GO-GO music, and the renaissance of the black experience in DC (70's - 80's) are responsible for this! "Call & Response" is distinctly an African influenced nuance...we were experiencing cultural and social power, and had the freedom to express it! Definitely a divine expression...unity of performers, participants, and the party! We had a lot to celebrate!
Some credit has to go to the crowd too! I love this record. I would always try to picture what people in the DMV were doing at those parties. I wanted to go to one so bad. But I was in 8th grade in Atlanta lol.
Takes me so back, forgot...forgot how damn crankin' Trouble was....Chuck became so much more legendary in his later years, he sort of eclipsed, innocently, the work of this band. Forgot how much faster the tempo was for earlier go-go...how much...better it was than today's scream-a-thon , monotonous go-go.
