Just bought the Nextbase 222X dash cam in the USA. I commute 40 miles a day on 2 freeways/motorways in the San Francisco Bay area. California drivers are BAD and there are crashes every day. Thanks for the review AND installation directions.
You said nothing about the rear facing camera. You didn't say what format it records in I would have liked to know this for the codecs. Also the price how much was it? Does it come with any software?
Ok so here's the deal NextBase 222x...For Mr. XYO the suction cup has separated half way from the winshield mount and now I can't even use the otherwise fine piece of tech. I've only had it a few months and absolutely loved it. Everything worked like a champ. Now we have a $3 suction cup holding up a $140 camera at gunpoint.
Just for others who may have struggled with the attachment methods @ 3.49 @Mad Mods shows a method of how attach the the sucker mount to the main connection mount - part of the main connection mount (the bit with the sticky stuff) can be removed and it clips into the sucker mount. Page 19 of the user manual, which I didn't think to read! Good vid.
When you plug in the rear camera while it's on it automatically reboots. It didn't in your case, which means that it's either broken or you didn't plug it in properly. My one actually got stuck in a bootloop and I luckily had warranty to replace it.
Yeah this is just a review and recommendation of the 222, and not the 222X with rear cam which the reviewer DOESN'T recommend and returned to shop. Good to see how easily the rear cam falls off though which is bad design to me, another thing that puts me off.
My rear camera is solid. Won't fall out. The problem is the restricted view with the headrest on the back seats. Barely see the cars behind you. Never get a plate recognition I don't think.
Some cars do not allow the combination to be fitted to the space ABOVE the mirror, as the suction cup cannot be made to attach to that part of the windscreen, hence. moving it sideways removes part of the view of the road.I may have to return the rear cam that I've just bought.
How do you get the rear view footage? I am not seeing the option on my setting nor am I seeing it on my play back.. I have it connected but not seeing it thanks
can the rear view camera used by using a usb extension cable also for external power do you have to connect via the extra mount you sow or is there a place to plug this into on the camera thanks
I believe you might be able to try an OTG cable. Even if the rear view effectively is not what you may like, if you are an Uber or a Lyft driver, having a view of your passengers recorded would be helpful in case you need to make a counter report against one of them EDIT: just scrolled through more of the comments. Yeah, it's pretty much what i said, although you'd have to get a USB C cable good for it. They're typically OTG types, but i believe a lot of OTG cables are easy to find on Amazon nowadays
I dont but the plug in rear view on the side really didn't work. As you want the camra up to the left of the mirror you get just the passenger seat in the way and if you try to get the camra below the mirror it's in the way and really to big with the extra camra on the side. The think it's a good idea but not for right hand drive cars and as you cant flip the camra over it just gets in the way. So no I couldn't get a good rear view shot with this camera so actually returned it to the shop. Fantastic camera just the rear view add on let it down.
if you powered it up it could record all day but the memory card would just be full of what ever was in front of you. normally you have it wired to your ignition so it just records the journeys.
I like the NextBase 222X, a decent picture. I have a problem with the sticky bit that sticks to the windshield. It fell off and I need a new sticky bit. Is there a place I can order one that you know of?
That what I wanted to see to. Like if it show a little of the side of the car. My car got hit on the side while it was parked so I wanted to see if it showed that.
the night time footage u show is not at night time its early evening just look at the sky , why not show proper night time? is it bad? do u work for the company? or are in denile ?
I wrote my question too soon. I see you have a memory card. Did you have to buy that separately, or did you just not show that it came with the camera?
Wait!!!! An SD card isn’t needed? I just watched another video for this camera, and the guy said something about having to buy a decent SD card for the camera.
I don't understand how you are able to read the number plates of moving cars because I have watched the video several times and cant even make out 1 number plate. Just about make out the number plate of the still car infront
I couldn't get the rear camera to fit and mount on my windscreen in a place it could get a rear view without being in the way. I wouldn't recommend the plug in rear camera on the side but you can get a cable to fit one on the rear screen.

