  • In this video, I’ll clarify the concept of a rolled burr and how it can be observed in the reflection of a knife edge. Many viewers had questions after my previous video, so I’m here to provide a detailed demonstration and explanation. Join me as I explore the characteristics of a rolled edge, what causes it, and how to identify it visually. Whether you're a knife enthusiast or just curious about edge maintenance, this video aims to enhance your understanding. Don’t forget to like, subscribe, and leave your questions in the comments!

I tell clients that honing is aligning the edge, not removing material in any significant way, & this seems to make sense for most of them.

That's a great way to explain honing to clients. I find most are confused but the angle thats why I like the angle guides so much

You mentioned a wire burr breaking off. I thought that was part of the goal. Then you implied that the wire burr breaking off
left a less than sharp edge. Do you hone and strop until the burr or wire burr is removed, then continue to strop the remaining apex edge???

@@DanFaber-z4d yes I was just giving examples of the numerous things that happened with burrs if you were to get a wire burr while sharpening a knife you would want to remove it. But sometimes that wire burr could be so profound. The better option will be to continue grinding so you could have a very fine tiny wire burr, but you could also have a very thick wire burr . That leather would not remove. The main ones are Rolled, Feather Burrs and wire if you want to get deep into the weeds go check out the book from Dr Vadim who we all called Wootz on the Tormek forums he has a great book on it but it’s really serious over kill IMO and some things he did didn’t work for everyone but he covered the subject like nobody before sadly he passed away just a few years ago.
