To have a positive split of only 1 second is absolutely amazing in cross country. This has to be one of the most evenly paced 10k’s ever when looking at the 5k splits.
Conner is a generational runner. I can't wait to watch him as a pro when he battles the worlds best in cross country. He never runs a poor race and is always battling for the win. By far the best NCAA Cross County runner for the past 2 years.
@@davidbaldwin3599 Its unlikely they will finish in the top 10 in the world cross country championships. I wish them good luck still. Qualifying itself is a great achievement but I wouldn't expect them to win against athletes that grew up running barefoot in the mountains and forests since birth
Hey would you ever possibly do any DII analysis? I know there aren't any big names or insane times but I'm a DII athlete and the xc nationals this year had a lot of drama in it as the top runner fainted with less than 2k to go and it was a very dramatic and interesting race. If you would every do this it would be very much appreciated by me and other DII athletes I'm sure.
@@konroh2 I was in that race😅 The crazy thing about this dude, was he was only his region champion 2 times, and the state champion once. He was like top 5 every year though.
@@Mr.Pip_ I do wish him well as a professional. I kept in contact with him a little as he's blogged, when he came back from his mission he ran a flat out 5K and could only manage 18:00, had to build up from there. I hope his drive and heart serve him well as a professional.
Props to Clinger from BYU - those 7 points with Conner's 1 made for a solid team score when the other 3 finished well back. Gotta move up some runners to under 50....
I ran against Connor when he was a freshman and I was a senior. He kicked my trash! The kids’ work ethic is insane and he’s one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet.
This race was absolutely insane. I ran cross country in the DII NAIA back in the late 70s and early 80s and definitely know what its like to hit the wall with only meters to go. Cooper Teare probably should have held back instead of trying to stay with the lead pack in the beginning. That blistering 4:22 first mile put him in oxygen debt and was most likely the beginning of the end for him with the early lactic acid build up becoming a factor the rest of the race. He is still one of the gutsiest athletes I have ever seen. I have a lot of respect for him even finishing the race when most would have given up. Connor Mantz, on the other hand, was on a whole other level. All I can say is "Wow". He's for sure the real deal. Congrats to him.
The pain that these athletes put their body through is crazy. It has to hurt during the whole race and to see Connor finish like that! Great determination and focus.
Connor Mantz is an absolute beast- He just doesn't know how to lose when the chips are down. He reminds me a lot of the legend, "Pre". Same grit and determination, slightly unorthodox running style; even looks a lot like him with that 'stache! I expect to see him in the marathon race for us in the 2024 Olympics. Great placement by Casey C. also to help BYU point total. But ASU is simply "the amateur running franchise".
I met Conner a while back when he gave a lecture at a local running shoe store. I was surprised at how short he was. My young twelve year old was there, and they were roughly the same size. So great runners come in a variety of sizes.
Nice to see Rian Wildschutt doing well on an international stage!! Used to kill it in all the local trail races. Prodigiously talented and diverse runner 🇿🇦
I run on the same high school XC team that cooper teare ran in, and our assistant coach actually was running buddies with him (apparently). Dude also had the same core teacher as I did in 6th grade, though different years obviously. I’ve seen him occasionally out and about running, and Jesus Christ the dude is quick
I would want to see these runners at European Cross country races where its not just running on some grass for 10km but through mud, forests, streams, boggy fields, and hills. The times are impressive but its like they are just running on a grass track. They need a challenging course where flat speed isn't the only factor but strength, endurance and tactics come into making the champion. It makes watching races more exciting because everything could change for any reason, a person could trip or break away up a steep hill. The end time shouldn't be a big thing as every course should be different with different features which could help certain athletes who no one really knows about to give people who may not be the fastest in flat out speed have a shot at winning.
Watched a video yesterday about Newbury Park and a video today about BYU. My high school and my college. I guess I missed the opportunity to be a better runner!

He took a 2 year break from running to serve a mission. I would say the other athletes have the advantage because they never stepped away from running for a couple of years. He had to essentially find his form again once he returned.
@@davidbaldwin3599 just because you stopped running, doesn’t mean you stop aging. It’s a lot easier to get back to form at 20 years old than at 18. Just because he went on a mission changes nothing.