Yes I've put mine slightly left quite high up on passenger side. Can see a little bit not enough. With headrest out way maybe better. Il have a look at that add on camera. Cheers man👍

Why no video of the rear view? It's the unit's USP
right?????????
If its not clicked in the side all the way it wont show. Make sure you press the rear cam in till it clicks
I came here for the rear view ☹️
You said nothing about the rear facing camera. You didn't say what format it records in I would have liked to know this for the codecs. Also the price how much was it? Does it come with any software?
Nice review, was watching and I thought the streets seemed familiar, then I realised you were driving through my hometown!
I found that pressing the rearview cam in a bit harder than expected made it stay put.

Amazon sells the suction cup base and the sticky base
Thank you from New Hampshire, USA for a very helpful video. Saved lots of time and frustration on a Saturday morning.

Ssssssaasass
Thank you for the review. With my expedition having all the bells and whistles, I think this dash cam will work great.
what about the rear camera footage
no rear cameras footage ?
How do you view the footage for the rearview camera? I tried mode and there was only front view footage
with the app or in a pc.
Does it come with the Sim card?
I put a 128gb sd card in and it works
When you plug in the rear camera while it's on it automatically reboots. It didn't in your case, which means that it's either broken or you didn't plug it in properly. My one actually got stuck in a bootloop and I luckily had warranty to replace it.
I've plugged in lots while on, sounds like your one could have been faulty.
Does it work only with a nextbase sd card or any brand will do? Nextbase recommends the U3 type sd card.
as long as its to the correct spec of card it will work.
Can the camera record video in night when the car is parking and car off???i mean the camera can charge enough battery to record all night??
Yeah this is just a review and recommendation of the 222, and not the 222X with rear cam which the reviewer DOESN'T recommend and returned to shop. Good to see how easily the rear cam falls off though which is bad design to me, another thing that puts me off.
The rear camra is rubbish on this. Falls out and is blocked by the mirror if fitted correctly. Standard camera is good without the rearview camera.
My rear camera is solid. Won't fall out. The problem is the restricted view with the headrest on the back seats. Barely see the cars behind you. Never get a plate recognition I don't think.
Just got mine and this helped a lot, thanks!

Have you got videos of the rear camera on the 222x
Can you erace when daily trips were safe on the device ? Cause my PC is currently down
Hi I’m a taxi driver would I have to set it up for every journey? Great tutorial thanks
no just the once and it saves in the money.
How do you get the rear view footage? I am not seeing the option on my setting nor am I seeing it on my play back.. I have it connected but not seeing it thanks
We all want to know, can't find a video that explains how to switch back and forth.
Why didn't you show the rear view?
And how to work it front to rear is my problem.
A great review, thank you !!
How do u connect it to the app then
Just installing mine. What is the cylinder block on the main cable?
it's a farite blocker to stop interference.
@@MADMODS thank you
Well done Boss

