Taiwan is just a gathering place for the losers of China's civil war. After the Nationalist Party's defeat in 1949, they brought a large number of people to Taiwan and continued to resist China under the protection of the United States. The only difference is the old KMT died out in Taiwan, while the CCP barely changed. Also choosing the ROC didn't mean China today would become peaceful and democratic. There has been no evidence provided, whatsoever, that China wants to invade on the dates given. Lyle J. Goldstein, former professor at the U.S. Naval College and Chinese military expert, has explained endlessly that China has been ready to invade Taiwan for years. They don't because they don't want to. They actually tell the truth when they say that they want a peaceful reunification. All the U.S. is doing is attempting to provoke a war by forcing China to invade by arming the island and seeking to get international recognition of their independence from China.

China's invasion could very well be doomed just by the geography of Taiwan itself; it's a mountainous island. Only two places are considered viable for landings and conditions are only right for a few months out of the year. They'd see the massing forces well before the invasion begins. Plus the potential for guerilla war because of the mountains. China wants Taiwan primarily for its superconductor plants, otherwise it would be much better to maintain the status quo, and destruction of those plants in a guerilla war would ruin all of China's plans of dominating the superconductor market.
Even worse for China, they have no military experience. In their last war against Vietnam, they lost terribly. Now they wish to plan out an amphibious assault that will make D-Day look like a birthday party in comparison. Unless WW3 starts, they aint doing nothing. Taiwan is fine, and will remain fine for the next several decades.

Recipe for happiness: From the age of 12, start having the Treasure map in your hands, accessible to every human creature. The reading must be constant and the object of study, because with an average of 18 years of studying the map, the treasure will be found, and you must sell everything you have and acquire it, part of that treasure is receiving a crown, from that moment be vigilant that no one takes your crown. Stop valuing and chasing pyrite. Stop worrying so much about wanting to please your body, giving it "pleasures", which actually harm its proper functioning, and certainly negatively affect your spirit. US wants to protect the island but dehumanizing your rival and over prep Taiwan for military conflict may simply lead to a conflict no one wants (how WWI started). we saw the tragedy that is Ukraine (Russia is wrong to invade but it perceived risk and miscalculated and then thousands died).

The Kuomintang (KMT) and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) have never signed a formal peace treaty. Both parties consider themselves to be the rightful rulers of all of China, including Taiwan.
After the Chinese Civil War, which took place from 1945 to 1949, the KMT, led by Chiang Kai-shek, retreated to Taiwan while the CCP, led by Mao Zedong, established the People's Republic of China (PRC) on the mainland. Since then, both the KMT and the CCP have maintained their claims of legitimacy and sovereignty over all of China.
The KMT, as the ruling party in Taiwan, has historically held onto the idea of "One China" and considers itself the legitimate government of China. They have not formally renounced their claim to mainland China and continue to advocate for eventual reunification under their leadership.
Similarly, the CCP, as the ruling party in mainland China, also asserts its claim as the legitimate government of China, including Taiwan. The CCP considers Taiwan a part of its territory and has not ruled out the use of force to bring Taiwan under its control.
The lack of a peace treaty between the KMT and the CCP, combined with their competing claims of legitimacy, has contributed to the ongoing political tensions and complexities surrounding the issue of reunification between Taiwan and mainland China.

Taiwan was part of Japan for the 50 year before the end of WW2 and the beginning of its 70 years of self-rule, when Japan was defeated. But it wasn't China that defeated Japan, it was the USA. China couldn't even liberate itself. Consequently, it was not China, but the USA and its Western Allies that took occupying in most of the former Japanese territory, including Taiwan, Korea, Manchuria and mainland Japan. It should be obvious that it China had been the victor, there would be no Taiwan question, Korean wouldn't be independent and split in two, and Okinawa would be part of China. But that isn't how things happened, and that's because the USA decided the policies for the region, not China.

    1) In 1894, Japan invaded China and Korea, the Qing govt was defeated and signed the [Treaty of Shimonoseki] to cede Taiwan Island to Japan.
    2) During the WW2, at the Cairo Conference held in 1943, China asked the transfer of Taiwan's sovereignty back to China after the war. This content was included in the [Cairo Declaration] and later reiterated in the [Potsdam Proclamation] that it should be implemented.
    3) In 14 Aug & 2 Sept 1945, the Emperor and govt of Japan issued the [End War Edict] and [Japanese Instrument of Surrender] , Japan surrendered and accepted the [Potsdam Proclamation]. The Japanese troops in Taiwan surrendered to KMT General CKS. Taiwan re-entered the territory of the Republic of China (ROC).
    4) Soon after that China civil war broke out between KMT and CCP, the KMT was defeated and fled to Taiwan. However, due to US intervention, the CCP without strong navy at that time has no ability to unify Taiwan. The CCP then established the People's Republic of China (PRC) in 1949. The civil war continues.....
    5) In 1971, UN Resolution No. 2758 ruled that the PRC had obtained the representation rights and all legal rights originally owned by the ROC in the UN. That means the PRC is China’s only legal govt under international law, and today the PRC also become China’s only legal govt recognized by 181 countries around the world, including the USA.
"The USA recognizes the Government of the PRC as the sole legal Government of China."

Please refer to President Jimmy Carter's Speech on Relations with China.

Every talk of war comes from an American. Neocons fear the rise of China, economically and militarily. Just as the US provoked Russia into attacking Taiwan, the US would provoke a proxy war by telling its puppets in Taiwan to declare independence. But the 1st step in a proxy war is a blockade to prevent Taiwanese chips from going to the US/EUrope. This is what's currently stopping the uS from provoking a proxy war.

Taiwan is not going to war with China, it is the other way around. China wants to invade, conquer, and annex Taiwan. That is a very big and important distinction.
