a 1967, a 1968, and a 1969 Thunderbird, so I’ve named this car “The Combo Bird”. This is the most striking looking late 1960’s Thunderbird I’ve ever seen.

The '66-'67 Charger was supposed to have similar turn signals but it was dubbed too costly for Dodge.
I never ever approve of modifying a classic car. That said, I think this just may be the most beautiful car I’ve ever seen. Bravo!!!

How impressive does this 1968 Ford Thunderbird look in that "Summer Rain Metallic Blue" paint in the sunlight! I liked the front with the bird symbol adorning the flat grill that hides the attractive retractable headlights; apart from the elegant white roof and the long, one-piece rectangular guide with the Thunderbird letters in the middle. The interior looks very elegant; from the doors with that large chrome bird logo, to its stylized white seats next to the black console and its wood-framed instruments. Finally, that final shot of the tour was very beautiful; where you could see the beautiful paint on the hood shining along with that hill in the background! Congratulations to its owner, Kelly Castle, for successfully combining parts from those three Thunderbirds models, and achieving this beautiful and unique "The Combo Bird"! Best regards, Lou!

Best looking Prius paint job ever! These Thunderbirds are beautiful cars that have aged very well. Talk about personal luxury - It doesn't get better than this for Ford Motor Company in that category!

Hello Lou! I'm really loving your stories on the fifth-generation Thunderbirds! You might as well say this T-Bird is three cars in one! A '68 with a '69 grille and taillights from a '67. Now that's a very great way to modify a classic car - keeping it all Ford. No tacky aftermarket products! And the owner seems to be a fan of the '67-'71 Thunderbirds. I'd love to see a '70 or a '71 'Bird, Lou, if you haven't done one yet.

I had a ‘67 Fairlane 2-dr hardtop. It was a similar color, called “Clearwater Aqua”. It was a gorgeous car, especially when the windows were rolled down.
It’s got a one two punch combination that’s pretty potent.

Wow, I didn't realize he still had one left to share. How many is this now, is this all 5? That's pretty cool he used up his left over parts and made a best of 5th gen tribute, mix. I wouldn't have done it to my '68 but since he's got 5, well, why not mix it up a bit anyway? hahaha It's all easy bolt on changes, minus the rear reflectors, but that would still only require drilling a couple holes to add them also. I like it just the way it is. That's a nice metallic blue. If he doesn't like the RV cam, he wouldn't the thumper cam in mine haha.

The engine really sounds muscular for a luxury car.
You're right.
He did something here I would never do! I have liked certain things about different years of cars that the model was similar for a run of three or for years. The 49, 50, 51 Ford were pretty much the same car, but each was different in the front 49 had block letters spelling out Ford on the hood above the bullet cone in the grill, the 50 had the Ford Crest logo instead of the block letters. The 51 the grill was completely changed. This practice of changing the grills continued with the 52, 53, and 54. Also, the 55 and 56. Starting in 57, the main Ford full-size model changed completely every year into the seventies. However the Thunderbird, Falcon, Mustang, Fairlane, Torino, Mercury Comet all had generations of the car where the body was tweaked slightly and the best indication of what year the car was was the front grill. The second thing was the federally required safety features. I would never mix the years up. If it is a 68, then every part on the car should be a 68 part. I noticed you only talked about the different years on the exterior. The interiors had some slight diferences, too. That steering wheel, I believe, was a 69 steering wheel.

Hmmm, I think so. Hoping a Viewer with knowledge can share.
A "hub cap" covers just the hub and lug nuts. A " wheel cover" covers the entire wheel to the rim. This T Bird has wheel covers. I'm usually not this picky but you have become the go to guru and should have proper nomenclature.
