      Voultar are you able to repair my PS4 power supply? I see tons of replacement videos but non actually fixing the existing power supply, don’t have money to just swap it out if the broken one can be fixed , thanks for you reply(hopefully)

      iCach0 haven't ruined a console to static yet and I work on a rug floor

    • @Fridelain
      @Fridelain 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Static does not always kill the device instantly, it may introduce weaknesses that will make it fail hours, days, weeks, months or years afterwards.
      If I remember correctly, static is really an issue with dry air/surfaces, so you could use an humidifier to mitigate it. Don't know if the ISO alcohol has any effect on the static charges. Maybe it is conductive/resistive enough to help dissipate it safely.

    I work with these systems a lot..micro trace damage repair mostly these days... the only thing i would have done differently would be to dilute the lead free solder on the pads with leaded solder before wicking..it makes wicking the pads much easier and safer a newbie might damage pads trying to wick lead free solder

    I know this is an old vid, but I have a quick ? I notice in most of your vids you use a standard small conical tip on your iron. Is there a reason you don’t use a micro-tip? Or is it just a preference thing? Just wondering I had a hard time on some connections when using conical and had to try the micro, I like it better myself but was wondering what your thoughts were.

  • @Null_Experis
    @Null_Experis 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    i had a dual-nand PS3 60GB model that had a similar problem. I ended up doing the same thing, desoldering the NAND chips, popping them into the sping-clamp sockets for my EPROM programmer and using some jumper wires to use a Teensy++ 2.0 to reprogram it. Was pretty easy.
    Next I'd like to de-lid the Cell and RSX to replace the shitty thermal adhesive Sony used with something better so it doesn't get so hot so fast.

    Hey buddy if you are that good. Please tell me, what's wrong with ps3 when you start playing it and about 20 to 30 min, into playing it. It starts freezing up.I turn it off for about 30 sec, it will play for about the same amount of time some times a little longer , but will freeze up again . and then it's back and forth with me turning it off having to wait for it to reset or whatever and then turn it back on and play another 20-30 minutes again. Wow hope you got all that , thank you for any help to understand us and should I send it back to Sony to be fixed or can I do that. but I don't have nobody around where I live that can actually fix it and it be right. just asking , again thank you 😀👍

  • @TofumanFC3S

    So the thermal paste, does it need replacing on older systems like these? Or you just did it because you were in there anyways?

    • @kylemorse3472
      @kylemorse3472 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      TofumanFC3S EDIT: after separating the heat sync and processor, the thermal paste in between would not be as efficient at transferring heat between the two components if you reassembled the system as is. Properly applying new thermal paste would ensure proper cooling so removing the old thermal paste from both components is the way to go.

    • @gmcnewlook
      @gmcnewlook 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      TofumanFC3S it wouldn’t hurt to put thermal paste on a ps3

    • @Voultar

      All thermal paste should be removed and replaced.

    • @TofumanFC3S
      @TofumanFC3S 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the answers guys, but yeah what I meant was wether it needs replacing to maintain the console in good working condition, or mainly when you need to be in there but otherwise it’s fine? If it needs to be periodically replaced regardless, then after how many years and starting from what generation consoles?

    • @kylemorse3472
      @kylemorse3472 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      TofumanFC3S Consulting the manufacturer on a per product basis would be the only way to get a definitive answer when it comes to thermal compound. For consoles I would say that replacing the compound is only required if/when see signs that the system is not cooling properly such as high fan RPM, lock ups/freezing or, as in this case, you have separated the heat sync from the processor. Outside of that you would need a means of checking operating temperatures while the system is under heavy load. We'll find out as these systems age I suppose.

    Any ideas about an original 60gb release model PS3 that’s never worked basically since the first day I even had it? Any PS3 game would freeze... some faster than others but I’ve never had a situation with any PS3 game where it didn’t eventually have to be hard reset because it would totally lock up. Ps1/ps2 games worked just fine and I used it as my main blu-ray machine for a solid 10+ years… but most PS3 games were straight up unplayable for more than a few minutes. Anyone I’ve ever shown the console to has been totally stumped.
