This is the Layne I like to remember. He was such a badass here, Layne "Don't fuck with me" Staley (not an easy audience to play for...kudos to all of the band for such a courage). RIP Layne & Mike Starr
Layne was the only one in all the rock n roll history, better live than studio version. Best singer, performance and voice. Incredible and underrated 🖤 #LayneStaley Forever
No, you just prefer live music. Live is a different canvas than studio. Studio is cold product. Live is hot. Libe will always be more energetic, raw, and if the band is good more powerful than possible in studio .
Meet Layne the Legend! He changed the lyrics to the "Layne's pissed" version of Man in the Box, Jerry followed suit changing his backing vocals and then Layne threatened to personally kick someone's ass in the crowd and MEANT IT until a roadie sidetracked him. I miss bad ass Layne.
Layne wasn’t taking no shit that night 🤣 he went after several people in the audience all while laying down 1 of the best rock live vocal performances in history. Big balls and talent!!!
This show is proof that even with crap audio quality you simply cannot bury a Spector NS-2 in a mix! RIP Mike Starr...you and your tone will be missed.
I was at this show in 91 at Weedsport. It was a time of recession so big bands were packaging up and touring. AIC was great but opening for Slayer is never easy. AIC did a great job rocking hard for a very tough audience who came to cut their teeth on metal. I am proud to say I saw this show and am grateful to relive it through this vid.