What button do you press to save a recording ?
How to set time if it's show rong time?
Very nice review done.
Surely it’s not limited to 32gb. That’s gonna fill up way too fast.
Thanks for the review, but do you happen to have a rearview clip?
I dont but the plug in rear view on the side really didn't work. Fantastic camera just the rear view add on let it down.
@@MADMODS This would have been useful to hear in the video. Thanks though for the heads up.
I have a question would it record all day long? Or would it just record for a split minute and turn off?
if you powered it up it could record all day but the memory card would just be full of what ever was in front of you. normally you have it wired to your ignition so it just records the journeys.
Can this be powered instead via USB?
yes it is powered by a USB scocket
I can't get mine to record. It turns on but keeps telling me there's no files to play. I've tried several times.
What is up with the other Camera
I have one do not know how it work ,Did you get it to work annoying
no I just got nextbase camra and binned it.
Where was the dual camera?
Any video explaining how I can connect this model to the app?
Móvil app
The 222x isn’t compatible
Hi,could you tell me how you go about deleting stuff on it please ?Thank you.
you can format the sd card to completely wipe it or put the sd card into a phone or pc and view and wipe the videos you don't want.
@@FINDITFIXITRESTOREITBUILDIT Ok thank you 👍
I’ve just purchased this exact model but the SD card won’t stay in place. Any tips?
Duct Tape
Does it records inside
yes with the plug in side rear camera it will capture video from inside the car.
Really good review. I'm looking for a Dash Cam for my new car.
I like the NextBase 222X, a decent picture. I have a problem with the sticky bit that sticks to the windshield. It fell off and I need a new sticky bit. Is there a place I can order one that you know of?
Just use strong double sided tape.
would had wanted to see rear camera footage, otherwise great video
Absolutely!
How do I turn on the rear camera?
just plug it in and it will display on the screen.
What if the SD is 64GB??
I wish it had night vision camera mode.
Without IR it's pointless & even with IR it wouldn't penetrate the windscreen, you'd need an external IR source.
Where you buy in UK
Can you get rid of the Nextbase logo in the top left corner?
You didn't show how the rear view camera records..
That what I wanted to see to. Like if it show a little of the side of the car. My car got hit on the side while it was parked so I wanted to see if it showed that.
He did a Half assed review. SMFH!
I can't read the number plates on this video of the cars, I think this might be a problem in the event of an accident.
the data on the card is much higher quality than the stream via WiFi to the app. so don't worry there it's very good quality footage captured.
@@MADMODS ok thanks 👍🏻
Not everyone has wifi though, and some don't have a PC
the night time footage u show is not at night time its early evening just look at the sky , why not show proper night time? is it bad? do u work for the company? or are in denile ?
no I don't work for them. it's just the time I filmed with it. night time you won't get very good footage but it's OK.
need some rear cam footage.
I wrote my question too soon. I see you have a memory card. Did you have to buy that separately, or did you just not show that it came with the camera?
most nextbase cameras come with the sd car in the box.
How to connect to phone
The menu has more options. I think you double click the menu button!
do we need cable to install rear camera ?
no it plugs into the unit but it can have a cable for extension to the rear of the vehicle.
wheres the rear footage
Hello , thanks for your video and I was waiting for rear cam to see how good is it , thanks any way
It's shit I'm taking mine back can't even see anything
you did not show the interior camera used.
Wait!!!! An SD card isn’t needed? I just watched another video for this camera, and the guy said something about having to buy a decent SD card for the camera.
I don't understand how you are able to read the number plates of moving cars because I have watched the video several times and cant even make out 1 number plate.
Just about make out the number plate of the still car infront
it's probably because I can see the original video where you are watching it 3 hand and the quality has deteriorated.
Video setting GW22 1080
Does this cam come with an SD card?
no it's sold extra
@@MADMODS thanks
I will buy one tomorrow some mother fucker hit and run my brand new vehicle I just collected from the dealer drive home car only has 8 miles on it
Rear view clip
Why can't u remote view
because the camra is not connected to a mobile network.
as said no network connection.
good review. just bought this. was wondering what the fuck that trim tool was.
I didn't get the suction mount and paid more but hey ho.
So it doesn’t tell your speed….
Why did you not show the reverse camera?? O that's right Becaaue it's absolutely shite
I couldn't get the rear camera to fit and mount on my windscreen in a place it could get a rear view without being in the way. I wouldn't recommend the plug in rear camera on the side but you can get a cable to fit one on the rear screen.
@@MADMODS what would you recommend for the rear? I'm thinking of taking the headrest off the back seat for a better view.
@@MADMODS do you mean keep the rear camera in the package but get a different cable and set it up in the back instead?
you can get a add on rear camera that fits on the rear screen with a long cable and plug that in rather than the one in this kit.
for me the duo kit if fitted to the left behind the rear view mirror all the rear camera would see was the headrest of the passenger seat and no rear view. when fitted below the mirror able to get a rear view it was very much in the middle of the windscreen and in my way of view. hope this helps.
Yes I've put mine slightly left quite high up on passenger side. Can see a little bit not enough. With headrest out way maybe better. Il have a look at that add on camera. Cheers man👍
No rear view. Poor review
This 100%🤦♂
The audio quality of yr vid is not the best
You didn’t show any real camera quality footage tho.
Rear camera view? 👎👎
pretty shit review innit mate
Useless.....move on.
The rear view camera is just really stupid, if you adjust the front 1 you loos the view of the rear 1.
What cheap SD card does this take?
none, only get good quality high speed sd cards for your dash cam cheap ones don't last.
