This reminds me of Cheptegei at the world XC champs in 2017 and Jakob Ingebrigtsen at the world u20 XC champs in 2019. Just before the finish, they just were completely gassed, like all the energy was zapped out of their body

And Patrick Tiernan in the Olympic 10000 this year. He was running with the pack but couldn't keep up with the sprint of Barega and just couldn't keep it up; he fell over multiple times and although he was only a few seconds behind the leaders with a lap to go, he finished in 28:35, 43 seconds adrift of the podium finishers.

Cooper Teare said prior to the race that he was going to take it to the edge and he did...That was a blistering first two miles and then Conor Mantz took the race to a higher level.....More drama in 30 minutes of X Country than in 3 hours of NCAA Football or Basketball. And no question as to who is(are) the best Conor Mantz for the 2nd year in a row and NAU for winning 5 of the last 6 Championships... Congratulations to all that made this such an excellent competition.

keep in mind however that cooper is much much younger than mantz, in that race I’m pretty sure Mantz was probably the oldest on the field, super strong and a crazy race. He’s a best but definitely more of a shock to coopers system as he’s much younger.

It was not great viewing but so pleased to see the Cooper T. seems to have recovered well. I believe this was his last race for his Uni. so such a shame he could not have finished in style, comfort and celebrated as he would have wanted. But the majority of us runners have suffered setbacks; we have to evaluate, determine what we could have done better and reset our goals for the future. Let's hope this one race does not diminish his love for the sport and his motivation for the future. Wish him well.

This is what participation award culture gives us. Where people thing the guy who lost is more admirable then the guy who won. If you think Mantz wasn’t hurting just as bad as Teare you’re probably not familiar with cross country. He just was the strongest man out of the bunch today.

I don’t think people are discrediting Mantz is race, he did amazing and ran very well. But it’s also important to keep in mind that Mantz is MUCH MUCH older than the rest of the field. He’s basically an 7th year senior and much older than Cooper Teare. Also from an accolade point of view I would say Cooper is much more accomplished in Track and Field. Not discrediting Mantz in anyway but comparing their last 200M it’s clear that coopers body was working much harder to finish than Mantz.