01/22/2023 This is one of my favorite looks that Layne had. At this time, Layne probably did not know all of the trends he was starting, from ripped jeans, hairstyles, wearing sunglasses indoors, etc..,and and then back again to music. I know his voice was all the rave and was used in the vocal mix of many a countless vocalist, aka, studio work. A reliable source once told me that when Layne’s hair was cut, it was against his will, something about losing a bet that Layne actually won. Ask Sean K. He knows! Layne is always beautiful, no matter how he wore his hair, but at that time, Layne was not conscious of that fact---
He's in heaven, if such a place exists. Now the people condemning him to Hell on the other hand, who knows where their judgemental asses will end up 😒.
But what actual real fan and lover of Layne Staleys music and true heart n soul would want to beat on him for ANY reason??? The fella had enuff pain in his heart to start with without a so called "fan" wanting to fight him? I'm sure he'd hold his own but would still hurt him on the inside afterwards... How about wanting shake his hand and thank him for their wonderful, soul-healing music and thank him for just being him???
Was this really the same guy who sang in the MTV Unplugged in 96 damn. From the Layne "IDGAF" Staley to a skinny depressed vulnerable guy it's super sad. Heroin is the devil's powder.
They were booing him, and telling him to fuck off, you suck, all that shit that metal heads do when they hear "new" styles of music. I saw them on this tour, not at this location, but it happened in Miami too. You gotta remember too, everyone was into GnR, Slayer, Anthrax, etc. Seattle was just starting to blow up, I liked 'em, just didn't know 'em. But I damn sure wasn't disrespectful like most people.
Neal Däämkjær so true. I saw Metallica in ‘88? Anyway, Faith No More opened up and the metal heads just didn’t understand anything out of their narrow ear. I loved FNM and Metallica that show. Too bad some people get stuck in their own music bias
One of the best four piece bands ever. Heavy, Layne’s unearthly vocals and with Jerry’s backing vocals and harmonies just took everything next level. Mike Starr with his hammer of the gods and Kinney in the groove a monster behind the kit. AIC can’t be compared to any other band.
Jerry changing lyrics in man in the box and singing them causally like it's totally the lyrics of the song. and Layne, where do I start with Layne, A True powerful Voice and presence, a complete Badass, sweet and down to earth but when you fuck up you're gonna end up down in a hole in the box feeling so lonely till you end up in them bones. Real thing this concert was amazing as much as it's fun and funny. Rest in peace Layne staley and Mike Starrr
🏁🏁🏁🎯THANK YOU and God bless you a million times for posting this great and 💯 rare video footage. Not seeing AIC in concert is one of my biggest concert regrets, ever. They were so great here. They're great now too. Just with Layne and Mike though, my God. My friends and I had the tickets to see them and am reliving it as I type this comment. We were struggling to get down there fighting Los Angeles and Orange County traffic on top of a driver who showed up late. AIC were opening for Van Halen on September 10 and 11, 1991 at the PacificAmphitheater in Costa Mesa, California. I can still feel the tension in that car with an arrogant driver and four 17 year olds fuming at the exponentially increasing odds of missing a concert that we paid for and had been looking foward to months earlier. We completely missed AIC and the first two or three songs into the Van Halen set. I'm still annoyed about it because we loved those two bands so much. It would have been our first time seeing those two bands. I can still remember our driver in the car on the way down there scowling "Opening bands usually suck anyways." A fatal prediction of his. I would do anything to go back and correct that series of events. 1, Find another driver. 2, Ditch school and leave that morning and just wait out the six or seven hours for the doors to open. 3, Buy tickets for both of the nights to enjoy them twice instead of just one time and refuse with my life to allow anybody or anything to impede our ability to see the entire sets of both bands including stage setup and equipment switch out, and soundcheck. Have I proven how truly serious I am about fixing missed concert regrets? Not even torture or death will change my mind.
Dude that was fucking awesome I knew it got heated on the slayer tour, but to see layne act like that is crazy, cause layne rarely gets like that he musta been really pissed
This must have been an aweful crowd. I knew that in the early days the crowds tended to give them a hard time, but I have never seen Layne get quite this aggressive at a concert in stage. The guy in the blue shirt and the woman he was yelling at must have been doing some bad stuff, wish we could see them to understand why he got so mad. Haven't seen that side of Layne since the Nazi incident, lol At any rate, I love Layne to death and i know that he usually has a good connection with the crowd. So, this I believe to be him just fighting back at their BS. If Jerry even starting going along with it during the changing if Man in the Box I have to think it was bad. Jerry is typically all business. And, after the concert Layne truly does go to the side if back stage and looks ready to find that guy and kick his ass just like he said he was gonna until management or security talked him out if it. I love Layne. I don't condone calling girls cunts, but I truly believe she must have deserved what she got. This is a great concert, it's funny, and his voice sounds really good, and high energy. Thank you for posting. I have been looking and waiting for some new "old" concert footage to be uploaded as I have watched everything at this point. If you know if any awesome accounts that might have other new things with AIC, reply with their names and I will subscribe to their channel 😊Thank you again. You rock for posting this 👌👍🤘
I am not worshipping anyone. And, I did say it was unusual for him to act like that and I don't condone anyone calling someone a cunt, Layne Staley or not. But despite that, I still thought this was a great concert. I have a right to my opinion. I left a comment. No need to take what I say out of context.
Also, this is rock and roll. Anything can and will happen. It's par for the course. Those crowds treated AIC very bad at the beginning because they didn't believe they belonged on a metal tour...so I understand them getting pissed at some point and saying F it. I am done with being taunted...end of story. It is what it is. I don't see anyone looking at anyone on here as a God. We are just hardcore AIC fans and stick up for em. And since he is gone, it's exciting when someone posts a new video.
William Aubin And of course he was a human being, we, at least I see nothing other than a human being when I see Layne. He was super down to earth and relatable thus why we respect him and stick up for him even when he's gone.
Yeah besides the skinhead incident i don' t recall him being mad at all. Clash of the Titans tour proved they were a tight act and weren't taking crap from anyone. Check "Mike Ziegler" channel, he's got a couple 1992shows
I saw AIC 3 or 4 times as opening acts during the 1988ish to 1993ish time frame, I never really got into their genius of music until much later. I had my head wrapped up in the headliner acts at that time. Great band, one of the best pure hard rock bands ever.
Thank you for sharing! I was only 7 when this happened. Makes me respect the opening bands more knowing they were the openers. You never know when you're in the presence of greatness
Just before their prime. They were so practiced and road ready just look at these guys. Not nearly celebrated enough, I feel - is Mike Start - who made a million interesting choices as a bassist, harmonizing Layne's vocals or comping Jerry's guitar, and he and Kennedy's rhythm unit was unstoppable. Also - killer hair and possibly more stage presence than any Rock Bassist (save Nikki Sixx) in the 90's era.
Thank you Mike made my heart beat harder watching and hearing him play I love his style of dance I call it Mike cave man dancing crouch down then keep jumping or spin in circles love love love love him
Thanks for posting this. I can see myself and all my buddies in the crowd right in front of Layne. Slayer took the stage right after this...then Anthrax....then Megadeth. Great show!!!
layne was real pissed off here. i wasnt born to late 1989. i wish i was born decade younger to be at this concert. sure layne was a down to earth guy. disrespectful crowd pretty funny how he changes lyrics to man box. would bin amazing to meet him in person.
I’m absolutely smitten with Layne, but at the end after he said “meet me back there and I’m gonna kick your ass,” he pulled a Howard Dean with his wwhewwww! He can get away with anything though. And he did.
Absolutely LOVE this! Layne sounded freaking amazing and he was taking zero shit that day! The lyrics he changed and the mic stand...haha! I hate the C word when used towards women, but they obviously were stirring it up. Layne was usually so chill. I do know they had to prove themselves big time on this tour and constantly had people throwing stuff at them, booing, etc. They did earn their respect by the end of the tour and the rest is history. Layne will always be the greatest singer in my book. Thanks for uploading this treasure!
I just watched a different post where some vocal coach proves from this video, Layne hits notes that are statistically almost impossible. Fucking, legend.
This hurts see I’m from Syracuse and was still there on this date. Weed sport is an awesome place for a concert. It’s about 30 min west of Syracuse. I wasn’t there cause I had no idea who AIC was. Little did I know they would become my favorite along with Rush of course.
Security in the front had no idea the GREATNESS that was performing two feet away. I would have been facing the stage the entire time. Let the fans kill each other, I would be watching Layne
one of the greatest American rock bands, I can't believe anyone would want to follow them...this was their prime, Mike Starr's punchy bass riffs in Bleed The Freak & Ain't Like That demonstrate his invaluable role in crafting their sound.
I'm guessing this was on the Ozzy No More Tours Tour. I saw them in San Antonio on that tour. Solidified them as my favorite band. Seen them many times since. If you haven't seen Alice, do it. Even with William, see them.
rock dog Agreed. I miss the original line up and Layne a lot. But, if you get a chance to go to an AIC concert with the new line up I highly suggest it. William DuVaul does a great job singing Layne's songs. He has a ton of respect for Layne and represents him well. They will never sound exactly the same as they did before because Layne can not be replaced, his voice was too unique and amazing. But their new music is great, it's just got a different sound. But, in a lot of ways the music they are making new and have made since Layne passed is still just as awesome as the music they wrote and played before he died. They band themselves and Jerry will always sound like AIC and new songs will sound like them because they have always stayed true to who they are despite great loss.
11:32 what a beautiful time in music history
Sean Kinney is so fun to watch play drums. What an underrated drummer man
Foreal man, he’s never talked about!!!! So dam good!
This is the Layne I like to remember. He was such a badass here, Layne "Don't fuck with me" Staley (not an easy audience to play for...kudos to all of the band for such a courage). RIP Layne & Mike Starr

No, you just prefer live music. Live is a different canvas than studio. Studio is cold product. Live is hot. Libe will always be more energetic, raw, and if the band is good more powerful than possible in studio .
Let's not ignore Sean drumming performance on this concert! Daaaamn, it was amazing, solid!
I agree. No one seems to notice that though. He was on fire.
He is a beast
His drumming is perfection, he is so fast and on beat, a freakin master 👌
Sean is honestly underrated. He’s great, whole band is tight as hell in this video (not like they ever aren’t)
Finishes song

I miss these days!
Layne wasn’t taking no shit that night 🤣 he went after several people in the audience all while laying down 1 of the best rock live vocal performances in history. Big balls and talent!!!
Damn layne sounds so good
He had a great voice. Saw them at the Palladium in Hollywood so many years ago and they were great.
And looks good as fuck
Always!
He is the best voice in rock history
This show is proof that even with crap audio quality you simply cannot bury a Spector NS-2 in a mix! RIP Mike Starr...you and your tone will be missed.
Layne is the boss here.
They sounded badass..they sure delivered a good show on July 4th of '91 they even look healthy and smiling..[we were only 23yrs old in July 1991]
Insanely good.
They all are

He killed every night no matter what kind of shape he was in
25:11... man of his word
That was f***ing funny 😆 he was really looking for a fight that day, and we all knew that Layne would never back down in a fight!
One of my all time biggest regrets is never seeing AIC live w/ Layne. Layne was one of a kind

I will never get tired of hearing Layne sing!! Miss you Layne, irreplaceable 🖤

I saw them around this time touring with Megadeth. Hadn't heard of them before this but they blew me away!!! Amazing.
Holy shit, he definitely busted the knob off there. that was badass.
FUCK. ME.
This vid really highlights how good Mike's basslines were
And he was also a beast on stage, super charismatic 🔥
I prefer Starr. They became like a prog rock band with Inez instead of a rocking grunge band
Jerry was jealous, he wants all eyes on him @@Gcssdvnkloiutesc
A shame the drug use got too heavy although I did enjoy Inez after.
If only Layne also avoided that fate too and kicked it early.

23:54, his voice breaks at the end of the note and he makes it even more powerful, fuck this guy has one of the most incredible voices ever.
I dont think so. It was obviously intentional
Layne totally did that intentional. Not difficult to hear :) Just notice how he streched his body while hitting the higher note.

I can't thank you enough. That's great. Thanks a LOT!
This version of Man in the Box, lmfaoooooooooooooooooo
Cmo Games and the crowd liked it
@@gsfbffxpdhhdf7043 love it!
But the scream after the solo, damn.
@@marshallartsconner3762 this is the best version of Man in the Box I've heard vocally.
How many of us sing the "Layne's Pissed Off" version of Man in the Box (even when they aren't watching this concert)
Layne was crazy to sing the end of man in the box that high. As if it wasn't high enough already!
Yep had to be Clash of the Titans tour bc they had to Duke it out with the audience a few times. Love seeing Layne like that though!
RIP Rock God
Thank you for sharing! I was only 7 when this happened. Makes me respect the opening bands more knowing they were the openers. You never know when you're in the presence of greatness
Layne is hilarious here!
Thank you Mike made my heart beat harder watching and hearing him play I love his style of dance I call it Mike cave man dancing crouch down then keep jumping or spin in circles love love love love him
AIC great band. Layne the best voice to the rock. Thank you for this document!
Vedder77 so many errors in that sentence
Grammar Nazi Not for me ;)
Jefferson Araujo Ur always pissing on Layne vids, y u watch then?
araujo probably likes metallica and only metallica.
@@huntmastergutentag557 Metallica what a pack of wankers
Great video, thank you!!!! AIC were brutal
Thanks for posting this. I can see myself and all my buddies in the crowd right in front of Layne. Slayer took the stage right after this...then Anthrax....then Megadeth. Great show!!!
I wish I knew....but I never forgot that moment. Great to see this show again.
@@meatballstore8600 I envy the HELL outta you, mate. I'd love to have had the opportunity to have gotten that close to my Idol🥰
layne was real pissed off here. i wasnt born to late 1989. i wish i was born decade younger to be at this concert. sure layne was a down to earth guy. disrespectful crowd pretty funny how he changes lyrics to man box. would bin amazing to meet him in person.
I graduated high school in 89 , lol

thanks for upload.. such a rare video to watch..
I’m absolutely smitten with Layne, but at the end after he said “meet me back there and I’m gonna kick your ass,” he pulled a Howard Dean with his wwhewwww! He can get away with anything though. And he did.
Mike Starr is a beast on bass
Oh yeah n his performance.

Equal rights if shes being one call her it
Down under the c word is used as a synonym for bro
21:26 LOL Jerry!
I just watched a different post where some vocal coach proves from this video, Layne hits notes that are statistically almost impossible. Fucking, legend.
HAHAHAHAHAHA it was too funny how Layne and Jerry dubbed over Man in the Box 🤣😂🤣😂🤣
New Paradigm Beings
Dubbed?
Layne on fire🔥
Whole band sounding tight af!
AIC
This hurts see I’m from Syracuse and was still there on this date. Weed sport is an awesome place for a concert. It’s about 30 min west of Syracuse. I wasn’t there cause I had no idea who AIC was. Little did I know they would become my favorite along with Rush of course.
Shit, looks like It was filmed last week. God bless!
God help whatever band had to follow AIC at this show. They blew anyone and everyone that went before them or after them right off the stage.
Bob Wilcox slayer followed directly after....
@@lisaneese9401 And that, ladies and gents, is how to make a proper 100% embarrassment of yourself on the internet.
slayer anthrax and magadeath but they aren't even in the same class of six funny how in 91 not everyone figured that out
@@call-me-dezz I think your comment is actually the embarrassing comment
"Can you suck my dick! So bad, ass! Bet many regretted disrespecting what would turn out to be the BEST voice of an era!!
THANKS so much for posting this. Love to see this time 90 - 01 AIC.
23:48 is the reason why Layne is the best singer of his generation
Killer song after killer song...& Layne is throwing down here! Deadly
How to steal a stage 101.
Security in the front had no idea the GREATNESS that was performing two feet away. I would have been facing the stage the entire time. Let the fans kill each other, I would be watching Layne
LOL same
Awesome upload, pretty clear vid too-TYSM! Anything w/LAYNE is gold! Miss him more everyday....
This was the clash of titans tour. They opened for Megadeth, Anthrax and Slayer. I was there and they were awesome!
I think I just found another favorite AIC concert holy shit.
Clash of the Titans - The tour that changed AiC XD
This was near the end of the tour,so these guys werent taking shit from no one by this point.
one of the greatest American rock bands, I can't believe anyone would want to follow them...this was their prime, Mike Starr's punchy bass riffs in Bleed The Freak & Ain't Like That demonstrate his invaluable role in crafting their sound.
This is my favorite recorded concert. Layne was not having it 😂❤️
Layne's Superpowers came from his sunglassess 2019
OMG FREK*** LAYNE'S VOICE DUDE
The lyrics to Man in the Box are fucking hilarious here!
11:28 lol
God damn those guys were good!
FIIIIIIIIIIIRE IN MY CRACK! Layne stop 😂😂😂 22:43
Hahaha Layne the poet
I'm guessing this was on the Ozzy No More Tours Tour. I saw them in San Antonio on that tour. Solidified them as my favorite band. Seen them many times since. If you haven't seen Alice, do it. Even with William, see them.
So awesome!! Its SICK!! Epic band. Wish this lineup was still together. They knew how to friggin ROCK!!
rock dog Agreed.
